Chapter 39 Lily Will Never Join Your Team
Dennis slouched in his chair, his eyes half-closed.
"I got no clue," He mumbled.
"Are you sure you didn't teach her on the sly?"
"She said she picked it up herself."
Eric was floored. "No way, can someone actually learn that? Ever since you got famous for your twelve-hit combo, no one's been able to nail it!"
Anyone who played Gunner knew how tough King's twelve-hit combo was to master!
It took not just talent but serious smarts.
Unless King himself taught it, which rarely happened.
So naturally, no one learned it.
Lily was the first!
The gaming community is buzzing about Lily's connection to King.
Dennis drummed his long fingers on the table. "But she's sharp and definitely talented."
She would go even further than he.
After school, Lily got to the school gate where the driver was waiting by the car.
She glanced back towards the nurse's office before ducking into the car.
Back at the Roberts Mansion, she looked around, feeling a bit out of place.
In her past life, she cherished this place.
But now, it felt strange.
Lily walked into the hall, and Michael stood up. "You're back! Let's eat. I had the kitchen make your favorite dishes."
"I'll be eating in my room from now on."
Lily said this and headed straight upstairs.
Michael looked at Barry. "Get a meal ready and take it up to her."
Barry looked annoyed. "Mr. Roberts, it's obvious that Ms. Roberts doesn't get along with Miss Scott. If this gets out, people might think Ms. Roberts doesn't want to dine with Miss Scott."
Sophie quickly jumped in, "Barry, don't say that. Lily probably just wants to save time by eating in her room."
"Miss Scott, you're too kind."
Michael frowned. "Alright, if she doesn't want to come out to eat, so be it. As long as we keep quiet, who will know what's happening in the Roberts family?"
Barry finally shut up, though he wasn't happy about it.
Sophie noticed Michael's change in demeanor and felt even more nervous.
She couldn't afford to lose their favor.
Sophie said, "Michael, I tried making a medicinal dish today. Please try it. It won't be as good as Lily's, but I'll keep trying."
Michael softened when he saw the dish. "You don't have to do this."
"No, Michael, your stomach isn't well; it needs proper care. Until Lily calms down, I'll take care of you."
Sophie was still sick, her face pale.
Michael smiled appreciatively. "It's the thought that counts."
He tasted the dish; it was nowhere near Lily's cooking.
But he ate some out of respect for Sophie.
He missed Lily's medicinal dishes, feeling a void inside.
Upstairs in her bedroom.
Lily walked in and noticed things had been moved.
It made her uncomfortable, but she remembered she'd be moving out soon, so she didn't dwell on it.
"Ms. Roberts, your dinner is here."
Barry came over with the dinner tray but couldn't help speaking up. "Ms. Roberts, if I may, why not eat with everyone since you're home? If this gets out, people might think you're avoiding Miss Scott."
Lily looked at Barry, annoyed.
Barry had always sided with Sophie.
He even treated Sophie like his own daughter.
In her past life, Sophie manipulated the Roberts family with Barry's help, leading to Lily's repeated misfortunes.
Lily knocked the tray out of Barry's hands, her eyes icy cold.
"Know your place. You're just a butler; it's not your job to lecture me."
Barry's face reddened with anger. "Ms. Roberts, I may be a servant, but I have the right to speak the truth!"
"Why should I care?"
Returning to the Roberts family had drained Lily's patience.
She used to think she could just stay detached and not get involved.
But some people just push their luck!
Like Barry!
"Lily, what's going on?"
Michael rushed upstairs after hearing from the servants and saw the spilled food. "Is the food not to your liking?"
Barry looked tearful. "Mr. Roberts, I was just advising Ms. Roberts not to eat alone in her room to avoid gossip. But she knocked over the food and said I'm just a servant with no right to speak."
Michael frowned. "Barry, you really don't have the right to lecture her."
Barry was stunned; he didn't expect Michael to side with Lily!
Sophie quickly stood by Barry. "Michael, Barry meant well. He's been with the Roberts family for years, loyal like my father, even if he's just a servant."
Michael's expression softened. "That's not what I meant."
"Everyone out!"
Lily didn't want to see them.
Michael spoke up. "I'll have someone clean up and bring another meal."
He turned to leave the room.
He told Barry, "From now on, show Lily more respect. Don't say things you shouldn't."
Michael realized that even Barry dared to lecture Lily.
Clearly, they'd neglected Lily too much over the years.
The servants had followed suit.
It was his fault as her brother.
Sophie watched Michael's back, feeling uneasy. Michael had changed.
In the past, Michael would have sided with Barry.
She needed to stop this.
After Lily's outburst, the servants quickly cleaned up and brought another dinner.
Finally, no one lectured her.
After finishing her homework, she opened her social media app, hoping to invite Dennis to play a game.
She saw a friend request notification from Austin.
Lily glanced at it and clicked ignore, not accepting the request.
She didn't want to hear his lectures or his apologies!
She messaged Dennis: [Dr. Gonzalez, want to team up for a dungeon run?]
While waiting for a response, she opened her computer.
She saw the game news: [Bubble Buddies Team invites King's apprentice to join, Titan Team enraged!]
Curious, she clicked to read more.
Bubble Buddies Team's captain Mark publicly invited her to join the team.
Austin publicly rejected the offer, his attitude terrible: [Lily will never join your team!]
Lily was surprised. Why did Bubble Buddies Team's captain, Mark, invite her to join his team?
Didn't Mark know she was Austin's sister?
She saw Dennis's online notification and quickly invited him to join the team.
TurnBackTime: [? Who are you?]
Lily replied: [Dr. Gonzalez, is that you?]
"Oh my god, Dennis is playing games with a girl!" Mark was so shocked he nearly fell off his chair!
