Chapter 27 She Doesn't Care
Lily remembered that the handsome guy was Ethan Murphy, the new transfer student from Empire City.
Ethan came from a wealthy family in Empire City. Word was, he got into some trouble at his old school and was sent here to lay low.
He had a flashy style, driving luxury cars, wearing designer clothes, and he loved playing video games.
In her previous life, Sophie had taken her place and won the championship, so Ethan pursued Sophie, and they ended up together.
Lily smiled and casually shoved the love letter into her desk without even opening it.
She didn't mention anything about exchanging contact information either.
Sophie couldn't help but feel jealous. "Lily, why didn't you open it and take a look?"
"It's not like it's my first one," Lily replied.
The last time she got a love letter was in elementary school, before her parents' accident and before Sophie entered her life.
Sophie felt a bit uncomfortable.
What was there to be so proud of?
Sophie's eyes were filled with jealousy.
Why had Lily changed so much all of a sudden?
Was she really trying to steal Ethan?
After school, Lily packed her bag and left immediately.
Sophie lingered for a while, then went to Lily's desk and took all the love letters.
Lily headed straight to the nurse's office.
She wanted to surprise Dennis, but he wasn't there.
She took out her phone and sent him a message: [I got my results back, top 1% in the school! I might have a shot at Quest University!]
She was thrilled!
Lily wanted to share this happiness with him first.
After sending the message, she eagerly awaited Dennis's reply.
"Lily, I heard you did really well this time. Congrats."
Lily saw Michael standing in front of her, and her smile faded. "It was alright."
Michael handed her a gift box. "To celebrate your great performance, I picked this out for you. Didn't you say you liked this brand of jewelry?"
Lily glanced at the jade pendant inside the box.
Was this to make up for the one that had been given away?
Just then, Sophie walked over and saw the jade pendant, her expression almost faltering.
Sophie said in a jealous tone, "What a beautiful jade pendant, Lily. You should put it on and show Michael!"
Lily barely raised an eyebrow. "I don't like it."
Michael looked a bit uncomfortable. "If you don't like it, I'll exchange it. What kind do you prefer?"
After Lily refused the jade pendant, Michael went and bought a new one.
Surely this would be enough?
Lily could see from Michael's actions that he wanted to make amends.
But the hurt she had suffered couldn't be erased with just a piece of jewelry.
Sophie noticed Michael's change in attitude and that he was actively trying to smooth things over with Lily.
This wasn't what she had expected at all.
Sophie quickly said, "Lily, Michael doesn't usually buy gifts for girls. How would he know what kind of jewelry girls like? You have no idea how much I envy you!"
Lily looked over, a bit impatient. "Then why don't you try being in the top 1% of the school?"
'Stop whining and pretending to be weak!' She thought.
Sophie's eyes instantly reddened. "I didn't do well this time. If it weren't for the whole Seraphine situation, I wouldn't have done so poorly."
Michael's expression was awkward. "I know, it's not your fault. Get in the car; I'll take you guys out for a celebratory dinner."
Michael quickly tried to change the subject, feeling a headache coming on.
Sophie's expression froze. She had done poorly, so what was there to celebrate?
It was clearly a celebration for Lily.
She felt a bit annoyed. "Lily, how did you improve so much? Do you have any tips or shortcuts?"
Lily's expression remained neutral. "The shortcut is to focus on studying instead of playing games."
Sophie's eyes filled with tears. "But Lily, you also received so many love letters."
Michael immediately asked, "What's going on?"
Sophie replied, "Lily is really popular at school now. Even students from other schools are asking about her and trying to get her contact information."
Michael frowned, thinking of Dennis. "Lily, you're young. The most important thing is to focus on your studies and not get distracted by other things."
Lily leaned back in the car seat, replying lazily.
She wasn't really interested in those things anyway.
Sophie noticed that Michael didn't get angry and felt a bit uneasy.
Michael glanced back at her. "Sophie, just do your best next time. The SATs are coming up, and you won't have any distractions."
Sophie felt frustrated. Her grades had dropped because of the team issues, and the Roberts family didn't even think to compensate her a bit?
Last time, they even took back the jade pendant they had given her! How infuriating!
Michael's attitude towards Lily had already started to change. She needed to do something to stop it!
The car arrived at an upscale restaurant.
Lily got out, feeling even less enthusiastic. She'd rather go home and study than deal with Sophie and Michael.
Sophie was thrilled to see the restaurant. "Wow, this place! Michael, you're so biased. I asked you to bring me here before, but you never agreed."
Lily glanced at the restaurant.
In her previous life, this place was very famous and required a membership.
Despite that, many wealthy people took pride in having a membership here. It must have just opened recently.
Michael replied helplessly, "I was really busy before, but I brought you here today, didn't I?"
"Michael, I'm just lucky to be here because of Lily. But I'm satisfied."
Sophie secretly took a few pictures with her phone, planning to post them later to show off.
Michael glanced at Lily, noticing she was calm and not as excited as Sophie.
As they waited for the elevator inside the restaurant, Lily suddenly saw a familiar figure on the second floor.
Her eyes paused. It looked like Dennis!
Lily thought she might be mistaken, but the profile really looked like Dennis!
Dennis was with a beautiful woman, who had blonde hair and long legs.
Lily quickly looked away. Her heart was racing.
She had just sent him a message, but hadn't received a reply. Was he on a date?
Lily's feelings became complicated.
Dennis was so handsome and had a good job; it was normal for him to be pursued.
But she had asked him if he had a girlfriend, and he said no.
Had things changed so quickly?
Lily walked into the private room, distracted.
She checked her phone but hadn't received a reply from Dennis.
Was he too busy to reply?
"Lily, what are you daydreaming about? David is calling on video. Come here, David is usually very busy."
Lily snapped out of it and saw Michael holding his phone, the video call already connected.
She saw David on the other side, his stern features giving off an intimidating aura.
She walked over quietly. "David."
Lily just called his name and said nothing more.
The atmosphere became a bit awkward.
In the past, whenever she saw David, she would actively try to lighten the mood, playing the role of the perfect, obedient girl.
But in her previous life, David had personally kicked her out of the Roberts family and cut off her financial support.
So now, she wasn't interested in sucking up to him.
David frowned. "Lily, I know your grades have improved a lot recently, but don't get cocky and throw a tantrum. Sophie's grades have dropped significantly. You need to help her more; we're family after all."
Lily scoffed. His words were no different from Michael's.
She answered impatiently, "Michael hired a tutor. She doesn't need me."
"Lily, what kind of attitude is that? I'm not asking you, I'm telling you to help Sophie improve her grades! Do you understand?"
As the head of the family, David had always been strict with his siblings; his word was law.
He had heard that Lily had changed a lot recently and was distancing herself from the family out of spite.
Lily slowly raised her head to look at David in the video. "I refuse."
She wasn't willing!
David immediately got angry. "Say that again!"
