Chapter 219: Sophie, How Long Do You Plan to Keep Pretending
Michael smiled bitterly, "She was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment."
David's voice suddenly dropped, and he looked a bit uncomfortable. "What, she got hurt?"
"David, you know Peter's temper. If he hit her, how could Lily not get hurt?"
Michael was angry, "David, from the beginning until now, you haven't shown any concern for Lily's condition. She's our little sister, too!"
Besides, the livestream showed that Peter was the one who hit first.
David immediately explained, "But Lily can handle herself pretty well. When those two fight, who knows who'd win."
Sophie spoke up, "David, Lily only has minor injuries, but Peter's seriously hurt. His face is badly messed up. It'll be really hard to fix. What's he going to do in the future?"
"Disfigured?"
David never imagined it would be that bad.
After all, in the entertainment industry, everyone relies on their looks. If his face is ruined, his career is basically over.
Only then did David move closer to the unconscious Peter. When he saw the injuries on his face, he fell silent.
He looked at Michael furiously, "Didn't you see the injuries on Peter's face? Why are you still taking Lily's side?"
"David, I saw his injuries, but this definitely has nothing to do with Lily."
"The livestream was such a big deal; how could it have nothing to do with Lily?"
Michael replied somewhat helplessly, "But Peter started this whole thing himself, didn't he?"
When Michael got worked up, he couldn't help coughing.
David was furious, but didn't dare keep arguing with Michael. Now his brothers had all ended up like this, and it was all related to Lily.
At that moment, a police officer walked in, "Is Peter still not awake? We need to take his statement later."
David frowned, "Peter is innocent. The livestream was deliberately arranged by Lily to destroy Peter."
"Sir, we'll investigate the facts ourselves."
"Can't you see how badly Peter is injured? Lily only has minor scratches. Can't you tell who suffered more?" David couldn't contain his anger.
"According to our information, Peter got injured when he fell into a construction site pit while running away. It has nothing to do with the victim, Lily."
After the police finished speaking, David said in disbelief, "It really has nothing to do with Lily?"
But that's not what Sophie told him.
David instinctively looked at Sophie, and she quickly explained, "David, it was pitch dark at the time. I didn't notice how Peter got hurt like this."
Michael snorted coldly, "David, Sophie lies all the time. You believe her without even asking, but you won't believe our little sister Lily is innocent. How can you face Mom and Dad?"
"How am I not facing them? When the family had financial problems, I was the one who supported all of you." David was getting defensive.
Sophie explained from the side, "Michael, I wasn't at the scene either. When I found out the police had arrived, that's when I learned what had happened. Peter was carried out looking like that, so I mistakenly thought it was related to Lily."
But Michael kept pressing, "If you didn't see anything, why did you tell David misleading things that made him think Lily was responsible for what happened to Peter?"
Sophie backed away nervously, "I didn't."
"Sophie, every time there's a conflict like this, you deliberately twist the truth and smear Lily. The Roberts family siblings are turning against each other - you've been stirring the pot. We never should have brought you into the Roberts family!" Michael got angrier as he spoke.
David immediately stepped in front of Sophie, "Michael, that's going too far. Sophie's father died for Mom and Dad. We have an obligation to raise her."
"Right, so I used to treat Sophie well too, but I never thought she'd turn out to be so ungrateful!"
Michael really regretted letting the Sophie in.
He never should have agreed to let David bring Sophie back to the Roberts family.
Sophie hid behind David, saying pitifully, "David, I know Michael doesn't like me. I should just leave so I don't make Michael angry by staying here."
Sophie saw the police coming and felt guilty, wanting to leave quickly.
But the police looked at Sophie, "You can't leave yet. You said earlier you were injured and needed to go to the hospital for examination, but you haven't given your statement yet."
Sophie's face looked unpleasant, "I... I've said everything I need to say. I don't know anything."
"But the victim, Lily, said you deliberately provoked Peter and made him angry enough to hit her."
"I didn't do that. Lily has always had a problem with me, so she'll definitely think this has something to do with me, but I don't blame her. Still, you can't just accuse people randomly."
Sophie cried to David, "David, you have to believe me."
David nodded, "Of course, I believe you, but you don't need to be afraid. Just cooperate with the investigation. If you didn't do it, you didn't do it."
Sophie's expression froze for a moment. She was worried they'd find something.
She didn't want to cooperate with the investigation.
Michael said to the police, "Did Lily mention any evidence?"
"Yes, she said there's a video recording of her talking, which should be on Sophie's phone, so we need to check her phone."
Sophie backed away several steps in fear, "what recording."
The police looked at her, "Take out your phone so we can check it."
Michael stepped forward and snatched Sophie's phone, unlocked it directly, and handed it to the police.
But Sophie lowered her eyes and smiled coldly.
After the lesson from the surveillance video last time, she'd been very careful now and would never leave such important evidence on her phone.
After showing the recorded video to Peter, she deleted it right away.
Michael looked at Sophie, "Will you admit it yourself, or wait for the police to find out?"
Sophie kept her head down, "I never did such a thing. How can I admit to it?"
Soon the police finished checking the photo album and returned the phone to Sophie, "We indeed didn't find the video Lily mentioned."
David looked at Michael, "See, I told you Sophie isn't that kind of person. You're just biased against her."
Sophie immediately felt relieved, "David, don't blame Michael. He was just too anxious."
"Sophie, stop acting so innocent. Don't think you'll get away with it just because you deleted the video in advance. When Peter wakes up, we'll ask him and find out the truth. Do you think you can cover it up?"
Michael was furious.
No matter what he said, David wouldn't believe him and thought Sophie was innocent.
At that moment, Peter woke up.
Peter looked around, "It hurts so much. Get me a mirror."
Sophie rushed over first, "Peter, you're finally awake. You scared me to death. David and Michael were both so worried about you."
Peter propped himself up, acting like a madman, "I want a mirror. Didn't you hear me?"
His face couldn't be ruined.
Absolutely not!
Sophie said through tears, "Peter, the doctor said your face can be repaired. Don't be angry, and don't blame Lily."
"Where's Lily? Where is she? I'm going to kill her!" Peter shouted.
