Chapter 199: How Did Lily Become So Powerful?
Lily nearly laughed when she heard Peter’s familiar tone.
How could they be so confident that they still had control over her life?
Lily glanced up at him. "Who are you?"
"I'm your brother. Have you forgotten so quickly how I used to teach you?" Seeing Lily's rebellious attitude, Peter couldn't suppress the anger rising in his heart. "No wonder the family's been a mess lately. Lily, look at what you've done!"
David's company had firewall problems, Michael's company lost half his fortune in a failed bid, and Austin was detained for investigation.
All of this was related to Lily.
Lily laughed lightly. "None of this has anything to do with me."
"Don't tell me it has nothing to do with you. Didn't you mess with David's company firewall?"
"David's company was attacked by hackers, and the system crashed. He came begging me to help fix it."
Peter's expression froze. Was that what happened? Why was it different from what Sophie said?
As soon as he got back today, Sophie told him about all this. He came straight to the party from the airport just to confront Lily.
Seeing this, Sophie quickly explained, "Peter, I was talking about how Lily deliberately attacked David's company system before, in order to pressure. Now Lily's really something—even David has to beg her for help."
After hearing the explanation, Peter looked at Lily again. He never realized before how capable Lily was.
But seeing Lily's cold expression made him angry. "David worked so hard to build his company. As a member of the Roberts family, you should help David on your own. How dare you make David beg you?"
Sophie quickly added, "I heard she even charged David two million dollars."
Peter got even angrier. "Lily, do you have no conscience? How dare you charge David so much money?"
Lily rolled her eyes. "What else? I don't help people for free."
"Lily, in just a few months, how did you become like this?" Peter was furious. He stepped forward and grabbed Lily's wrist. "Come with me. Go to the hospital to see Michael and apologize."
Lily pushed Peter away without much effort.
Peter stumbled and almost fell. He looked at Lily in disbelief. When did she get so strong?
Lily wiped her hand with disgust. "Don't touch me."
"Lily, Michael's so sick in the hospital, he almost died because of you. Won't you even go see him?"
"I didn't tell him to hurt himself. Don't try to make me feel guilty." Lily knew very well that Michael hurt himself to force her to give in.
Back then, she really almost thought she was in the wrong, almost softened.
Thankfully, Dennis was by her side and helped her stay calm.
Michael really knew how to manipulate her.
In the past, whenever she had conflicts with Sophie, Michael always liked to smooth things over, downplaying serious issues and dismissing minor ones.
But every time, she was the one who got hurt.
Including all the grievances she suffered before her SAT - in Michael's eyes, they were all small matters that could be resolved with an apology.
Peter's eyes turned red with anger. "Lily, you're really ungrateful. I'm asking you one last time—are you coming to the hospital with me or not?"
"No."
"If you don't go, I'll never forgive you! I won't talk to you anymore either."
Peter looked at Lily angrily. After all, Lily used to be the most afraid of him being angry and ignoring her.
Lily laughed. "That sounds perfect. Then please keep your word."
She turned and walked away.
Peter clenched his fists angrily. "Lily, don't regret this."
Seeing how angry Peter was, Sophie quickly comforted him. "Peter, don't be angry. Lily's still throwing a tantrum."
"She's been throwing a tantrum for so long now. Isn't that enough? How much more should everyone accommodate her?"
Peter didn't expect so many things to happen while he was away.
Lily was getting more and more unreasonable.
Sophie sighed. "Peter, it's actually all my fault. Lily doesn't like me."
"This isn't your fault."
"But Lily wants to sign a severance agreement with the family. Michael and Austin are both softening, especially Michael. He doesn't like me now and thinks it's because I'm staying with the Roberts family that Lily's throwing a fit and running away from home."
Sophie's voice carried a hint of grievance.
Peter felt a bit soft-hearted at the sight of this. "Don't blame Michael. He's always spoiled Lily. But don't worry, as long as I'm here, I definitely won't let you be wronged."
"Peter, I'll listen to you." Sophie nodded obediently. "Peter, I want to develop my own career now. I want to try the entertainment industry. After all, I'm an adult now. I shouldn't keep relying on the Roberts family. I want to earn money and support myself, too."
"Okay, I'll arrange everything for you. I guarantee I'll make you a top actress."
"Really, Peter? I have a friend, Samantha. She really likes your acting. Can I get your autograph and a photo with you for her?"
"Of course."
"Then let's go over there. But what about Lily—are you going to keep trying to convince her?"
Peter's expression turned cold. "No need."
Every time Lily did something wrong, as long as he gave her the cold shoulder for a while, she would realize her mistake.
This time, he would give Lily the cold shoulder and teach her a lesson.
Lily walked to the food area and ate something.
Bruce came over. "Are you okay? Why are all your brothers like this? You're their real sister!"
Bruce was furious just watching from the side.
Lily showed a mocking expression. "They've always been like this."
"No wonder you wanted to cut ties with the Roberts family before. If it were me, I'd just blow them all up with a bomb."
So infuriating.
Not only did they not treat Lily as their real sister, but they also didn't even treat her as a person.
Lily smiled and changed the subject. "All the team's sponsors have pulled out. I need to find new sponsors. Do you know anyone who could help introduce me?"
"No problem, come with me."
Lily followed Bruce to another area where quite a few people were gathered, but dressed in suits and ties, clearly looking like business professionals.
Bruce went over and exchanged pleasantries. "Let me introduce everyone—this is Lily Roberts, captain of Empire Team. You should all be familiar with her name."
After Lily greeted everyone, she briefly explained Empire Team's current situation and that they would compete next year.
Finally, she mentioned the sponsorship for Empire Team's base.
One company representative said, "Everyone's still looking forward to what ranking Empire Team can achieve next year. Sponsorship isn't a problem - we can talk about it later."
"Our company can sponsor too. Here's my business card. Let's stay in touch."
Lily breathed a small sigh of relief. It seemed the sponsorship issue was resolved.
"If you want to sponsor the Empire Team, you'd better think carefully. She doesn't even want sponsorship from the Harper family, let alone from you."
Samantha walked over in a haute couture gown, with Sophie and Peter following beside her.
Sophie stood quietly to the side, watching the drama unfold. She would never let Lily get what she wanted.
Lily's expression turned cold. "Samantha, do you want me to expose the Harper family's money laundering and let everyone see the truth?"
Lily directly brought up the Harper family's money laundering.
Since Samantha came looking for trouble, she didn't need to be polite.
Peter frowned and scolded Lily. "Watch your words. Is the Harper family someone you can afford to offend? Apologize to Ms. Harper right now. Do you hear me?"
Lily sneered. "Why should I listen to you?"
Peter raised his voice. "Lily, don't make me teach you a lesson! Apologize now!"
