Chapter 185: Who Let You Be My Biological Sister?
Lily stared at his message for a long while, unable to snap out of it.
Zoey came out after her shower. "Lily, what are you spacing out about?"
"What do you think it means when a guy tells you he doesn't want to talk about money—only feelings?"
Zoey's face lit up with gossip. "There are two possibilities."
"Tell me."
"First possibility, he likes you and is hinting at it."
Lily shook her head. "Impossible."
"Then it's the second possibility - he wants to sleep with you but doesn't want to spend money."
Lily didn't know whether to laugh or cry. That was even more impossible.
She glanced at her phone and just replied with a string of ellipses.
Dennis glanced at her message, then turned to Cameron, who was driving, "Send another batch of that ointment from last time."
Cameron nodded.
He went straight to the usual hangout spot and sat down, pinching the bridge of his nose.
Eric walked over. "Dennis hurt his arm and put up a fortress of band-aids around it, and they're fucking pink."
The others all crowded around. "They really are pink."
Someone tried to peel off a Band-Aid, but Dennis slapped his hand away. "Don't touch it."
"Your band-aids are peeling at the edges and you still won't let us touch them?"
"You're treating them like treasure. Who put them on? Must be a girl."
"Using pink band-aids, probably pretty young. Is she even legal?"
Dennis frowned. "Get out of here. Don't ask."
Eric shooed away the onlookers and sat down next to Dennis. "Lily put them on, right?"
Dennis didn't deny it.
Eric continued, "Why did you suddenly message me to freeze Ethan’s card and stop him from going to The Velvet Vine?"
"Teach him a lesson!" Remembering how Sophie had been showing off all day, Dennis couldn’t help but stand up for Lily.
He quickly told Eric what had happened, and Eric clicked his tongue. "That disgusting Sophie just won't leave us alone. Don't worry, this will be easy to handle. My aunt has always hated people like her, especially ones from poor backgrounds."
Dennis couldn't help drinking some red wine. "There's something else."
"What?"
"Nothing."
Dennis still couldn't bring himself to say it out loud. He remembered Lily standing with Mark—they were both young and the same age.
What's more, Lily had taken the initiative to ask about Mark.
He just felt the red wine in his mouth had become much more bitter.
Lily received the ointment delivered by courier the next day.
This time, there was quite a lot.
Lily took a photo, sent it to him, and then transferred money to him.
After doing all this, she went to class.
Zoey whispered, "Is he your boyfriend? Or someone pursuing you?"
"Neither, just a friend." Lily changed the subject after answering. "There's a gaming circle party this weekend. A lot of people in the industry will be there. Are you going?"
"Sure, I'd like to check it out too."
"Then let's go together."
Lily still needed to find sponsors at the party.
Before long, Lily's phone buzzed. She immediately grabbed it to look, thinking it was Dennis's reply.
It wasn't.
Bruce messaged her: “Don't forget about the dinner party this weekend.“
“I know.“
After she replied, she looked at her chat with Dennis - he still hadn't responded.
She also saw her chat with Mark - no reply there either.
Mark must have misunderstood, too.
She thought about it and messaged Mark: “Did you misunderstand what I said before? I wasn't trying to find out your weakness to threaten you to drop out of the competition. I didn't mean that.“
After Lily sent the message, she felt her own explanation was a bit weak.
Dennis said Mark's family didn't approve of him playing games.
Could it be that in her past life, Mark dropped out because of his family, not for the reasons she had thought?
Mark had just woken up and saw Lily's message. His sleepiness vanished instantly.
He sat up and looked at Lily's message, immediately feeling relieved.
He knew it—Lily wouldn't have any intention to harm him.
Mark happily replied: “Then I'm relieved.“
Lily saw Mark's reply and felt much more at ease: “Are you going to the party this weekend?“
Mark thought to himself: 'Of course I'm going!
He had to be there to protect Lily. After all, Dennis wouldn't dare show his face because of his status.
Haha, now it was his turn to shine.
He'd let Dennis know how important his smart, sensible brother was, and make Dennis regret saying he was a brother picked up from the trash!'
"Mark! Why aren't you up yet? Your grandmother is waiting to have breakfast with you!" Celeste burst into the bedroom and saw Mark's room in complete chaos. Her temples throbbed with anger.
"Mom, how can you just barge into my bedroom? I have privacy too."
"What privacy do you have? Get up now!"
Celeste looked at Mark in front of her. "Dennis sent you back, didn't he? So I wouldn't investigate the girl he's protecting."
"Mom, can't you give Dennis some privacy, too?"
"I'm doing this for his own good."
Mark picked his nose. "You're a stepmother - why do you care so much?"
Celeste's blood pressure spiked when she heard this. "Say that again?"
"Dennis can be with whoever he wants. That's his freedom!"
"Mark, you stop right there!"
Celeste grabbed something and threw it at Mark.
Mark ran through the villa hallway in his boxers, yelling at the top of his lungs, "Grandma, help! My stepmother is trying to abuse her own son!"
Celeste chased him the whole way but couldn't catch him. She was panting from exhaustion. "Even if I am a stepmother, I'm going to arrange the best marriage for him to shut up those gossipy women!"
She was a stepmother, yes. But Dennis was also a child she had raised herself.
She was so angry.
Why couldn't Mark be even half as obedient as Dennis?
If Dennis hadn't been so excellent and obedient as a child, she wouldn't have thought about having another child.
She thought that since they were both Gonzalez family children, they couldn't be that different.
Instead, she gave birth to a little devil who existed just to anger her. She regretted it so much!
After successfully escaping, Mark snuck back to his room, got dressed, and messaged Lily: “The party isn't that interesting, but if you're going, I'm going too.“
He was such a qualified, upright, and generous brother!
After seeing Mark's reply, Lily figured she could meet with him then and clear things up, so he wouldn't really misunderstand.
After class, Lily received a message from Delbert, the person in charge at Maple Leaf Corporation: “We're going to court this afternoon for pre-trial mediation. The lawyer will be there too. Are you free to come this afternoon?“
“I don't have class this afternoon. I'll head straight to the courthouse.“
As a key figure, Lily certainly couldn't miss this.
After telling Zoey, she took a cab straight to the courthouse.
The people from Maple Leaf Corporation had already arrived. Delbert looked at her. "Lily, do you know who our lawyer is?"
"No, hasn't our lawyer arrived yet?"
"Not yet, but the Roberts family's lawyer is already here. Pretty famous too. I'm afraid this case won't be easy."
Lily frowned, then heard David's voice. "What, you still haven't found a suitable lawyer? Need me to recommend one?"
She looked up to see David walking over with a group of people, Austin following beside him, looking quite haggard.
David looked down at Lily condescendingly. "It's not too late to admit defeat now. After all, you're my little sister—I'll forgive you."
