Chapter 175 What is the Name of the Most Powerful Heir in Empire City?
Lily saw the deep look in his eyes, and her breath caught.
Her eyelashes trembled. "We're just friends."
Wasn't that what he used to say?
They were just friends.
He only saw her as a little sister.
Seeing her attitude, Dennis clenched his jaw and stood up. "Let's go."
He walked ahead, his handsome features showing no expression.
Lily followed behind, keeping a step's distance between them.
Eric and Mark walked at the back. Mark looked anxious and really wanted to go up and say something, but Eric held him back.
Eric lowered his voice. "Mark, can you please stop making trouble!"
Mark was like a loose cannon - impossible to control.
In this situation, better not to go up there and make things worse.
Mark was very curious. "They're really not together? It's been months, and Dennis still hasn't won Lily over? That's so lame!"
"Stop thinking about it. Those two are impossible."
"Why?"
"Because Lily, she's the one who..."
Eric didn't finish.
Mark looked at him with sincere puppy eyes. "Dennis, I can keep a secret. I absolutely won't tell."
Eric glanced at Mark and pressed his hand against his face. "Where do you get the nerve to say that?"
Since childhood, Mark had the biggest mouth of them all.
He almost let it slip just now. Good thing he caught himself.
Mark was curious - did Lily have some hidden identity?
Or was Lily's family background too ordinary to mention?
The group walked out.
Lily checked her phone. Zoey had messaged asking where she was.
She looked back at them. "I'm heading back to school then. My friend is waiting for me."
Mark broke free from Eric's hand. "Lily, I'll be in Empire City for a while. Let's have dinner together this weekend."
"We'll see. We can play games online together, though." Lily also wanted to use gaming to test whether Mark was that person.
She turned around. Dennis was standing beside her, his presence very strong.
She lowered her eyelids, said nothing, and ran off.
Dennis stood there, watching Lily's retreating figure. His jaw tightened, his gaze heavy.
Was she avoiding him?
Mark rushed up at this moment, asking with a gossipy face, "Dennis, you still haven't won Lily over? So weak."
Dennis glanced at him. "Why does she want to play games with you?"
"Because I'm good! I'll go to her school's training center and back her up. Then who would dare disrespect her?"
"She doesn't need you to back her up."
Dennis walked ahead with a stern face.
Mark was a bit confused. Eric smacked him. "Can you be more aware? Why are you asking Lily to play games with you?"
"I'm helping him out here."
"You're just dragging things down."
Couldn't he see Dennis's expression had gotten much worse?
Eric thought about their relationship and suddenly felt a headache coming on.
He both hoped they'd get together and worried about Lily finding out about that incident.
After Lily met up with Zoey, they went back to school together.
Zoey was excited the whole way. "When you said earlier that we'd make it to the finals next year, that was so cool. We were all pumped up, like we were on something."
"If we work hard together, we'll have a chance."
She had led that bunch of people to the finals in her past life. This time, with teammates who shared her goals, she could do it too.
But Lily was a bit distracted.
She kept thinking about what Dennis meant by what he said.
He actually asked her what their relationship was.
Wasn't he the one who knew that best?
Why was he even asking?
Lily looked at the night sky outside the window. Her features reflected on the glass, blurry and unclear.
After returning to her dorm, she took a shower and lay down.
In the club group chat, everyone was discussing today's events and saying they wanted to compete too.
Lily scrolled through everyone's chat history. When she exited, the first thing she saw was a message Dennis had sent her.
[Only my girlfriend can check my phone]
[Are you sure you want to check?]
When she saw these messages, Dennis's face inexplicably appeared in her mind.
What did he mean?
He took ugly photos of her and was using these words to brush her off?
She had been in a pretty good mood today after putting the Roberts family in their place.
Lily irritably turned off her phone. Jerk.
After the finals ended, Feed was full of news about the victory.
The Bubble Buddies Team had many fans. Mark was very popular - after all, he was good-looking and had a decent family background. Who wouldn't like him?
But the fact that Mark was from the Gonzalez family hadn't been publicly revealed. There were just rumors that his family was well-off.
She had learned about it from David in her past life.
The next day, Lily went to class as usual.
Ethan came with his friends to confront her. "Lily, didn't I warn you not to make things difficult for Sophie? Just because Samantha apologized to you, you think you can do whatever you want?"
Lily's eyes showed impatience. She walked straight toward Ethan.
Ethan backed away while saying, "I'm warning you, if you hit me, the Murphy Family won't let you off!"
Lily looked at Ethan expressionlessly, which scared him into running away.
So cowardly?
After being scared off, Ethan felt a bit embarrassed. He immediately called Eric to complain. "Eric, did you handle that thing I asked you to help with - talking to the law firm?"
"You little punk, looking for a beating, huh? How dare you order me around!"
"Eric, I'm just worried! Today I tried to reason with Lily, and she actually tried to hit me. She hit me once before in Imperial City, don't you remember?"
"Looks like you haven't learned your lesson. Getting beaten by a woman - that's really embarrassing for the Murphy Family."
Eric just felt a headache coming on. "Ethan, I'm warning you, don't mess with Lily!"
"Eric, is Lily your woman or something? Last time in Imperial City, you protected her, too."
"Stop asking questions. Remember what I said. Don't say I didn't warn you."
Eric hung up, but Ethan couldn't help overthinking. Eric was protecting Lily so much - he probably had some feelings for her.
This was going to be tricky.
After Ethan returned to the classroom, Sophie immediately asked expectantly, "How did it go?"
"Of course, I gave Lily a piece of my mind, but you know her bad temper - she won't listen to anyone."
Of course, Ethan wouldn't mention that he'd been scared off by Lily.
"Can you really make it so Lily can't hire a lawyer like you said before?"
Sophie had noticed that David was being distant with her too, probably still angry because of what Lily said.
Michael and Austin didn't even acknowledge her anymore.
Sophie really wanted to change her current situation. She could only ask Ethan for help. If he could pull this off and prevent Lily from hiring a lawyer, then Austin would be fine.
As long as Austin was fine, she'd still have a chance to win him back.
Ethan's expression was a bit awkward. "It's not really a big deal, but if I get involved, my mom might find out. If she knows, she'll have a bad impression of you."
Sophie was a bit disappointed but still acted understanding. "I get it. We definitely can't let your mom find out."
If she got a bad impression, how could she marry into the Murphy Family in the future?
Samantha, next to them, snorted coldly. "Can't even handle such a small thing. Ethan, you're so useless!"
Ethan's face darkened. "If you're not useless, then why did you publicly apologize to Lily?"
"That's because Lily has dirt on me, plus I can't cause trouble right now. My sister is discussing an engagement with the most powerful heir in Empire City. The Harper family can't have any problems; otherwise, why would I put up with that hick Lily?"
Samantha was furious. "I can make some calls and make sure Lily can't hire a lawyer! It's not a big deal."
Sophie's eyes showed a flash of delight. That would be perfect.
But Ethan looked at Sophie. "Has Lily been dating a new boyfriend recently?"
Otherwise, why would Eric protect her?
"No, her sort-of boyfriend has always been that school doctor named Gonzalez."
Ethan's expression changed. "His last name is Gonzalez? Is his name Dennis?"
He had a bad feeling about this.
