Chapter 168 Austin and Sophie Had an Argument
Austin really regrets it now.
He should have listened to Michael earlier; then he wouldn't have fallen for Sophie's trick yesterday.
If he had exposed Sophie's behavior on the spot, Lily wouldn't be so angry, and Michael's project wouldn't have lost its bidding qualification.
Sophie took a few steps back, "Austin, I was doing it for David's investment, for Michael's project! I didn't expect to be set up by Lily!"
"Set up?"
"Yes, Lily obviously dug a trap for us to fall into!"
Austin kept a straight face, "You're the one who fell into it, and dragged me down with you. You were the one who plagiarized, you were the one who schemed against Lily first, which led to such serious consequences! All of this is your fault!"
Hearing Sophie twist the facts, Austin thought that in the past, he might have actually believed it was Lily's fault.
But this time, he witnessed the whole thing himself.
This had nothing to do with Lily. It was Sophie who tried to scheme against Lily, but failed in the end.
Sophie shrank back, not expecting Austin to be so clear-headed this time and not fall for it!
She felt a bit annoyed inside.
She looked at Austin, "But Austin, don't forget, you went along with what I did at the time, which means you thought the same way I did, right?"
"Shut up, don't compare me to you!" Austin was angry, but at the same time, he felt guilty.
"Austin, do I need to remind you? Forget about this time, just think about the recent team stuff. Weren't you also thinking about making Lily go back to the Roberts family with her tail between her legs, then join your team for the competition?" Sophie's eyes were mocking, "You're just pushing all the blame onto me. That's not fair."
"Sophie, I didn't know you were this kind of person!" Austin grabbed Sophie's shoulder, "Go tell David clearly that I had nothing to do with this."
"If I say that, will David believe me?"
Austin froze, "Sophie, this is your true face, isn't it?"
Sophie put on an innocent expression, "Austin, I've always been like this. It's you who doesn't dare face what you've done before."
"Enough, stop talking." Austin pushed Sophie away, but she fell straight to the ground, her forehead hitting the steps, and blood immediately started flowing.
When Austin saw the blood, he was a bit surprised.
At that moment, Michael came over and quickly helped Sophie up. "Austin, what are you doing?"
Austin's expression froze, "I didn't mean to."
Seeing Michael helping her up on his own initiative, Sophie quickly showed a hint of delight, "Michael, this isn't Austin's fault. I didn't stand steady myself. He didn't mean to."
Hearing Sophie's sarcastic tone, Michael let go of her hand in disgust.
He looked at Austin, "Austin, what exactly did you and Sophie do yesterday? I received a lawyer's letter. Lily, representing Maple Leaf Corporation, is suing both of you."
After hearing this, Austin's expression became very ugly.
"I'm sorry Michael, I messed this up."
He should have stopped Sophie.
Michael was a bit anxious, "What exactly happened? Why didn't you call me to yesterday's meeting?"
Sophie spoke up, "David said you needed to rest well and told us not to bother you with this."
Mainly because they would see Lily, David was worried Michael would do something irrational, so he kept it from Michael!
As a result, Lily still escaped!
"Enough Sophie, do you think I'd believe that kind of lie?" Michael didn't believe it at all.
Most likely, David was worried that if he saw Lily himself, he'd take her side, so he didn't let him go.
Sophie was startled, the blood on her forehead congealing on her face, "Michael, this time I really wanted to help you!"
Michael said nothing, just gave Sophie a cold glance.
Austin, like a walking corpse, recounted what happened yesterday.
After hearing it, Michael grabbed Austin's collar in fury, "Are you crazy? Why did you help Sophie? Did you forget what I told you?"
"Michael, I regret it. What should I do?" Austin's mouth twitched, he couldn't even cry!
Michael didn't expect things to turn out like this. He let go of Austin, "I'm going to find David!"
Michael turned and left. He needed to ask David clearly.
Why did he do this?
Sophie stood alone to the side. No one cared about the wound on her forehead. This contrast made her feel very uncomfortable.
If it were before, as long as she got hurt, her brothers wouldn't hold anything against her.
Why is it different now?
She had wanted to use this sympathy play to win Austin back.
Sophie carefully looked at Austin, deliberately showing her injured forehead, "Austin, what I said just now was just said in anger..."
Austin walked forward with heavy steps, not even glancing at Sophie.
Watching Austin's retreating figure, the pitiful expression on Sophie's face turned into one of impatience.
Damn it, the sympathy play didn't work anymore.
Sophie adjusted her mood and immediately called Ethan, her voice aggrieved and choked up, "Ethan, I'm dying..."
She had to find someone to take over; otherwise, wouldn't her injury be for nothing?
Now that both Michael and Austin had changed, she had to make plans for herself. Ethan was currently her best choice.
Dumb, rich, and easy to fool.
Once she married into the Murphy Family and became a wealthy wife, wouldn't it be easy to crush Lily?
After class, Lily went to the team base with Zoey. Now they needed to start selecting official team members.
This weekend they also had to go to the stadium to watch the team finals.
Zoey glanced at Lily, looking like she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Lily looked over, "Just say what you want to say."
"I want to say you're excellent. Some people just have weak family ties."
Lily smiled. Was she trying to comfort her?
Lily answered lightly, "I stopped caring about the Roberts family people a long time ago."
She now had her own life, career, and friends. She no longer craved so-called sibling affection.
Poppy came over, "Lily, tickets for the finals aren't easy to buy. The scalpers' tickets are quite expensive."
"Buy them. As long as they're members of our team and pass the review, they can all go watch the match. I'll pay for it!"
Lily was in a good mood. If her AI project successfully launched, this small amount of money was nothing.
She could be considered a successful woman, too.
Poppy sighed, "I'd better encourage everyone to grab tickets themselves. Don't buy from scalpers, it's too expensive. You don't know how to save money at all. The team hasn't found a sponsor yet, and there will be plenty of places to spend money in the future!"
After being lectured, Lily looked at the bill and became obedient.
She still had to work hard to get sponsors.
Bruce invited her to a party after the finals. Maybe she could find a sponsor there!
After leaving the team base, Lily rubbed her arm and finally chose to go back to the dorm to rest.
Better listen to Dennis and rest a bit.
As soon as she lay down, her phone rang.
She casually picked it up and answered. David's cold voice came through, "Lily, you actually dare to sue your family? You ungrateful thing!"
So quick to panic?
Looks like they received the lawyer's letter.
Lily said lightly, "I signed the family severance agreement a long time ago."
"What does your signature mean? You're a Roberts family person in life and a Roberts family ghost in death. If Mom and Dad knew that you don't even want the Roberts family name anymore, how sad would they be!"
After hearing this, Lily immediately sat up straight, her eyes cold.
