Chapter 137 Sophie Knelt Down and Begged for Mercy
"Sophie, what's up?" Paul asked.
Sophie held her phone and stated her request.
"I need you to help me destroy a surveillance video - go steal it from the police station!"
"Sophie, did you leave some evidence behind? I can help you, but last time you just blocked me directly, which really hurt my feelings."
"Cut the crap. As long as you help me this once, I'll make it worth your while and won't block you again."
Sophie was desperate now. The only person she could think of was this man of unknown origin who claimed to be her father.
Whether he was her father or not, as long as he could help her, she could use him!
"No problem, I'll take care of it for you."
After hanging up, Sophie immediately deleted the call record.
She checked Michael's breathing, then quickly called David, her voice tearful, "David, something terrible happened to Michael!"
"What's wrong? Don't cry first, calm down," David asked.
"Michael just came to see Lily, asking how she was doing at school, and they got into an argument. Michael got so upset he passed out. What should I do?" Sophie cried pitifully on the phone.
David's tone was stern, "Call an ambulance first, and give me the address."
After Sophie hung up, she wiped the tears from her eyes. Her acting skills were truly superb.
When she turned to look at Michael, a mocking expression appeared on her face.
As long as the video was destroyed.
No matter what Michael said, no one would believe him.
After all, David hated Lily now and would only believe what she said!
She wasn't going to give up that easily!
Meanwhile, Lily went to the police station with Dennis.
Lily was in a pretty good mood. She glanced at the car she was sitting in, "You changed cars again? This isn't the same one as last time!"
"A friend's car!"
Lily nodded, "By the way, what have you been doing these past few days in Empire City? Don't tell me you've been chasing girls the whole time?"
Dennis gripped the steering wheel tightly and answered vaguely, "Not doing that anymore."
"Why not?"
Lily looked at Dennis in surprise. When she heard him say this, she felt a little happy!
Her mood became somewhat complicated at that moment.
Dennis coughed, "Do I need a reason?"
"Is it because of what happened at the bar last time? I'm sorry, but I know you were trying to save me. Nothing really happened between us, and I won't make you take responsibility."
Lily lowered her head, "Don't let me affect your life."
After what happened at the bar last time, although she and Dennis didn't go all the way, they had been intimate.
She had even secretly touched his abs - they were really hard.
Dennis looked thin, but he was quite strong without his clothes.
Dennis stopped the car at a red light and turned to look at Lily. Her almond-shaped eyes showed a hint of caution.
Looking at her, his originally cold heart instantly softened.
The corners of his mouth lifted slightly, "It has nothing to do with you. It's my own decision."
Lily didn't quite understand what he meant by that.
Suddenly, Lily looked up and saw across the street - a van was out of control and heading straight toward them!
In that moment, time seemed to slow down.
Lily shouted, "Dennis, watch out!"
Dennis saw the approaching vehicle. Instinctively, he jerked the steering wheel, protecting Lily in the passenger seat at a safer angle.
Lily felt like her ears had exploded. Her whole body nearly flew out.
Fortunately, the seatbelt held her firmly in her seat!
Lily felt dizzy and nauseous, with a ringing in her ears.
She felt herself losing consciousness.
But in her daze, she sensed someone rummaging for something beside her.
Lily opened her eyes to a blur of red.
She saw someone take the laptop from beside her.
Lily wanted to stop them but had no strength and could only watch helplessly as they stole the laptop!
When she turned to look at Dennis, she only saw him slumped over the steering wheel, blood flowing down from his head.
Dennis, wake up!
Lily finally passed out too, thinking to herself, 'I've dragged Dennis into this after all.'
This car accident seemed ordinary, but it caused quite a stir in the Gonzalez family!
[Mr. Gonzalez, of the Gonzalez family, suspected of having an affair, gets in a car accident while driving with his new partner!]
This news quickly made the entertainment headlines, but was just as quickly deleted completely.
When Lily woke up, all she could smell was disinfectant.
She knew she must be in the hospital.
Eric breathed a sigh of relief, "Lily, you're awake. Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
"Where's Dennis? How is he?" Lily only remembered he was hurt worse than her!
"He's fine. Don't move yet, you're still on an IV," Eric explained.
"I need to go see him!" Lily wouldn't feel at ease unless she saw him with her own eyes.
"You can't right now!" Eric said urgently.
"Why not? Is Dennis seriously injured and you're trying to hide it from me?" The more Lily thought about it, the more panicked she became.
Eric held Lily down, "You've been watching too many soap operas, haven't you? He's really fine, but his family is there right now. If you go, it wouldn't be appropriate. After all, you were in the accident together, so they might have some misunderstandings about you."
After Dennis got in the accident, the Gonzalez family searched the whole world looking for the culprit!
Good thing he got to the hospital early and separated Lily and Dennis in time.
Otherwise, Lily would be in big trouble!
Lily felt a bit guilty, "He got hurt, so I am responsible!"
"It was an accident. What does it have to do with you? It's just that Dennis's previous blind date was arranged by his family. If you were in an accident with him, there would definitely be misunderstandings. You're not in a position to meet the parents right now!" Eric said.
The Gonzalez family members were all there, so it wasn't appropriate for Lily to show up.
Only then did Lily give up the idea of seeing Dennis right now.
"Lily, later, when his family leaves, I'll find a chance to take you there."
"Okay." Since Eric said so, she wasn't in that much of a hurry.
Lily thought of something, "This wasn't an accident. Someone did it on purpose."
"On purpose? Your enemy?" Eric wondered if it might be Dennis's enemy, like a business rival or someone who went bankrupt competing with them!
Lily nodded, "That person took the laptop. It had the surveillance footage from the bar that day."
"Holy shit, so they really were after you! That narrows down the investigation."
Lily's lips curved coldly, "It was Sophie!"
After all, if her brothers saw that video, Sophie wouldn't be able to keep up her image anymore.
Sophie was the person who most wanted to destroy that video.
"Besides Sophie, the Harper family is also a suspect. The driver still hasn't been found - only the Harper family has that kind of power!"
"You're right. Sophie probably doesn't have those kinds of connections in Empire City. Maybe she told the Harper family about this. The Harper family, to protect Samantha, would send someone to do this!"
Lily hadn't expected the Harper family to be so ruthless!
They actually wanted her dead!
"But if the laptop was stolen and there's no backup, the evidence has probably been destroyed."
"Don't worry - I gave Michael a copy too!"
