Chapter 109 Stop Talking
Michael was at a loss for words after hearing this.
How could Barry come up with such an absurd suggestion?
Sophie was secretly delighted - this couldn't be better.
She would definitely find a way to make Lily do poorly on the exam next year. She absolutely wouldn't let Lily do this well again.
But Sophie pretended to be gracious: "Barry, what nonsense are you talking about? Although I'd like to have Lily's company, she did so well this time. Why would she want to take the SAT again?"
Michael said coldly, "Good that you know."
Sophie bit her lip and lowered her head.
Barry continued: "Mr. Michael Roberts, if Ms. Roberts could accompany Miss Scott, she would definitely set a good example. When word gets out, everyone will say the Roberts family is generous."
Michael stared at Barry with cold eyes.
Barry's voice grew quieter: "Otherwise, if Ms. Roberts got first place on the SAT while Miss Scott got zero, people will think the Roberts family mistreated Miss Scott."
"The Roberts family mistreated Sophie? That's ridiculous. Barry, are you getting old and confused?"
Barry still wouldn't give up, so Michael said coldly, "If you say that again, don't bother coming to work tomorrow."
He couldn't use a butler like this.
If it weren't for the fact that Barry had served the family since his parents were alive, he would have fired him over the stationery incident last time.
Sophie quickly tried to smooth things over: "Barry, stop talking. How could I delay Lily's future? I'll work hard on my own."
Michael's attitude was cold: "Go back to your hospital room and rest."
Sophie had no choice but to reluctantly return to her room.
Barry followed her in, looking at Sophie with concern: "Miss Scott, please don't commit suicide. Your classmate who killed herself was found days later, and you know how terrible the body looked, right?"
"Stop talking!"
Sophie suddenly shouted to stop Barry, then guiltily lowered her head. She adjusted her emotions and told Barry to go apologize to Michael.
Sophie took out her phone and saw several unread messages.
[I've already taken care of that classmate for you. I'll eliminate everyone who stands in your way.]
Sophie was somewhat panicked: [I only asked you to find a way to shut Calista up. Who told you to kill her?]
When the police questioned her, she was scared to death. She never wanted Calista to die.
[That girl's mouth was pretty stubborn. Only dead people can keep secrets forever.]
Sophie really regretted letting this person get involved. She still hadn't confirmed whether he was actually her father.
[What about that, Lily? Do you want her dead, too? Once she's dead, you'll be the only young lady of the Roberts family.]
Sophie found herself wavering for a moment.
If Lily died, there would be no one to compete with her.
The thought flashed through Sophie's mind, but she quickly stopped herself.
If murders kept happening, they would definitely suspect her. This couldn't continue.
She quickly replied: [I've already paid you. Don't harass me anymore!]
She didn't want to be involved with this person.
And she didn't want anyone to know Calista's death was related to her!
Barry knocked and entered: "Ms. Roberts, Calista's family is looking for you again. Fortunately, I ran into them outside and had someone stop them. If Calista's family found Mr. Michael Roberts and said something they shouldn't, that wouldn't be good for you."
"Barry, thank you. Please help keep Calista's family quiet. They absolutely cannot talk nonsense in front of Michael. You know Michael's attitude toward me has changed a lot recently."
Sophie's nerves were on edge now, terrified that someone would discover what had happened between her and that mysterious person.
Both Michael's and Austin's attitudes had changed significantly. She had to find a way to restore their good impression of her.
After Barry left, Sophie immediately went to the next hospital room and heard Michael and Austin talking inside.
"Michael, now David is saying he wants to cut ties with Lily. What should we do?"
"David is just speaking in anger. I plan to shift the company's focus to Empire City from now on. After all, Lily will be living in Empire City in the future, so we'll be closer to her."
"What about Sophie? She still needs to prepare for the exam again."
"She can retake the SAT. Having servants and a driver is enough. We don't need to do anything."
Michael's attitude toward Sophie was somewhat cold now. He continued: "In half a month, there's an AI investment event in Empire City. This is a great opportunity for the company's development. We must prepare well."
Sophie's eyes filled with hatred as she listened.
She didn't want to prepare for the SAT again. She absolutely couldn't fall behind Lily.
Right now, the only person she could turn to was David.
---
After Lily finished her livestream, she communicated with the people at Crayfish Live and returned all the gifts Michael had sent.
She didn't want a penny from the Roberts family!
For the next two weeks, Lily stayed at Eric's company, participating in the AI project development.
After all, the time before the investment showcase was quite tight.
Lily received a call from Michael: "Lily, the acceptance letter from Empire City University arrived at home. When will you come back to get it?"
"No need to go to that trouble. I'll have someone pick it up."
She didn't plan to go back.
"Lily, I know you're very disappointed with the family now, but I hope you'll come back one last time before you leave."
"There's nothing to see."
Lily suddenly thought of something and continued: "I'll come back and see, but I need you to do me a favor."
"No problem. Between family members, there's no talk of favors. It's what I should do."
A cold smile curved Lily's lips as she hung up directly.
She found Dennis: "I need to go back to the Roberts Mansion. The acceptance letter was sent there."
Dennis's expression showed displeasure: "They're using the acceptance letter to threaten you to go back?"
"Not exactly, but that's close. But I actually have something to do there anyway, to avoid more trouble later."
Dennis saw that Lily had made up her mind: "I'll take you."
Lily nodded. She and Dennis set off together for the Roberts Mansion.
Seeing the place where she'd lived for many years, her feelings were complicated. After all, since she moved out, she had never come back.
The car stopped outside the Roberts Mansion.
Dennis glanced over: "Do you want me to come with you?"
"No need, I can handle it myself. I'll call you if anything comes up."
Seeing Dennis waiting outside made Lily feel much calmer.
She got out of the car and walked to the door to enter the password, only to find it was incorrect.
A mocking smile appeared on Lily's lips. She pressed the doorbell, and soon Barry came out.
Lily said with a half-smile: "When was the password changed?"
Barry stood at the door with a cold expression: "Ms. Roberts, Mr. David Roberts ordered that you're not allowed to set foot in the Roberts Mansion without his permission! The password has been changed to Miss Scott's birthday!"
