Chapter 105 Clarifying the Relationship with the Roberts Family in Public
Austin looked at the man sitting next to Lily in the front row, his expression somewhat unnatural: "That's the school doctor."
"The school doctor? Why does he look kind of familiar!"
"David, have you met that school doctor before?"
David squinted: "Probably just looks a bit similar. After all, considering that person's status, even I've only seen him from afar once."
The Roberts family's status and position were still far behind Empire City's first family, the Gonzalez family.
He wouldn't be in a place like this, getting involved with Lily.
Must have been mistaken.
The host announced into the microphone: "Hello everyone, welcome to today's event. Now we announce the first Outstanding Youth Award recipient, who is also the youngest winner this time—Lily Roberts!"
David's expression changed immediately: "How is that possible? She actually got selected."
When did Lily become so impressive?
Lily was shocked when she heard her name called, looking toward the stage.
Was Austin happy: "Isn't this great? My sister is so outstanding, that's awesome."
But David felt like he was punching cotton, unable to use any force.
His mood was complicated.
Lily took a deep breath and stood at the podium.
Her new life had begun.
After Lily finished her speech, the host interviewed her: "Ms. Roberts, you're really popular now. To be so successful at such a young age—you mentioned before that your family had the biggest influence on you, right? The Roberts family happens to be here today, let's invite them to say a few words."
The microphone was handed directly to David.
David held the microphone like a hot potato.
Facing so many eyes, David felt his face burning: "Lily's achievements today certainly can't be separated from the family's cultivation and education."
As a seasoned businessman, David could easily produce such pleasantries.
People around him who knew him were flattering David: "Congratulations, Mr. Roberts, on having such an outstanding sister."
"Mr. Roberts, how did you raise a sister who's first in the city? You'll have to share your experience with everyone sometime."
David smiled: "Of course, of course. Her grades are good, but her personality is a bit off."
He didn't expect Lily's status as the city's top student to be so useful.
If Lily could recognize her mistakes, he could consider letting bygones be bygones and letting her stay with the family.
Lily heard these words, a cold smile curling at her lips.
She didn't expect the Roberts family to be so shameless.
After David's speech, the host looked at Lily: "Ms. Roberts, is there anything else you'd like to say?"
Lily looked at David with a half-smile: "I find it funny that they contributed nothing to what I achieved today, yet have the nerve to say it can't be separated from the Roberts family's education?"
The host was stunned: "Ms. Roberts, what do you mean?"
"It's simple. Before the exam, they forced me to take leave to participate in team competitions, threatening to cut off my living expenses otherwise. Luckily, I survived until the exam with my scholarship. And when my improved grades were suspected of cheating, they forced me to admit to cheating and accept punishment, unwilling to believe me even a little. Where do they get the nerve to call themselves my family?"
Lily continued calmly: "Besides, I've already cut ties with the Roberts family. I have no family now!"
These words were like a bombshell, shocking everyone present.
David's face turned dark with anger. He had never been so humiliated.
How dare Lily say these things in front of the media?
David clutched his chest in anger, struggling to breathe.
Austin quickly supported him: "David, calm down. We were wrong to Lily, it's natural for her to be angry."
Hearing those words, Austin suddenly remembered forcing Lily to compete, feeling a wave of guilt.
Good thing Lily wasn't affected; otherwise, she definitely couldn't have done so well on the exam.
"Wasn't she raised by the Roberts family? Just because she suffered a little, she wants to cut ties? Who acts like this?"
"Lily, get down here and explain yourself. How has the Roberts family wronged you?"
David felt like everyone around was laughing at him.
And all of this was brought on by Lily.
Lily walked straight off the stage, her eyes ice-cold: "Yesterday, when Empire City University staff called you, did you refuse them, saying I wouldn't go to Empire City University?"
David's expression changed, not knowing how to answer for a moment.
Lily continued righteously: "Did you demand that I not go to Empire City University, stay local, and attend the same university as the Roberts family's adopted sister, who cheated on exams and has terrible grades?"
Everyone around was shocked.
"Going to Empire City University is such an honor, and the Roberts family refused?"
"Yeah, if I had such an outstanding daughter, I'd book a restaurant to celebrate for three days and nights. If the dogs on the street didn't know about it, that would be my failure."
"The Roberts family ignores their genius sister and favors an adopted sister with poor character instead—are they blind?"
Hearing these discussions, David cursed angrily: "It's not like that. I asked you to stay local for your own good!"
"For my own good?"
Lily's expression was mocking: "For my own good means making me give up Empire City University? This is what you call being good to me? Who needs the Roberts family's version of 'good'?"
David felt too guilty to look Lily in the eye.
Austin nervously explained: "Lily, David didn't mean it that way, don't misunderstand!"
"And you!"
Lily looked at Austin: "You forced me to take leave, delaying my studies to play games, and only won the revival round because of me! Without me, you were eliminated in the first round of the finals."
Austin felt extremely guilty: "Lily, it's all my fault. I really shouldn't have pressured you like that. Fortunately, your exam results weren't affected."
"I don't need your apologies, but I've already cut ties with you all. I hope you can understand that clearly."
Lily turned and left the venue.
She would absolutely not get involved with the Roberts family in any way.
David angrily looked at his secretary: "Suppress this news; it can't get out."
Otherwise, the Roberts family would become a laughingstock.
David looked at the people around: "This kid is fighting with the family. Teenagers, you know how hard they are to manage."
Austin was anxious: "David, why did you refuse Empire City University's offer to Lily? Having someone from our family go to Empire City University—if Mom and Dad knew, they'd be so happy."
David was at a loss for words, still unwilling to admit his mistake: "With her personality going to Empire City University, what if she causes trouble? Staying at a local university is best for her."
"David! She has us brothers to protect her in Empire City. What could happen to her? Are you confused?"
Austin also felt David had acted inappropriately in this matter and chased after Lily.
Lily walked outside alone, with Dennis walking beside her: "Feel better now?"
"Yes."
"Finally stopped avoiding them?"
Lily's lips curled coldly: "I used to think staying away from the Roberts family would let me start a new life, but now I realize some people really won't understand what you're saying unless you teach them a lesson."
After making things clear in front of the media today, she finally felt much better.
If the Roberts family came to trouble her again, everything she had given to the Roberts family before, she would take it all back!
"Lily, Lily, wait for me!"
