Chapter 46 Chapter Forty-six
Nikolai's POV
"Get your hands off me," I swatted Gianna's hand off me, the moment we were out of those watchful eyes. "What are you even doing here?" I asked, trying to keep my voice calm, even after my first outburst.
"I've been trying to call you since you left my place, but you didn't take any of my calls. I went to the office, you weren't there, so I thought you would be here, at the party, since your family is the host." How convenient! My gaze fixed on her. "Can we talk now " she pulled my hand again. I discreetly pulled from her.
"And you think wrapping your hand around my waist was the best thing to do in front of that crowd? People are watching you know?"
"People?" She smirked, "Since when did you care about people?" I parted my lips to say something, but Gianna beat me to it, "or you mean your brother's little fiancée?" She chuckled as she moved to the balcony, turning her back to me, those round ass of hers was tempting with her back in full display, I felt like pressing my lips there and pushing my fingers down her exposed waist till I found her bare ass and gave it a hard squeeze.
Rip those clothes away from her body and throw her in the bed, while I do wicked things to her. I swallowed hard before turning my gaze. I shouldn't be thinking of that right now. If I want to end this madness going on between us, then I should be able to keep my dick in my pants.
I've lost count of the number of times that I told her I don't want this anymore, but every damn time, I kept going back to her.
Everyone knows I don't do relationships, and this thing between us, I can't even call it a relationship. Even though, for the longest time, she had been the only female in my bed, since we started this no strings attached contract.
I never fuck any other woman since we started this whole madness, Gianna is an amazing woman, she could be strong-headed but she is caring and nice but I wouldn't lie to myself, I don't feel that strong urge I felt around Elena, something inside of me desires Elena more than it had desired her. "I'm sorry..." She said suddenly and my gaze snapped to her, "... Nikolai, I know the reason you are distancing from me, sorry I said those words." My brows furrow.
"Sorry, I said, I love you." My gaze refused to leave her face. "I know that from the beginning, this thing between us was nothing strong but just to get our desires satisfied." I saw pain flash in her eyes, but I didn't want to dwell on that; I didn't want someone knowing that I have a heart. I didn't want to give her hope, because there is nothing to hold on to, "it was just for the fuck, I shouldn't have said those words. I crossed the line when I said that, but I just said it for fun, you know, I don't love. As well." She was lying, I could see through her. Matteo was right, she was falling for me. Falling for someone who wasn't ready to catch her. Falling for someone who doesn't deserve her love.
"I know..." I whisper, not wanting to make the situation even harder than it already was. "I wasn't avoiding you because of those words." I saw relief flicker in her eyes, "I was busy with work." To some extent, I wasn't lying when I said I wasn't avoiding her because of those words, but I was busy.
Nah! I wasn't busy, or maybe I was busy wishing for things that aren't mine. Wishing to touch something that could burn me. Something that would end me in trouble or even cause my life. "But still you should have just call and you know that I will always show up when I'm less busy instead of showing up here, in a mafia party trying to be territorial." She bit her lower lip. Lie, I would probably not even remember her or even show up at her doorstep again, unless I couldn't find an alternative to release.
"Sorry about that," I shrugged, "So does it mean we are cool?" She asked, taking a step closer, but not daring enough to hold me.
I nodded, "Yes, we are, and we should join the party before people start looking for me and thinking that I ran off with a girl."
"Didn't you?" she teases, I just shake my head, pushing the door of the room open so we could join the others at the party.
"Did I?" I returned her question with another question, and she smiled.
"I missed you, I almost thought you were dumping me for your brother's woman."
"Gianna!" I called in frustration as the reminder was something I didn't like. I hate it when people remind me that I couldn't get something that I wanted.
"Sorry, but I will have to warn you." Her voice low, "You know the rules of the mafia, the mafia code..."
"Yeah, I know, my brother's women, are off limits," I retorted, "and can you all stop, Elena and I had nothing, she is just some little girl, that Moretti gave the impression that she could have anything she wants.""
"Does she get under your skin? You..." I huffed cutting her off.
"Please Gianna, I don't know where all these words of wisdom are shooting out from. I told you, I just had to pick her up from the airport, bring her home, and show her around town, so she doesn't get bored at home. So I'm just like a babysitter nothing else. So stop with the lecture."
"Just asking, so you don't get into his trap and he order for your head. You know that developing feelings for his woman is like pulling a rope on your throat." I smirked, gesturing for one of the waiters to come closer. When he did, I grabbed two glasses of wine, handing one to Gianna while I sipped on the other.
"Since when do you care if my head was separated from my neck?"" She parted her lips, then shut them almost immediately. I smirked. "Oh Gianna!" I whispered, "you know me, I'm not scared of anything but you are mistaken..." I paused as my brain refused to accept what my lips were about to say, yet I forced my brain to accept it and pushed that annoying voice in my head, which acts as if it knows me more than I know myself. "I'm not in love with the little manipulating brat."
"Better!" She sips on the wine, then raises her head, her eyes glistening as she sees a group of mafia couples dancing. "Can we dance?"
"Bad idea!" I declined almost the same time the words slipped from her lips.
"I know you don't want to dance with me because you don't want Elena seeing both of us, but look, she is not there, and her friend isn't even paying attention." She rested her head on my chest casually.
"Gianna!" I called in frustration. I know Elena wasn't there, but what if she shows up suddenly?
"Fine, I will go, but please call me when you are done with the party."
"Sure, I will." Agreeing too fast so she could disappeared, the moment she walked away, I let out a breath of relief and join the others, instead of joining the men section, I stand at the top floor, where I could see them, my eyes scan the environment, falling on the women section, Shannon is sitting there, but Elena isn't back, I frown wondering where she went to, then suddenly, Rafael came from the hallway, with his arms wrapped around Arabella, and my lips fall, I saw don Moretti's lips move, whispering something to father, before I could make out his words, Matteo bump me from behind.
"Hey..."
"Look over there!"
