Chapter 46
Chapter 46
Adrianna's pov~
“Mum?”
My voice barely comes out as more than a breath. She looks up and for a second, we just stare at each other.
She’s sitting up now but she looks so pale and weak but alive.
Her eyes fill with tears almost instantly.
“Adrianna…” That’s all it takes.
I’m moving before I even realize it, ignoring the protest of my body as I cross the room. Dante is right behind me, ready to catch me if I fall.
But I don’t. I make it to her and then I’m in her arms or at least… as much as she can manage.
“I thought I lost you,” she whispers, her voice breaking.
“I’m here,” I murmur into her shoulder. “I’m right here.”
Her hand moves to my face, trembling as she cups it.
“You’ve grown so much,” she says softly. “You’re… so strong.”
I let out a shaky laugh. “You don’t know the half of it.” Her eyes search mine.
“We’re together now,” she says. I nod.
“We are.” And for a moment.. everything feels okay.
~~
That night, the world ends for me. It starts small. I feel a shift and a tightening in my stomach. I barely register it at first. Maybe it's just another symptom or wave.
I’ve learned to ignore pain but this.. this is different. I sit up slightly, my breath hitching as the pressure increases.
“Dante…” I whisper.
He’s asleep beside me, his arm draped over my waist.
“Dante.” His eyes snap open instantly.
“What’s wrong?”
“I—” I gasp as the pain spikes suddenly, sharp and blinding. “Something’s wrong.”
He’s up in a second. “Where does it hurt?”
“Everywhere-” My voice breaks as another wave crashes through me. Stronger this time. “Dante, I-”
I don’t even finish when a scream tears out of me.
Panic floods his face. “Luca!” he shouts, already moving. “Luca!”
My body curls in on itself as the pain intensifies. I can’t breathe.
"Adrianna, stay with me!” Dante’s voice is frantic now, his hands gripping mine.
“I can’t-” I choke out. “It hurts..”
I can hear footsteps and voices as the room fills up
“What’s happening?” Elio demands.
“She’s in pain-”
“I can see that!” Armando snaps.
“Move,” Luca orders, already at my side. His hands press against my stomach. His expression changes instantly to fear.
“No…” he mutters under his breath.
“What?” Dante demands. “What is it?”
Luca looks up and the words that come out of his mouth shatter everything.
“It’s too soon.” My heart stops.
“What?” I whisper.
“She’s going into labor,” he says, his voice tight. “But her body, ” He shakes his head. “It’s not ready.”
Another scream rips through me as the pain consumes everything. The room spins.
Whatever happens today, I need to get this children out of my damn body asap. Alive.
