Chapter 212

Finlay, I'm here.

“Keep moving,” the head servant shouted when he noticed me looking around. I lowered my eyes and followed all the people. He took us to the kitchen. I stood beside Helio with others.

“The army of the kingdom is increased, and so there are lots of demon guards. You have to look after all their needs. King wants his army to be fed well and has given special instructions to look after them,” he told all of us. So that's the reason why they have recruited more servants. He wants to feed them well so they can take the lives of all the innocent people. I still remember how they exploded all the villagers. I think they abducted all the women from all the villages so they could warm their beds. He was taking all the precautions to keep them happy so they could be his loyal dogs. I could see the picture now.

“So you four will help with the needs of all demon guards," he said, looking at the four men standing in front of us.

“Who knows how to make supper?” the head servant asked while looking at the rest of us. Helio lifted his hand, and he nudged me with his elbow. I lifted my hand. Two more women with us had lifted their hands. He looked at us with narrowed eyes before he nodded at us.

“You four will be working in the kitchen," he said in a firm voice, making me nod my head. He told the rest of the people what they would do before dismissing them.

“You all follow me,” he said while looking with his narrowed eyes. He was looking at us so suspiciously as if he knew we were up to something. I decided to stay low until I got out of his reader. I think he is suspicious about everything because we are new. He took us to the kitchen. It is very big. There were big pots on the fire, and people were cooking the food. I could see so much meat was kept in big pots for cooking. I face it grimly, looking at it.

“You will be working here from now onwards,” he said curtly.

“I don't want to see you slacking because it's your first day. Get to work now,” he shouted suddenly before walking away. The workers there gave us instructions, and we had to immediately get to work. I wanted to slip and go look around, but that head servant kept coming inside the kitchen every five minutes.

“Doesn't he have anything else to do?” I mumbled under my breath while chopping onions.

“Shhh! He is coming here,” Helio whispered while chopping the onion. He came and stood near us. He carefully looked at the chop before walking away. Helio exhaled audibly, and I rolled my eyes. He made us work like mulls until it was time to leave. I was so exhausted because of working so much after so long.

“Here are your wages,” he said, giving me a small pouch of cold coins. I gave him a tight smile, and he looked at me with narrowed eyes. I averted my eyes and walked away. I was so exhausted today. Helio followed me.

“It seems like we got paid more than what you used to get out of the village," he said while weighing the small pouch of gold in his hand.

“It's way more than it but way less here,” I said with a grim look on my face. Everywhere, the poor were exploited by the rich. I hate it. There should be laws for such kinds of things. I was walking when suddenly I stopped. Helio's body clashed with mine. I immediately turned and took hold of his hand and hid behind the pillar.

“What happened?” Helio asked while looking at me with furrowed brows.

“Shhh,” I said while putting my finger on my lips. His brows furrowed even more, but then I gestured to him, and he followed my gaze. He stood there talking with some demon soldiers. His back was towards us.

“Who is he?” Helio asked, still looking at his back with furrowed brows.

“Army general," I whispered, and his eyes widened slightly.

“I hope he doesn't come this way,” I whispered, still looking at his back. I don't wish to get caught on the very first day I enter here. I was busy looking at him.

“What are you both still doing here?” a curt voice said from behind us, making us jump on our place. We both turned around to see the head servant standing behind us. He looked at us with narrowed eyes.

“We are on our way out, but we couldn't find our way out. This castle is so big,” I said immediately before he got suspicious. I almost thought he was going to call demon guards on us when he nodded his head.

“I will show you the way out only this time. Next time I find you like this, you won't be able to get out ever,” he said in a firm voice, warning us. I nodded my head with a look of distress. I don't want the army general to find me.

“What are you waiting for to follow me?” he said sternly, leaving us no choice. I turned my head to see if the army general was still there. I took a deep breath when I didn't see him there. We followed the head servant immediately, not wanting to get in trouble. We walked out of the main door. I covered my face properly when I saw the army general once again at the gates. He was on his horse. It looked like he was going somewhere. Helio and I passed by him before he could notice us, but to my bad luck, he did.

“Hey, you wait there," I heard him saying when we walked past him.

“Walk fast," I told Helio, and he followed me with fast steps.

“Stop there," he said in a firm tone this time, but we didn't stop walking. I look up at the sky. The sun was about to set. It has already started to get dark. I heard him moving towards us.

“Let's split,” I said to Helio when we were near the market because it would be hard to follow the two of us in the crowd. I don't want Helio to get in trouble too. I thought he would lose us in the crowd, but when I turned my head, I saw him still flowing towards me. Even the crowd parted up to make way for him. My heart started to beat fast. Now I started running.

“Run as much as you want," I heard him saying in his firm, threatening tone.

“But once I get you, it will be over for you," he threatened me while trying to catch me. How far will I manage to go with my legs? He is chasing me with his horse. He will end up catching me. Suddenly a man appeared on his horse in front of me. I thought it was one of the demons. My eyes widened because it was the end for me, but before I could do anything, I was swept off my feet, and now I was on a horse while an army general was chasing me. My front touched his, and an electrifying sensation ran all over my body. I looked up, and my grey eyes clashed with the golden one. His hood moved slightly, giving me a perfect view of his face in the last ray of sun. My breath hitched looking at his handsome face. I have never seen someone like him before. He looked at me for mere seconds, and I felt like. My work has stopped moving. A voice from inside me said a name that I had never heard before.

Achilles.
