Chapter 19 SERA'S DECLARATION
Chapter 19 SERA'S DECLARATION
Sera's POV
I couldn't let my sister die while the three men I cared about were tearing each other apart.
The IV in my arm hurt. My head was spinning. Ryker kept trying to make me lie back down but I pushed his hands away.
"We're going after Lila," I said. My voice came out stronger than I felt. "Right now. Before Cassia's guards get to her."
Kade stepped forward. His face was still bloody from fighting Damon. "You can barely stand. You need rest."
"I need my sister alive," I shot back. "Everything else can wait."
Damon was already moving toward the door. "Nova gave us extraction coordinates. Underground tunnels beneath the Genesis Center. If we move fast—"
"We're not moving anywhere until this gets settled," I interrupted.
All three men stopped and stared at me.
"Settled?" Ryker asked carefully.
I yanked the IV out of my arm. Ignored the sharp pain and the blood that welled up. Stood on shaking legs and forced myself to stay upright.
"Common area," I ordered. "All of you. Right now."
They exchanged glances but followed.
The common area felt too small for four people and all the anger hanging in the air. Kade stood near the window like a soldier on guard. Ryker positioned himself by the door. Damon leaned against the wall with his arms crossed.
All three of them watching me. Waiting.
I took a breath and made myself say what needed saying.
"I need to tell you something," I started. "When I came here, when the Tribunal dragged me to this facility and locked me in with three strangers, I thought I'd never feel anything for any of you. I thought I'd stay closed off. Do what I had to do to save Lila and get out."
Kade's jaw tightened. Ryker's expression went carefully neutral. Damon just watched with those dark knowing eyes.
"But I was wrong," I continued. My hands were shaking so I clasped them together. "You three made me feel things I thought died with my parents. Made me believe maybe surviving wasn't the same as living."
I looked at Damon first.
"You showed me I could still be vulnerable," I said. "That being scared doesn't make me weak. That feeling something real is worth the risk of getting hurt."
Damon's scarred face softened slightly.
Then I turned to Ryker.
"You showed me I could still think beyond just surviving one more day," I told him. "That my mind matters as much as my body. That someone could see me as more than just a breeder or a rebel. As a person worth knowing."
Ryker's analytical mask cracked. I saw emotion underneath.
Finally I looked at Kade.
"And you," I said quietly. "You showed me that strength doesn't mean shutting down emotion. That the most powerful thing someone can do is choose to feel despite everything the world does to break you."
Kade's hands clenched into fists. "Sera—"
"I'm not finished," I interrupted. "You three have been fighting over me like I'm something to be won. Like if you just prove you're better than the others, I'll pick you. But that's not how this works."
"Then how does it work?" Kade demanded. His control was cracking. "Because from where I'm standing, you're with Damon. You kissed him. You chose him."
"I kissed you too," I reminded him. "In this exact room. Does that mean I chose you?"
Kade went silent.
"And Ryker," I continued, looking at him. "I held your hand in the greenhouse. Told you that you mattered. Does that mean I chose you?"
Ryker opened his mouth. Closed it. Said nothing.
"The truth is I'm not going to choose between you," I said. The words came out clear and final. "Not because the Program says I have to accept all three. Not because the Tribunal matched us. But because I don't want to choose."
The room went dead quiet.
"I want all of you," I said. "On my terms. Not the system's terms. Mine."
Kade stared at me like I'd spoken another language.
"That's not how relationships work," he said flatly.
"Why not?" I challenged. "Because society says so? The same society that enslaved me? That murdered my parents? That treats women like breeding stock? You want me to follow their rules about love too?"
"It's not about rules," Kade replied. His voice was strained. "It's about reality. People don't just split themselves three ways and call it love."
"Maybe most people don't," I agreed. "But I'm not most people. And neither are any of you."
I moved closer to them. To all three of them standing in different corners of the room like they couldn't bear to be near each other.
"Damon, you told me you don't care what the system says," I said. "That I'm yours because you choose me. Well I'm choosing you back. I'm choosing the man who sees past my walls and doesn't try to tear them down. Just waits for me to open the door."
Damon's expression shifted. Something vulnerable and fierce at the same time.
"Ryker, you told me I was the one variable that didn't fit your equations," I continued. "That some things matter more than data. So stop trying to calculate this. Stop trying to make it make sense. Just feel it."
Ryker's hands were shaking slightly. I'd never seen him look so uncertain.
"And Kade," I said. "You told me you don't share. That you've never shared anything in your life. But maybe it's time to learn. Because if you walk away now, if you can't handle this, you're letting the Tribunal win. You're letting them control who you love just like they controlled everything else."
Kade looked like I'd punched him.
"This is insane," he said quietly.
"Probably," I agreed. "But what part of our lives isn't insane right now? We're planning a rebellion against the government. We're trying to expose a conspiracy that killed billions. We're fighting to survive in a system designed to break us. And you're worried about relationship conventions?"
Damon laughed. Actual laughter. "She's got a point, Commander."
"It won't work," Kade insisted. "Eventually someone gets hurt. Someone gets jealous. Someone wants more than their share."
"Then we deal with it," I said simply. "We talk. We fight. We figure it out. But we do it together instead of tearing each other apart."
Ryker stepped forward. "You're asking us to trust each other. To share you without competition or resentment."
"I'm asking you to try," I corrected. "I'm asking you to choose me choosing all of you. And if it doesn't work, if it falls apart, at least we tried something real instead of following rules written by people who wanted to own us."
The silence stretched out.
Then Damon moved first. He crossed the room and stood in front of me.
"I already told you I choose you," he said. "That doesn't change just because Kade and Ryker are part of the package."
Ryker came next. Slower. More hesitant.
"I've spent my life believing logic could solve everything," he said quietly. "But you're right. Some things can't be calculated. They just have to be felt."
That left Kade.
He stood by the window looking like he was at war with himself. Military training versus something deeper. Control versus surrender.
Finally he turned to face us.
"I don't know how to do this," he admitted. "I don't know how to share you without it destroying me."
"Then learn," I said. "With us. We're all learning."
Kade crossed the room. Stood close enough that I could see the blood still drying on his split eyebrow. Close enough to see the fear underneath his commander mask.
"If I do this," he said. "If I try. You have to promise me something."
"What?"
"That you'll be honest. That if it's not working, if I'm not enough or too much or wrong somehow, you'll tell me instead of just pulling away."
The vulnerability in his voice broke something in my chest.
"I promise," I said.
Kade nodded slowly. Like he was accepting orders from a superior officer.
Then he kissed me.
Not possessive like before. Not desperate. Just honest. Like he was choosing this. Choosing me. Choosing to trust.
When we broke apart, Damon and Ryker were both watching. I expected jealousy. Competition. The same rage that had them fighting an hour ago.
Instead Damon smiled. "Your turn next, Dr. Vale?"
Ryker looked startled. Then something in his expression softened.
He stepped forward and kissed me too. Gentle and careful and full of everything he couldn't say with words.
For the first time since arriving at this facility, I felt like maybe we could actually survive this.
Not because we were following the rules.
Because we were making our own.
The door to the common area exploded inward.
Guards flooded in. Six of them. Armed. Moving with military precision.
Behind them walked Cassia Laurent.
Her smile was cold and satisfied.
"How touching," she said. "All four of you together. This makes things much easier."
Kade moved in front of me immediately. Ryker and Damon flanked either side.
"What do you want?" Kade demanded.
Cassia pulled out a tablet. Showed us the screen.
It was surveillance footage. From the common area. From right now.
She'd been watching our entire conversation.
"I want to thank you, Sera," Cassia said pleasantly. "You've just confessed to violating Genesis Program protocol on camera. Inappropriate attachment. Emotional bonding outside approved parameters. Insubordination. And worst of all, conspiracy to circumvent breeding assignments."
She gestured to the guards.
"All four of you are hereby removed from the Genesis Program. Effective immediately."
My blood went cold.
"What does that mean?" I asked. Though I already knew.
Cassia's smile widened.
"It means you've failed. And failures in the Genesis Program have only one outcome."
She turned to leave.
"Execute them all," she ordered the guards. "Starting with the sister."
The tablet in her hand showed new footage.
Lila being dragged into an execution chamber.
And we had exactly thirty seconds before the door sealed and my sister died.
