HARPER
It's been settled. What I mean is that Skye is gonna stay here with us, while we attend the same college and while she does her part time thing at the nursery. I had to be truthful with Clara. I told her everything about my past and why I left. Fessing up wasn't easy but Skye left it up to me.
I know Clara is generous, but I didn't think it'd be to this extent. I mean, she doesn't even know Skye. She was so positive about her stay. When I asked her why she let Skye stay, all she had to say was that I needed someone from my past to ground me into the reality. Whatever that means.
Skye and I share a room. It's almost like old times again. I'm still trying to get used to the idea that my best friend is back and we're together.
Fine. Great.
I hear a small choked sound and I raise my head to see Skye staring at a figure behind me. I turn to see who it is. Now we're at the kitchen, and turning has me bumping into a stone of a chest. I just know it has to be Damien. Only Damien smells like this...
"Good morning," he tells me, stepping back a little, a smile on his face.
I stare at him and nod. "Yes, good morning."
He tilts his head when I don't stop staring and I immediately glance down at my feet. "That was... I'm sorry. I just..." Fuck. I'm stupid.
"I'll just make coffee. Want some?" He raises a brow.
"Sure." I nod and turn back to the stove. He leaves the kitchen and I drop my face into the warmth of my both palms and I eventually push my hair back while I sigh. What the fuck was that?
"He's hot." The female beside me says.
I roll my eyes. "I have eyes, Skye."
"Oh, sure you do. I just don't understand how you're living in a house with two incredibly handsome thirst traps and you're this cool when they walk by. By the way, the other one... I haven't seen him around for..."
My brows shoot up. "Believe me, you're not his type." The words leave my mouth fast and I gasp, just as Skye nods and she laughs. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean that."
"No, it's fine. Point duly noted. So... you're into the other brother? What about this one?"
I frown. "Damien is a flirt, you'd hate to go out with him. He's... good looking but that's it. Besides, look at you. Why would you need any guy to compliment you and stuff..." My voice trails off when I see the weird look she's giving me. "Look, you'll hate him okay? He's so not your type."
Skye keeps staring.
"I'm just saying that it'll be so weird." I add.
"How weird?"
I shrug. "They both asked me out and stuff... Damien and Xavier are into me. You can't just go out with Damien or Xavier."
Skye slowly pushes back her hair. "I can if you pick just one. You can't have both brothers, can you?"
"I'm not picking either of them. That doesn't mean you get a free pass to crush on guys who are into me. You are so into Ethan and both of you were so..."
"We broke up, okay?" She cuts me off, rather rudely.
"I know."
"Yes. And it's been months. Have I moved on? I don't know. But do I want to branch out and socialize with hot guys who look like they'd be handing out orgasms for free then... I'm very much down."
Wow. I exhale. "You can't go out with them if you're looking for a rebound or... or an escape mechanism to forget about Ethan." I sound really ridiculous at this point. "These are my guys, Skye. I care for them. You gotta respect that and just know that they are off limits for you."
"Okay."
I blink. Just okay? She's not gonna fight back? Argue with my insane logic? Well, if she isn't then who am I to plant the seeds of 'I have an insane bestfriend' in her head?
"Can I go upstairs and check on the baby?"
I nod. "Sure."
"And... Harper, if you want them both, I'd understand. I'm just saying... look at them." She gestures to a large photo of Damien and Xavier that's hanging off a wall on the long hallway.
I'm sure my cheeks are burning.
