Chapter 240
Chapter 240
Amelia took a deep breath. "Look, for Arian's sake and for your own good, if you want to move the grave, go ahead. I won't stand in your way anymore. You don't need to sneak around at night for this. No one's gonna stop you, not even me. After that, you can be with Arian all you want. You can tell him whatever you need to."
Aaron practically bolted, his exit hasty and clumsy.
Amelia sighed, rubbing her temples in frustration. She muttered, "I really thought someone as heartless as him could get by just fine. He's got money, friends, everything. Who would've guessed he'd fall apart so easily?"
Aurora sat beside her. "Maybe he just cared too much about Arian. But what's the point? The saying's true: the dead can't come back. If he keeps mourning, he'll never find peace."
Amelia stayed silent, her gaze fixed on the two nearly identical mounds of earth. After a long while, she suddenly squatted down, clutching her stomach, and burst into laughter.
Aurora looked at her, puzzled. "Are you okay? Did you get possessed or something?"
Amelia ignored her, laughing until she was out of breath. "Isn't it hilarious? Arian can't even rest in peace. Six or seven years later, his own brother, the person he cared about most, dug up his grave. I find it so funny. Don't you? If Arian had any consciousness left, he'd probably be furious."
"He deserved it. He lied to me, and I believed every word. Only later did I find out it was all a sham. Now look at him."
Amelia couldn't help but laugh again, tears streaming down her face.
Aurora was speechless.
She sighed. "That was ages ago. Why are you still hung up on it? Are you cursed like Aaron?"
Aaron, injured and disoriented, stumbled down the dark path, tripping over rocks and falling repeatedly, making his injuries worse.
In his panic, he ran into Katya, who had come to the mountain searching for him.
Katya's eyes filled with tears when she saw his battered state. "Aaron, are you okay? Who did this to you? Was it Amelia? How could she be so cruel?"
Lilly, who had come with Katya, looked serious. She frowned. "What do you mean by that? It must be because Arian did something awful. Amy wouldn't hurt him otherwise. Did you two get into a fight? How's Amy? Is she hurt?"
Having spent so much time with Amelia, Lilly's tone was uncannily similar to hers.
For a moment, Aaron almost thought Amelia was standing in front of him. A nasty idea popped into his head. "Yeah, we fought. She's bleeding like crazy. She can't even get up. You'd better go check on her. If you're too late, you might only find her corpse."
He continued stumbling down the path, while Lilly sped up, heading up the mountain. Katya hesitated, worried Amelia might actually be in trouble, and Aaron might have done something terrible. She glanced at Aaron before following Lilly up the mountain.
Meanwhile, Aaron's bad luck persisted. He hadn't gone far before he tripped again, hitting his head on a rock. Ants, drawn by the scent of blood, swarmed toward him.
Was he going to die?
Death might be a relief.
"Still, I never thought you'd actually agree to let Aaron move the grave. Are you serious?"
Aurora seemed puzzled.
The two women on the mountain leaned against a tree, too tired to move, processing their emotions before heading back.
Amelia nodded.
"Didn't you see? Aaron's not in a good state. If this keeps up, he'll be completely ruined."
Aurora sighed, shaking her head. "Those brothers, coming from the same family, are both insufferable. I can't stand either of them."
She ran her fingers through her hair. "I wish I could throw the truth in Aaron's face, tell him how Arian really died. It has nothing to do with you, yet you bear the brunt of his hatred. Why?"
Just then, they heard a faint noise. Two figures approached from a distance.
In the next moment, Lilly rushed over. "Amy, are you okay? Aaron said he hurt you badly, that you were bleeding nonstop. I was so scared."
Amelia scoffed lightly, not answering.
In the shadows, another figure joined them.
Katya's steps were slow, her eyes filled with disbelief from what she had just overheard.
Aurora lightly slapped her own mouth, cursing herself for speaking too quickly and forgetting about the others. "Did you hear what I just said?"
She silently prayed that Katya hadn't heard.
Of course, that was impossible.
"It's okay. Knowing is knowing. She won't tell Aaron anyway."
"Did you make that up? It can't be true. How could Aaron be involved? It was you, wasn't it? You killed someone, and now..."
"If I really killed someone, the cops would've come for me. How could things be like this?"
Amelia smiled slightly. "Believe it or not, it's up to you. But I think you shouldn't tell Aaron. It would be a huge blow to him. Don't you think?"
