Chapter 77 – Faking an Accident

Alex was sitting in the Rose Restaurant, waiting for Emily, and getting a feeling of Deja vu. But it wasn't just in his mind; it really happened before. But there was a huge difference between then and now. He was happy and excited to meet her that day. He was happy now too, but instead of excitement, there was worry swirling around his mind. He knew Emily would get angry at him. She would ask him many questions, and he would have to answer all of them. He couldn't let misunderstandings separate them.

After a while, Emily entered the restaurant, looking pretty in a light brown long skirt and black top.

Alex was wondering why she needed to come there, looking so pretty. He didn't want to talk about anything anymore or worry about what was going on in his life. All he wanted to do was take Emily somewhere and kiss, hug, and touch her.

Emily came to Alex's table and sat down in front of him on a chair.

"Hi." She gave Alex a small smile and put her purse on the table.

"You're looking stunning," Alex complimented her.

"Really?" Emily smiled, and Alex nodded.

"You're looking so sexy that I want to take you somewhere and eat you up," Alex smirked.

"Maybe we would do that if the situation were different. If you weren't going to be the father of someone's child," Emily taunted Alex.

Alex, who was in a good mood just now, felt like a heavy rock had fallen on his head. Just how could she blame him so easily? But if his mom, who had known him so long, couldn't believe him, how could he ask Emily to trust him? They never had any bonds outside the office. They didn't spend enough time together that he could ask her, "How can you doubt me?"

"I can understand what you are going through. But what you are saying isn't true. It's all her plan, and I don't know what her reason is behind this. We were always good friends, and just a month ago we met once again. She had left for Australia with her parents five years ago. I don't know what happened during this time that caused her to change so much. She wasn't like this before; she was always a nice girl. And that's why I always liked her." Alex told Emily everything.

"You liked her?" Alex said so much, but Emily paid attention to only one line.

"As a friend. I liked her as a friend. And there is nothing else I feel for her other than thinking of her as my good friend. But now I don't even feel that. I don't think she's my friend anymore." Alex expressed his thoughts.

Emily reached out her hand and put it on Alex's. "I don't know what is true or not, but I want to trust you."

"I thought I would come here to tell you that everything is over. There is nothing between us anymore. And just like that, all this will end. You will be with Natasha and the baby, and I will forget you one day. But I don't think I can do this. I can't let you go. Yesterday, I warned you that if you lied to me, I will not let you go easily. And I think it's true. I can't let you go. I can't let you leave me." Emily sighed and tried to take her hand away from Alex, but Alex held it in place. He didn't let it go.

"I don't want you to let me leave, either. And I can't let you go, too."

Emily smiled and said, "I don't know what will happen or how it will end. But I will stay beside you. Always. I don't know whether you are telling the truth or not; I don't care. I want to help you and see you happy."

Alex smiled and brought Emily's hand near his lips before kissing it. "I love you a lot, Emily. Thank you so much for taking my side."

Emily's heart started thumping, and she shyly withdrew her hand from Alex's grasp.

After they had their meal at the restaurant, Emily and Alex came out of the restaurant.

Instead of going back home, Emily and Alex went to a park near the restaurant and took a stroll. For a few minutes, the two didn't say anything but silently walked beside each other.

After a while, Emily opened her mouth and said, "So how are you going to bring the truth out? I mean, how will you prove that Natasha is lying?"

Alex smiled and said, "This is easy. Before I knew about the baby news, I didn't know how to prove myself right, but now I can do it. She said she has my baby, but if it's true, then a DNA test will tell all. I just need her to get a doctor to perform a DNA test, then everyone will know who is telling the truth."

Emily nodded upon hearing Alex.

"But there's something else happening as well," said Alex. He turned to Emily, and they both stopped walking.

Alex continued, "Mom is acting strange. The way the bandages are wrapped around her head and hands makes it seem like she's been seriously injured. But she's still talking and going about her day as if nothing's wrong. She even seems happy, smiling, and laughing."

Emily was surprised to hear it. Just how could someone who gets into an accident act so normally?

"Can it be that-" Emily hesitated to say it. She didn't know how Alex would react after hearing it.

"Yeah, tell me what you were going to say. Don't hide it." Alex grabbed Emily's shoulder and insisted she say it.

Emily looked away from Alex and said, "I'm not sure if I should say this, but I think your mom faked her accident."

Alex withdrew his hand from Emily's shoulder and looked at her, clearly upset.

Emily smiled and said, "I knew you wouldn't believe me, but when I was coming out of the hospital, I overheard it from doctors. They were looking at some papers and talking to each other about how someone can act out their accident. One was saying she is perfectly fine, but she wants us to lie to her son and husband and say she is badly injured. But then the other doctor said that they shouldn't care about it as long as they get money for it. I heard it clearly."

Alex moved his hand over his face, thinking something.

Seeing Alex looking so worried, Emily spoke up again: "Maybe I misheard, or they could be talking about another woman. You don't need to worry."

Alex nodded and took a step forward before hugging Emily. He rested his chin on her shoulder and closed his eyes. His heart was aching, and he needed warmth and comfort, which he knew only Emily could give him. "I don't know what's going on. Why is Mom doing this?"

Emily could see how troubled Alex was and tried to comfort him. "I could be wrong. You shouldn't doubt your mom without concrete evidence." Emily regretted telling Alex about it. But Alex had seen a change in his mother and believed she was behaving differently than before.

"I hope it's not true, but something's not right. She's changed a lot since meeting Natasha."

"Don't be sad. I'm here for you," Emily whispered and lightly patted Alex's back.

Alex smiled. He was happy that even when his world was falling apart, there was someone who would always be there for him.

"Thank you, Emily."
