Chapter 358 Oliver vs. Nicole — She Made the Right Choice
Nicole was surprised.
Who gave her this number?
Why was she calling her?
"Do you still want the courtyard?" Margot's tone was still stiff.
Nicole didn’t know how to respond.
“Lost your voice? Do you still want the courtyard?” Margot asked on the other end of the line.
Nicole nodded. "Yes!"
"If you want it, come over." Margot was about to hang up when Nicole stopped her. "Why are you suddenly willing to let me have it? A lot of people have offered good prices.”
Ignoring her, Margot simply hung up.
Nicole froze, then composed herself, and headed out the door.
Having learned her lesson last time, she decided to let at least someone close to her know.
She sent Oliver a message.
When she arrived at the old courtyard, Margot was sitting in a rocking chair, soaking up the sun.
“Sit down,” she said, lifting her chin.
Nicole sat down next to her.
Margot glanced at her. "Don't worry. I won't throw anything at you today. These organic eggs are expensive."
She handed Nicole the document on the table. "Take a look. If everything’s in order, just sign it. I’ve already processed the paperwork. If you agree, I can transfer the property to your name within the next couple of days.”
Nicole stared at the elderly woman in front of her and asked, “Why are you willing to give me the property?”
Margot said coldly, “Sign it if you want to, or leave.”
Nicole pursed her lips, took a photo, and sent it to Oliver.
Margot remained aloof as ever.
She left after Nicole signed the contract.
Nicole held the contract, feeling a bit dazed.

As Nicole read the comments on her phone, her eyes welled up with tears.
These comments proved that her brother wasn't the kind of person who'd commit heinous crimes.
Public opinion shifted instantly.
Her fingers trembling, she opened a video statement.
"I'm Lysander, and I'm speaking up for Dwayne..."
"My name is Odette, I'm speaking up for Dwayne..."
A dozen people came forward to speak on his behalf.

“Nicole.” Oliver drove over to pick her up, and only then did she wipe away her tears.
Seeing her reddened eyes, he asked, “Are you okay?”
"I'm fine," she said, “Did you see the news?”
"I did," he said.
"Why were those people willing to risk being talked about just to speak up for my brother?”
"Probably because he really is a good person."
“You’re the one who went looking for them, right?” Her voice carried a hint of irritation mixed with tenderness.
She reached out and touched his forehead. “Did you get hit there back then, too?”
Oliver nodded.
Shawn had told him that Dwayne must have helped many people.
If someone came forward, Dwayne might get a reduced sentence, and Nicole might not be so heartbroken.
It took Oliver a long time to track down these dozen or so people.
Some were willing to speak up, while others didn’t want to show their faces or reveal what they had done.
Oliver went to see them several times, hoping they’d help.
He’d encountered conflicts along the way; he’d even been beaten but didn’t fight back.
Eventually, some of them felt guilty and came forward.
“Are you crazy?!” Nicole cried, hitting him.
Oliver stepped forward and pulled her into his arms. "I'm not crazy."
"It's worth it—for you."

The next day:
A cold wind blew fiercely, and the lazy sunlight offered little warmth.
The chill swept past Oliver as he leaned against the front of the car.
The cigarette between his fingers had burned down a bit, and the ash scattered in the wind.
Nicole, Grover, and Bess walked out of the police station together.
Oliver stubbed out his cigarette and bent down to sniff his clothes.
Grover and Bess got into the backseat.
As Nicole walked over, Oliver draped his scarf around her neck.
He opened the passenger door, and she slid in.
On the drive back, the car’s heater blew a gentle breeze.
Oliver glanced in the rearview mirror.
Grover was holding Bess’s hand.
Nicole stared out the window, her hands clenched tightly.
At a red light, he reached over and took her cold hand in his.
She turned her head to look at him.
He smiled and rubbed his thumb against the back of her hand.
Grover and Bess watched from the backseat. Their hearts finally settled a little.
After dropping them off, Oliver drove Nicole up the mountain.
Rosalind had mentioned that Nicole liked to go up the mountain when she was feeling down.
Nicole sat on that old bench.
Oliver sat down beside her.
The two sat there, watching the sun sink.
It gradually grew dark.
Nicole shifted closer to Oliver and rested her head on his shoulder.
"Oliver," she called.
"Hmm?" he replied.
"I love you," she said.
"I love you, too." His hand reached around from behind her and wrapped around her waist.
She smiled and reached out to pull him close.
Thanks to Oliver, she knew the truth.
Dwayne was actually a federal informant.
He’d kept this a secret, even from his family.
He turned himself in because both Oliver and Shawn recognized him while they were in Country D.
He reported it to his superiors immediately, but Troy’s team moved just as quickly.
Fearing that Troy would send people to arrest him outright, Dwayne went to the police station on his own.
He hadn’t expected Oliver to help him.
Dwayne’s words were recalled in Nicole’s mind.
“Oliver’s a good guy—you made the right choice.”
