46. Stylist's advice
Sometime-she couldn't be certain of how long passed by when Netayah’s disturbed by the knocking at the door, then it was coming open to omit Anya into her bedroom. Respectfully bowing, appearing oblivious to the half-naked woman on the bed, she motioned towards the servants standing out in the hallway. At least a dozen different servants had been called to service toting inside the bags; clearly her massive wardrobe had finally been delivered.
Thrown into action at the thought that all the clothes had arrived, Netayah hurriedly lumbered out of bed, intending to help them put away her items. Anya held her hand out. “My lady, that won't be necessary. I'm perfectly capable of handling the chore of arranging your wardrobe closets, it's what I'm here for. Why don't you lie down for a rest? You look totally exhausted.”
Smothering the yawn that surfaced as if wanting to remind her of how tired she was, Netayah didn't think to argue the decision with the girl. Kindly thanking her for her assistance this afternoon, Netayah reached for the shirt draped across her bed and without thinking she pulled it over her head. Feeling worlds better now that she had the garment on, Xios's scent seeping into her pores, she scrambled underneath the drenched blankets. Sighing wistfully as the scent of her mate enveloped her, feeling calm and relaxed as she hadn't for too many years to count, Netayah fell asleep.
She was brought awake sometime later that afternoon by the sunlight streaming into her bedroom, someone having opened the burgundy curtains. Stretching arms over her head feeling refreshed as she hadn't in a long while, Netayah lumbered out of bed, feeling none of the tension she was used to. Having nothing pressing that needed to see her attention she wandered ideally around her apartment suit, trotting down the steps in the living room.
Curling up on the L-shaped couch, loving the whole setup of the room, she reached for one of the books on the shelf and got down to reading. It had always been a favorite pastime of hers, having been more of the studious type, but her failure to shift on time had changed all of that. Leisurely reading was for people that had the time to sit on their asses all day doing absolutely nothing, she'd never been granted the same pleasure. Quickly she banished those thoughts before they could take her to places she simply didn't want to think about right now, refusing to allow her past to define her future.
“My lady?”
Her head snapped upwards to spy Anya towering over her on the couch, having become so engrossed in the book she'd failed to acknowledge her coming in. She smiled. “Is there something I can do for you?”
“Dinner my lady,” she replied.
Frantically whipping her head around at the maid's statement, her eyes widened as she caught the clock hanging up on the wall. “Oh my goddess, I didn't realize so much time had passed. The book....doesn't matter now.”
Anya frowned. “Where are you off to?”
“To make dinner,” Netayah felt the need to explain herself to the woman, frantically scanning her mind for a way out of the mess that she'd made of the night. Hopefully Xavier and Xios aren't too distressed at having a late meal.
Anya giggled.
She frowned. “What's so funny?”
The maid slowly shook her head. “I do not mean to offend you and I am very sorry if you've taken offense of my laughter, but it is not you that needs to worry about dinner. The Alphas have already seen to all the arrangements.”
That stopped her. “They have?”
“Oh yes my lady,” Anya was quick to assure her, a smile spread across her face and happiness glowed in her green eyes. “The two of them have been running amuck all afternoon, getting everything ready, wanting dinner to be absolutely perfect.”
“Really?”
“Yes,” she agreed, “now you must get ready.”
Finally understanding what had compelled her personal servant to come to her apartment suit, Netayah followed her upstairs to her bedroom. Moving towards the closet that had been meant for her new wardrobe, she had to admit that Anya had done a magnificent job in arranging everything. She wouldn't have done it any differently than the woman had, further proof she'd made the right choice for her personal servant, they thought along the same lines.
"So what should I wear," she thought aloud.
"Try one of your sundresses, or maybe this little green number," Anya pulled out the particular dress that she was talking about then, holding out for the inspection of the one to give her a chance to decide.
Netayah looked at the green dress the maid had presented to her as an option, surprised that this would be the one that she'd have chosen for the evening. “Isn't that a little...you know...fancy?”
Anya smiled tenderly. “It is clear that you are in unknown territory?”
She eagerly nodded to prove how out of her element she really was, as these were steps she'd never considered herself to ever have to take.
“Trust me, my lady, the men will absolutely fall all over themselves if you were to show up in this, that's if they weren't already doing that.”
She frowned. “They are?”
“Yes,” the maid carried on with the conversation, as she continued to scrutinize the vast wardrobe that was presented to her tonight. “You have no idea how incredibly happy your appearance in their lives has made them. My k--alphas have waited a very very long time for you, both had begun to fear they would never find their intended mate and now that they have their beside themselves with joy. Neither can wait until it’s all official.”
Netayah was overwhelmed at the knowledge of what Anya was currently telling her, never having imagined it possible. Now she was being faced with the reality that all of their happiness rested upon her own shoulders and the decision she'd make for their future. Wanting to show them just how excited she was to have been chosen for their mate, a happiness she was only beginning to understand, she chose the green number.
