Chapter 121 Congratulations on your first child
Chapter 121 Congratulations on your first child
Quin's POV
I woke up before Tyler which felt like a win. For the past few days it was the opposite.
But this morning his breathing was slow and even beside me. The pain medication was taking a toll on him. The doctor had prescribed it after his shoulder injury. It helped him sleep, which was good. The problem was that it gave him an excuse to sleep even more.
I rolled onto my side and studied him. His hair was a complete mess, sticking up in every direction. His mouth was slightly open. One arm was tucked beneath the pillow. The sling was still carefully wrapped around his injured shoulder. A faint bruise remained visible near his jaw. And despite everything, he was still the most beautiful person I’d ever seen.
I reached out and brushed a strand of hair away from his face. He immediately frowned in his sleep.
“Five more minutes.”
I smiled. “You’re asleep.”
“Still five more minutes.”
I laughed quietly. He wasn’t even awake. For a moment I simply just watched him. The past week replayed through my head— Seeing Tyler tied to a chair, the slap, the way Lucas had touched him, the way Tyler had thrown himself through a damn chair. Honestly I count that as seeing a version of Jealous Tyler. I promised to try not to make him jealous ever. Even now my jaw clenched just at the thought of him, I still wanted to kill Lucas. A very reasonable reaction in my opinion.
Tyler shifted slightly. I forced myself to relax. The nightmare was over. Luca was gone and Tyler was back in my arms. That should have been enough, yet every time I closed my eyes I still saw that room, heard Tyler’s voice and even the time from the hospital. I could still see that terrifying moment when I wasn’t sure I’d get him back. My chest hurts. I wasn’t handling this nearly as well as everyone thought.
Tyler stirred again then opened one of his eyes. “Why are you staring at me?”
I smiled, “Because you're beautiful when you drool in your sleep.”
“I do not drool in my sleep.”
I lift my phone up."I have picture evidence you know."
“I’ll divorce you.”
“We’re not even married properly yet.”
“Even better, I could just pack up and go.”
I grinned. He was fully awake now. “You okay?”
“I’m fine. You're the one who almost needed stitches, not me.”
“i don't believe you're fine. And for the two hundred and fifty two times stop reminding me about my poor but reasonable life choices.”
I sighed. “Go back to sleep. You're being too serious this early morning.”
“You already ruined my sleep. So tell me what's wrong."
I groaned. He smiled triumphantly. “Talk.”
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
“You’ve been weird since we got back from your parents place.”
“I’ve always been weird. And we got back last night.”
“You know what I mean.”
Unfortunately, I did. I looked away. For several seconds neither of us spoke. Then I felt his hand find mine beneath the blanket. I squeezed it automatically.
“Quin.”
I closed my eyes. “I thought he was going to do something terrible to you.” The words came out before I could stop them. Tyler didn’t interrupt, he just listened.
“I know.”
“I thought he'll make you watch him...” I couldn't finish the words.
His fingers tightened around mine. “But I didn't, and stopped him from going any further.”
I swallowed. “Im glad that we're okay, but I hated the fact you thought for one second that you were at fault.”
"Hey." He whispered, pulling our hands from under the sheet to place a kiss on mine."You made me see why it's not my fault, you should know it's not yours too. It's not our fault psychos are obsessed with us, you know."
I couldn’t help smiling. “Obsessed with us?”
“Yes. But mostly you.”
His lips twitched. Then his expression softened. “Even in a weird situation we still found eachother .
I leaned forward and kissed his forehead. His eyes closed immediately. Only few days ago I was talking him out of self guilt ,but here I was doing exactly the same.
By noon, Tyler had become unbearable.
“Can I go out for a drive?”
“No.”
“Can I work at least or go shopping?”
“A solid No."
He glared but I ignored him and continued reading my email. The glare intensified. “You’re enjoying this way too much.”
“ I can't help it.”
“Monster.”
“Doctor’s orders.”
“You’re not a doctor.”
“No, but I pay enough doctors to know what they said.”
He groaned dramatically. Cassie walked into the room, took one look at him, then immediately turned around. “Nope. Not today. I’m not dealing with that energy.”
Cassie and Jake practically lived at our place now, because they believed if they took Thier eyes off of us we'll disappear again.
“Cassie!”
She kept walking. I laughed. Tyler threw a pillow at me. It missed completely.
By evening I escaped. I loved Tyler more than anything or anyone in the world, I just needed a few hours where nobody complained about being bored and doing things he shouldn't be doing while injured.
Jake called while I was driving. “How’s the patient?”
“Super annoying.”
“So I guess he's all better then.”
“Hebwants that so badly so can terrorise me more.”
Jake laughed making me laugh too. A week ago none of us were laughing. Jake was probably loosing his mind finding us. I owed him more than I could ever repay.
“You doing okay?” he asked.
“Getting there. It's a working progress.”
“Good. Tyler keeps talking about making a spreadsheet for all your EXs” I groaned. Jake laughed so hard he nearly choked. “He told me all about it.”
“Please don’t encourage him.”
“No promises.”
An hour later I found myself standing outside a pet store. Which was ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. I had no business being there. Yet somehow I’d stopped anyway. Because earlier that day Tyler had spent more than twenty minutes watching pets being adopted by queer couples. He thought I hadn't noticed, but I did. The memory made me smile. Before I realized what I was doing, I walked inside.
Big mistake. A very big mistake. Because puppies existed. Tiny, fluffy and ridiculously cute. One of them waddled directly into my shoe. I looked down at it imagining Tyler's resction
“Oh no.”
The employee laughed. “First-time puppy victim?”
“I don’t own a dog.”
“well, I guess You do now.”
“yeah. I guess so.”
The puppy bit my shoelace. I sighed. Few minutes later I was signing paperwork.
This was all Tyler’s fault. Entirely Tyler’s fault. I wanted that clearly documented, because I never would have gotten a dog on my own.
The puppy sat beside me in the passenger seat sleeping. I glanced over at It as it snored. I immediately took a picture for blackmail purposes. Obviously.
By the time I got home, the sun had already started setting. The mansion was quiet. I carried the small crate through the front door. The puppy remained asleep. Lucky thing. Tyler’s reaction would probably wake the dead.
I headed upstairs. The bedroom door was partially open. Inside, Tyler sat cross-legged on the bed. A laptop balanced awkwardly on one knee, the sling still wrapped around his shoulder. His tongue stuck out slightly in concentration. I smiled. Then pushed the door open.
Tyler looked up. “There you are.”
“Miss me?”
“Nope. Why would I.”
“Liar. I know you do.”
“Ok maybe a little.”
I walked further into the room. The crate remained hidden behind my leg, while Tyler's eyes werefixed on mine. He narrowed his eyes. “Why do you look suspicious?”
“what do you mean?"
I couldn’t stop smiling. His suspicion increased immediately. “What did you do?”
“Nothing.”
“Quin.”
I set the crate down. His eyes widened Slowly. Then dramatically he gasped.“No.”
I grinned. “Oh yes.”
The puppy woke up. A tiny bark escaped. Tyler froze completely. He looked from me to the crate then back to me. His mouth fell open.
I finally lifted the puppy into my arms. The little thing yawned, tiny pink tongue curling. Tyler made a sound, a weirdly honestly embarrassing sound. I walked closer and placed the puppy carefully into his lap. The puppy immediately curled against him, pressing its small warm body into the fabric of his shirt. Little shit forgot I was the one who brought him home.
Tyler stared down at it. Speechless. Such a historic moment. I sat beside him, careful of his injured shoulder, and wrapped an arm around him. His eyes were still locked on the puppy.
“Quin…”
I smiled. The words I’d been holding back all evening finally slipped out. “Congratulations.”
He looked at me, completely confused. I nodded toward the sleeping puppy. A grin spread across my face. He puppy looked lively frome the store but it looked like it needed a lot of rest. Cut little thing.
“Congratulations on having your first child.”
Tyler’s eyes immediately filled with tears. And just like that—I knew I had absolutely made the right decision.
