Chapter 635 Hurry Up
As I walked up to Victoria, I made sure to get a bit closer, knowing the height difference between us would be more noticeable the nearer I got.
Victoria caught on and subtly shifted away. She then started introducing the other guests. Since I was new to Everglade City, I didn't recognize any of the names she mentioned, except for the last one—Matthew.
But when Victoria called out Matthew's name, I didn't see him anywhere. It was only by following everyone's gazes that I realized he was coming out of the jewelry store.
Seeing Matthew stirred up a mix of emotions in me. He, on the other hand, looked at me with a calm expression, like I was just another person. It made me feel uneasy.
Victoria smiled and walked over to Matthew, and to my surprise, he smiled back at her. They stood together in the center and began the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"Ms. Johnson, it's time to cut the ribbon."
A staff member behind me whispered a reminder, seeing that I hadn't moved.
"Alright."
I refocused, picked up the scissors, and cut the red ribbon in front of me.
A large crowd surged into Aurora Glow. Having completed my role in the ceremony, I didn't want to stick around and watch Matthew and Victoria chatting happily. I signaled to Maria that I wanted to leave. But when I found Maria, she was standing next to a handsome man who looked about the same age as Matthew and equally attractive, which made me take a second look.
"Ms. Johnson, hello. I'm Mr. Matthew Taylor's assistant, Jonathan Taylor."
I was taken aback by his name. He shared the same last name as Matthew, and looking at Jonathan, he did bear a resemblance to Matthew. Could they be brothers?
"Are you and Matthew brothers?" I asked, incredulous.
Jonathan gave an awkward smile and rubbed his nose. "I figured you'd ask that, Ms. Johnson, but no, Mr. Matthew Taylor and I aren't related by blood. I'm an orphan."
Despite Jonathan's denial, I still preferred to believe that he and Matthew were brothers. They just looked too similar.
"By the way, Ms. Johnson, Mr. Taylor asked me to tell you to wait for him."
Hearing this, I glanced back into Aurora Glow. From my angle, I could see Matthew laughing and chatting with Victoria.
Annoyed, I said, "If you want to wait, you wait. I'm busy and can't wait around. Maria, get the car."
Maria nodded and turned to get the car. Impatient with her slow pace, I called out, "Hurry up."
Sensing my anger, Maria started jogging.
"Ms. Johnson, if you leave, Mr. Taylor will blame me," Jonathan said, trying to block my way.
I smiled and patted his shoulder. "Whether he blames you is between you two. Don't drag me into it. Goodbye, Jonathan. Nice meeting you."
As I got into the car, I waved goodbye. I could see Jonathan was genuinely worried about me leaving, but he didn't dare to forcefully stop me. In the end, he just stood there, helplessly watching me go.
After leaving Aurora Glow, I had nothing to do and didn't want to go back to the office, so I told Maria to drive aimlessly. We ended up by the river, where I leaned against the car window, staring blankly at the water.
I didn't know how much time had passed when Maria reminded me that my phone was ringing. I snapped out of my daze and saw that it was Matthew calling. Not wanting to talk to him, I hung up. He kept calling, and in my frustration, I turned off my phone.
