Chapter 64

Olivia.

"Logan won't see the good side of me today," I muttered, staring at my phone. I was certain I had heard a female voice on the other end. Where could he have gone? He doesn't know many places around here.

"Cut that poor man some slack. Must he always be with you twenty-four hours a day?" Jamie hissed as she took a sip of her lemonade. We had stopped at a restaurant, and I was suddenly craving the "hungry man size" meal we had last time with Logan. I was still eating when I decided to call Logan and ask if he wanted me to order takeout for him, but that's when I heard the female voice.

"Yes! He's supposed to be. He's my husband after all," I replied, tossing her a glare. Jamie's visit had been sudden, but it came at the right time when Grandma was playing hard to get.

The way I had broken down in tears earlier had touched her deeply. I didn't understand why Grandma was being so stubborn about not wanting the kidney transplant. I had even begged the doctor to let me be her donor. I just want my grandmother to be fine. Thankfully, she hadn't directed her anger at Logan, possibly too overwhelmed by my crying. Then Jamie had burst through the door, and we both cried together.

"I don't know how Logan handles an emotional woman like you. The way you cried earlier, one would have thought you lost your baby," Jamie remarked.

"Whatever. It still won't change the fact that you like me as your best friend that way."

"I don't like you," she retorted, rubbing her palms on her stomach. "I'm damn full. This restaurant should get an award."

A smile crept onto my face. "I know, right? These are the kinds of places the government should support. Anyways, it can't beat my husband's cooking skills. Customers swarmed the restaurant earlier today."

"Really? Why doesn't Logan open a restaurant down here? I'm sure he'd be popular in no time."

"I suggested that to him too. But he said he won't have time, probably due to work and taking care of me," I emphasized the last word, tucking my hair behind my ears.

I received a glare from Jamie in return. She shook her head, clearly amused. "Are you trying to mock me? As the only single woman, you've been calling him 'my husband this'."

I chuckled at her statement. "If you're angry, go get married."

"I see this pregnancy has changed you in many ways. I will definitely get married one of these days. Just wait and see," she warned, pointing a finger at me. My laughter widened. I enjoyed pushing her buttons.

"Make me your bridesmaid."

"How can a fat pregnant woman be my bridesmaid? Nah, I don't want to spoil my wedding."

"Are you calling me fat too? You want to be like Logan. He called me a pumpkin and tomato!"

"Are you calling me fat too? You want to be like Logan. He called me pumpkin and tomato!" The next thing that followed was her laughter.

"I swear if you don't shut it I will pour this water on you." I threatened reaching for the glass. She knows very well I can do that.

"Okay, I won't laugh. But did he seriously call you that?" She asked. There was still a hint of smile on her face. "Seeing you up close you look like one." She added her eyes accessing my body.

"Jamie!" I yelled out grabbing the glass cup. Jamie jolted up and aimed for the door. "Get back here!"

I was about to pour the glass of water on her when it splashed on a different face. Logan's familiar face greeted me, his eyes shut as the water soaked into his skin.

"Oops, wrong move," Jamie spoke from the door. "I'm heading back to the hospital first. See you guys," and she ran off.

My eyes shifted back to Logan, who by all means seemed quite upset. Well, he had every right to be. I had splashed water on his face. "I—" I began to apologize, but he cut me off.

"Is this why you called me?" he asked calmly, though I knew deep down he was holding himself back.

"Not really. I—" I tried to explain before I remembered I was supposed to be angry at him. "Yes. Who is she?"

"Who was who?" Logan asked, wiping his face with a handkerchief. We walked out of the restaurant.

"The woman you were talking to? What was her name... El—"

"Oh, you mean Eliza," he replied, his lips curving up. I stopped walking and squinted at him. "Don't give me that smile, or I will kill you," I warned, which caused his eyes to slightly widen at my outburst.

"You want to be a widow so badly?" Logan teased.

I rolled my eyes and continued walking. "Wow. A widow with a baby bump," he added, appearing next to me.

I didn't answer him or even cast a look his way. "This is actually a rare occurrence," he went on again, making me look at him, or more accurately, pass him a glare.

"Don't talk to me," I shot at him, but his smile only widened, further irritating me. Can't he see I was pissed? Yet, he was using his charming smile to try to calm me down.

"If I don't talk to you, who will I talk to? You're the only person I have and know here," he said, his voice sounding softer, which made me let my guard down.

He was right. He had left his work and followed me all the way here. The least I could do was appreciate the gesture. I stopped walking and opened up my arms. "Come here."

"Now she's acting sweet," he mused, getting into my embrace.

I ran my palms on his back. "I'm sorry for reacting that way on the phone and for splashing water on you. I know you have a lot of work back in the city, but you left it to be with me. I really appreciate that, Logan. What would I do without you in my life?"

"Absolutely nothing." We stayed in that position for a while before Logan pulled away.

"I spoke to the family on my way here. They're already back at home. They're extending their greetings to you."

"Really? They really enjoyed their trip."

"Definitely. All thanks to you. We'll call Amelia later. For now, let's go see your grandma."

He intertwined our hands, but I held him back. "Are you sure you can handle her wrath? She doesn't want you around."

"Don't worry. I know how to melt her heart. Just trust me." I couldn't help but chuckle.

"Alright then. Lead the way."

"Grandma, we're back," I announced as we entered her room.

"Must you sing it like a song?" Grandma shot me a glare.

I shot a dirty look at Jamie, who was holding herself back from laughing. She wouldn't like what I was going to do to her later. "What are you eating without me?" I asked, sitting on the bed.

"Why do you care? You're busy going around with that troublesome man," Grandma said, looking at Logan.

"I know I have a troublesome husband," I giggled. The look Grandma gave me was enough to make me compose myself. I signaled Logan to come forward.

"How are you feeling now, Grandma?" he began. Damn! If only I could get a picture. For the first time, I got to see a nervous Logan.

Grandma cleared her throat before answering him. "As you can see, I'm doing well. You still don't want to listen to me, acting all stubborn," she said, casting him a sidelong glance.

"I'm not as stubborn as you, grandma," Logan replied, causing my eyes to widen. Jamie and I exchanged looks.

"What? Are you trying to say I'm stubborn?" Her voice was now raised. "Because I allowed you to enter this room, right? Did you hear the person you call your husband? He wants my blessing yet he lacks respect!"

"Grandma, you didn't—" She cut me off by lifting her hand.

"I don't want to hear any excuses. I know you will defend him. See, he's even smiling." She added when Logan's lips curved up into a smile.

I now understood when he said he knows how to melt her heart. He sure knows how to handle the situation.

Logan stepped forward and signaled me to give him space to sit. I wasted no time in complying. Maybe he would manage to talk some sense into her to go ahead with the transplant, and maybe he might win her heart over and get her blessings.

"What are you doing?" Grandma shot when Logan occupied the space I sat before.

"It looks like Logan wants to have a word with you, Grandma," I said with a light smile.

"I don't have anything to say to him. Leave."

"I'm not moving an inch from here, Grandma. And you're going to listen to what I have to say." Her eyes widened at his words.

"You—"

"Yes. I'm determined to make you. Olivia and Jamie, can you excuse us, please?" Logan ushered.

"Sure." Jamie stood up from where she was sitting, while I leaned over to his ear and whispered, "Don't go easy on her because she won't go easy on you either. Make me proud. All the best."

"What are you whispering to him?" Grandma smacked me on my back. I grinned in return before sauntering to the door.

"See you in a bit, Grandma. Take care of my husband." I waved before closing the door. I hoped things would go smoothly.
