GLITZ AND GLAMOUR

GLITZ AND GLAMOUR

Madison’s POV

London!

The driver started the car and that was when reality struck me. I was leaving New York, for good. As the car swerved down the road, I couldn’t help but wonder how we would get to London. I knew it was impossible to get there from New York by land due to the Atlantic Ocean so perhaps a ship was waiting.
But then, why would my parents pull up such a convoy just because they needed to get me to shore?
I sighed and eased my back more comfortably on the car seat. Maybe it’s time to accept my reality and enjoy it.
“Have you been in an airplane before?” My mother demanded.
I turned to her with my raised brows. My father was seated directly opposite us.
“A plane?”
She blinked.
I’ve seen pictures of planes, read about them, and was aware that it’ll take a lot of effort to get on one.
“Well, we’re heading to the airport. A private plane awaits us,”
I couldn’t believe my ears. I turned to my father. “Are you guys even real?”
Excitement flushed all over my face as the reality of sitting in an actual plane wavered in my mind.
“When we found you, we needed to get here as soon as we could and sailing would take days so we decided to just buy a plane and now, we will get to travel at our own time and comfort,” my father supplied.
I almost sprang from the car seat. “You guys bought a plane?”
They laughed.
“Oh my God!” I cupped my mouth with both hands.
How rich can these people be?
“You can’t blame us,” my mother said. “We would do anything for our daughter,”
“And the cars? How are you going to get them back to London?” I asked.
My father cleared his throat loudly. “They were rented. We will leave them at the airport. In seven hours, our official convoy will be at the London airport to welcome us,” he said.
I couldn’t believe my ears.
“I’m struggling to sit through this ride,” my mother sighed and then shook her head dramatically. “The limo is an old model and it’s so cheap,”
I blinked.
She smiled. “I can’t wait to bathe you in luxury my child. You’ve missed out on your heritage for so long so it’s time to get what you deserve in double folds,”
I smiled and fell back on the car seat.
Time to enjoy this life perhaps.

We reached London around 5pm and just like my parents said, there was a convoy waiting for us at the airport.
Cars made up of models I had never seen before were parked in a row, waiting for us to emerge and by the time we came forward, a handful of guards and maidens came to meet us.
My parents and I were led into a black G-wagon and after we were settled, the car took off.
My mother, who wouldn’t leave my side turned to me. “Welcome to London. Welcome home,”
I smiled, trying to assimilate everything that was going around. First, I found out that my parents were nobles and then they were wealthy and now, I just learnt that they bought a plane and possessed a convoy of the most exotic cars that had come to pick me up.
As the car swerved down the road, my mother cleared her throat loudly and turned to me. “We planned a little something for you. I hope you don’t mind,”
“What’s that?”
“So we invited a few guests,”
“Okay..” I slurred.
“Maybe a few dukes and duchesses with other noble families to officially welcome you home,” my mother added.
The hairs on my neck went up. “Sounds like a lot,”
“You’re precious,” my father interjected. “You might not understand what this means to us but for a moment, I lost hope. I never thought I’d see you again and now that fate has reunited us, we must show the universe that we’re grateful and that’s why we organized a welcome gala,”
I swallowed hard. If they had asked for my opinion, I would have suggested I take a week off to fully recover from the surgery, get acquainted more with them and then maybe we could organize the gala but right now, I wasn’t sure if I was down for this but like they mentioned, I might not understand what this means to them.
“Sounds cool,” I faked a smile.
The car finally came to a halt. The glasses were tinted so I had no idea where the vehicle was parked.
“Home sweet home!” My mother said.
I felt my heart banging in my chest. I shut my eyes for a moment, took a deep breath, and opened my eyes. There was nothing to be bothered about. It’s just a welcome gala.
The car door was flung open and it exposed security guards lined up from the car to the entrance. My father stepped out of the vehicle and then reached for my hand.
I took it, smiled, and alighted. My mother followed.
The car door was pulled shut and then we turned around.
I stopped in my tracks, completely swooned by the spectacle in front of me. There was a house, a castle surrounded by a vast green land.
The house was the largest I’ve ever seen and trust me, Michael’s residence though big and grand could fit in here 5 times.
My father cleared his throat loudly. “Welcome to the Worthington house my child. Our family has lived here for hundreds of centuries,”
I swallowed and looked at the various car models parked around the house. Two young maidens about my age immediately came forward. They held their gowns and bowed.
“Welcome home, my lady,” the women chorused.
My mother cleared her throat loudly and presented them to me. “This is Elis and Tasha. They’ve been trained at the Queen’s home in England. They will be your handmaidens,”
“Hello,” I managed to speak. Anxiety was already creeping onto my face.
None of them lifted their heads.
“We must get inside. Our guests have arrived,” my mother said.
The handmaidens immediately gave way and then sauntered behind us as my father led me toward the mansion in front of the house.
“I know this is a bit too much so please let me know if you’ll want the guests to be excused,” he said.
I turned to him. “Of course not, papa,”
He smiled.
I was exhausted and right now, I’d love to lie my head more than anything else but then what’s wrong would meeting a few guests?
