CHAPTER 12A

"Well?" Angela urged

"You see, Gela," he began, his voice brimming with excitement,

"I orchestrated an opulent surprise for Aurora. Envision this: a candlelit dinner set on a secluded beach beneath a celestial canopy of stars. The ocean's gentle waves serenading us, as I knelt before her and poured out my heart, declaring my boundless love. It was as though we had stepped into a fairytale world, where love and magic intertwined, creating an enchanting moment of pure, unbridled romance."

Angela gasped, her eyes brimming with excitement. "Oh my goodness, that's so incredibly romantic! You're such a hopeless romantic, Xavier."

Xavier chuckled, feeling grateful that his sister had embraced his embellished tale.

"You know me, Gela," he confided, a warm smile gracing his lips. "I couldn't resist the urge to sweep her off her feet, creating a moment that would etch itself into her heart, something she'd treasure for a lifetime."

Alex interjected, weaving into the conversation.

"Oh, and you should see the ring he chose for her. It's truly something spectacular, shimmering like the very stars. It was impossible for Aurora to resist."

Xavier's head whipped toward Alex, and glared at him, a silent threat that conveyed he'd address this with his friend later on.

Angela's joy erupted into an enthusiastic squeal, her imagination already spinning tales of elegance and beauty.

"I can't wait to see i!"

Xavier smiled, a tinge of guilt weighing on his heart.

He wished he didn't have to lie to his sister about the proposal to Aurora. But for now, he had to maintain the illusion, protecting his sister's innocent joy.

As Angela chatted about the imaginary proposal details, her eyes suddenly lit up with curiosity.

"Bro, how did you meet,"

Xavier, realizing he couldn't escape this moment, attempted to sidestep her question.

"Angela, I really need to start getting ready for the ceremony," he began, hoping she'd drop the subject.

But Angela's persistence was unwavering.

"No, no, Bro," she insisted, her eyes sparkling with intrigue. "Please, tell me how it all began. I'm dying to know!"

For a few moments, Xavier was stumped, caught between the web of deceit he had spun and Angela's genuine curiosity. But he couldn't bear to let his sister down. So, he sighed and weaved another lie, this one about the fictitious chance encounter with Aurora that he had manufactured to please Angela.

Xavier, his voice taking on a tone of nostalgic warmth, began to spin the tale of their fictional encounter.

"Well," he started,

"it all happened on a warm summer evening at a charity event. I was there, and so was Aurora, as fate would have it. We crossed paths by the grand fountain, both of us admiring the shimmering moonlight on the water. I remember she was wearing this stunning emerald-green gown that seemed to glow in the dark, and her eyes, Angela, her eyes were like two deep pools of mystery. We struck up a conversation about the stars and our dreams, and from that moment, I knew there was something truly special about her."

While Angela continued to gush about the fabricated proposal, Xavier seized a moment of solitude. His thoughts drifted inexorably toward Aurora, a woman he scarcely knew yet was on the cusp of marrying. A tumult of unease washed over him, a turbulent blend of uncertainty and anxiety.

Inwardly, he grappled with the unsettling fact that he had told his first lie to Angela, all for the sake of Aurora.

She would bear the consequences of his actions, and it wouldn't be gentle. The clock was ticking; in just an hour, he'd be reciting his vows to a woman he was connected to by family arrangements but not by heart. The fairy tale he had woven felt like a distant dream, far removed from the harsh reality that awaited

Aurora the moment she said, "I do.

As he continued to weave the tale, Angela was utterly captivated, hanging onto his every word, blissfully unaware that this story was just another thread in the intricate tapestry of lies.

As the story unfolded, Angela's eyes widened in awe, hanging onto Xavier's every word. She was completely captivated, her imagination painting vivid scenes of romance and enchantment.

The sincerity in Xavier's voice, coupled with his animated gestures, made it difficult for her to question the authenticity of the tale.

Xavier couldn't help but appreciate Alex's playful support, even though it added an extra layer of challenge to his task. But as he witnessed Angela's joy-filled expression and her genuine belief in the story, he knew that, for this fleeting moment, the weight of his impending marriage seemed a little lighter.

Xavier's story reached its climax, the room filled with laughter and delight, painting a picture of love and happiness.

"I am so happy for you, Bro," she exclaimed, her voice overflowing with genuine joy and enthusiasm.

"You, my big brother, deserve all the love and happiness in the world," Angela exclaimed, her eyes brimming with sincerity and pride.

"I'm genuinely happy that Aurora has become a part of your life." Her words carried a weight of authenticity, a genuine expression of sisterly love and support.

Xavier tried to muster a smile, one that concealed the doubts and uncertainties bubbling just beneath the surface. He hoped that his facade would suffice to protect Angela's enthusiasm, shielding her from the painful truth he couldn't bring himself to reveal.

Xavier hugged his sister tightly, holding back the truth and burying his own reservations. In that moment, he vowed to protect her from the harsh realities of his impending marriage, to shield her from any worries or doubts.

For Angela's sake, he would maintain the facade, playing the role of the hopeful groom even as his heart yearned for a different path.

Xavier's nervous fingers fumbled with his tie, frustration evident in his furrowed brow. "Damn this tie," he muttered under his breath, his anxiety threatening to get the better of him. Each attempt to set it right seemed to tangle the knot further.

"Breathe, bro, breathe," Angela encouraged, her voice soothing, as she stepped in to rescue him from the tie that seemed determined to evade his control. She took over the task with her delicate fingers, approaching it with a mix of unwavering affection and determined expertise. Her hands moved with precision, coaxing the tie into place.

As Angela worked her magic, her whispered words of encouragement wafted to Xavier's ears.

"You've got this, Bro," she assured him, her tone brimming with unwavering support.

"You look fantastic."

Xavier's shoulders relaxed, his sister's comforting presence and capable hands serving as a reassuring anchor amidst the turbulent sea of his nerves.

In the corner of the room, Alex couldn't resist the temptation to steal a glance at his reflection in the mirror. His grin was brimming with self-assuredness, and he couldn't resist making a playful remark to himself.

"I look very dashing," he mumbled, winking mischievously at his own reflection, his tone teasing as he jested about his own charm. He smoothed down his jacket with a satisfied air.

Alex couldn't help but tease Xavier further and add his own twist to the jovial banter. With a playful grin, he chimed in, "I look even more dashing than the groom. Don't blame me if Aurora decides to elope with me," he quipped, his tone filled with humor as he smoothed down his jacket.

"I wish," Xavier mumbled quietly, a half-hearted comment that went unheard amidst the laughter and teasing.

Angela, however, was determined not to let Alex's self-praise stand unchallenged. With her hands placed firmly on her hips, she narrowed her eyes in mock seriousness as she chimed in with her own playful remark, delivering it with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"That will only happen if Aurora is blind," she asserted, a hint of jest in her tone,

"Because today, there is no one more handsome than my brother."

Alex responded with mock hurt, his hand placed dramatically over his chest.

"Gela, you wound me!" he exclaimed, joining in on the laughter and jokes that flowed freely between the two siblings.

As the light-hearted banter continued, Xavier watched the clock ticking away, his anxiety simmering beneath the surface.

Unbeknownst to the playful banter inside, William watched from the doorway, his eyes shimmering with tears of pride as he observed his children, moments that would be etched into his heart.

"Dad, why are you standing there?" Angela asked, her eyes gleaming with excitement as she hurried to his side. She latched onto his arm and pulled him toward Xavier. "Dad, isn't bro the most handsome groom you've ever seen?"

A tender smile graced William's lips as he responded with undeniable affection.

"Indeed he is, my dear. Indeed he is." He joined his children, enveloping Xavier in an embrace that held all the love and pride of a father.

William's heart swelled with an overwhelming sense of paternal love and pride as he enveloped Xavier in yet another tight, affectionate hug. "I'm so proud of you, son," he whispered, his words carrying the profound weight of a father's love and pride.

Leaning in closer, William whispered words meant for Xavier's ears alone, shielded from Angela's hearing. "Thank you, Xavier. Thank you," he murmured, his voice filled with gratitude. "For doing this for your old man."

Xavier nodded in response, his heart torn between the love he held for his father and the lingering bitterness over the circumstances that had led him to this moment.

A faint sniffle in the room caught the attention of both William and Xavier. They turned to see Angela, teary-eyed. Xavier moved purposefully toward his sister, concern etched across his face. He gently took her by the arms, steadying her as he looked into her eyes.

"What happened, Gela? Are you okay?" Xavier inquired, his voice laced with genuine concern.

Angela, still wiping away her tears, offered a warm but teary smile.

"I'm more than okay," she replied, her emotions overflowing.

"My brother, is about to tie the knot. Since Mom passed away, we haven't had much to laugh and smile about. But seeing you settling down and leaving your old ways behind just made me so sentimental."

Both William and Xavier were moved by Angela's heartfelt words. "Oh, Gela," they said in unison, drawing her into a warm family hug.

Not one to be left out, Alex, who had been watching the emotional exchange, playfully called out,

"You forgot about me!" He joined the family hug, adding his laughter to the mix of emotions that filled the room.

In that moment, Xavier made a silent promise to himself. He would do everything in his power to protect his sister's happiness, even if it meant hiding his own doubts and fears. As he rejoined Angela, he couldn't help but feel the weight of the charade upon his shoulders. The road ahead was uncertain, but for now, he would play the role of the eager groom, masking his own conflicted emotions beneath a facade of joy.

As they parted ways, Xavier's smile faded, replaced by a lingering unease that gnawed at his conscience.

Each step toward the ceremony felt heavier, burdened by the weight of the lies he had woven. Deep within his heart, he silently wished for a twist in fate, a chance to uncover Aurora's true intentions and expose her for the gold digger she might be.

He longed to prove to his father, and to himself, that his instincts about this forced alliance were not unfounded.

Determination flickered in his eyes as he braced himself for the uncertain journey ahead, fueled by a relentless desire to unveil the motive hidden beneath the veil of this marriage and the girl Aurora.
