CHAPTER 11A

Aurora looked at the floor, barely holding back her tears.

Thomas glanced at his watch.

"Very well then. Don't dare waste another moment, for the hour approaches swiftly when I shall reluctantly accompany you down the wretched aisle. Ensure you're ready without delay," he commanded, his voice oozing disdain and impatience.

"And do cover those hand marks on your throat, we wouldn't want anyone to question my integrity," he added before abruptly exiting the room.

Aurora's gaze met her own reflection, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Memories of her parents flooded her mind, their absence a constant ache in her heart. She longed for their guidance, their comforting presence in this moment of uncertainty.

"I-I w-wish you w-were both h-here," she whispered softly, her voice filled with a mixture of longing and sadness. "W-why did y-you have t-to leave s-so soon? I f-feel lost, s-scared in t-this u-unfamiliar sit-situation. I n-need your s-strength, your l-love to g-guide me t-through t-this."

Her fingers gently traced the delicate pearl necklace, a cherished memento from her mother. She closed her eyes, seeking solace in their memory, imagining their comforting embrace enveloping her.

"P-please, k-keep w-watch-watching over m-me," she pleaded, her voice carrying a tinge of desperation. "P-pray for me, t-that the l-life I am a-about to e-embark upon w-will un-unfold in goodness. P-pray that X-Xavier and I-I can f-find c-common g-ground, t-that we c-can at l-least b-become f-friends, if n-nothing m-more."

In the quiet stillness of the room, Aurora felt a glimmer of hope ignite within her. She believed that her parents' spirits were with her, that their love would guide her steps on this uncertain path. With renewed determination, she resolved to face the challenges ahead, drawing strength from the love that transcended time and distance.

Taking a deep breath, Aurora opened her eyes and met her own gaze once again. She would carry her parents' memory in her heart, cherishing their guidance as she navigated the uncharted waters of her future. With their silent blessings, she would strive to create a life that held love, joy, and fulfillment, even in the face of adversity.

Aurora's eyes glistened with unshed tears, her heart yearning for a different fate. She longed for a connection, for a love that transcended societal expectations. The weight of her impending marriage pressed upon her, stifling her dreams, suffocating her desires.

With a heavy sigh, Aurora composed herself, her gaze fixed upon her reflection in the mirror.

She reminded herself of the strength she possessed, hidden beneath layers of duty and sacrifice. Today may be a day of forced union, but she vowed to herself that she would find a way to navigate this unfamiliar territory, to carve out a future that held more than just empty vows and shattered dreams. She would try to make this marriage work, not for the sake of her uncle's ambitions, but for her own self respect.

**********

Xavier's reflection stared back at him, a mix of frustration and resignation etched across his face. He tugged at his tie, feeling its constriction around his neck like a suffocating noose. "I can't believe this is happening," he muttered under his breath, his voice laced with exasperation.

Xavier gazed at his reflection in the mirror once more, attempting to soothe his frazzled nerves.

"Buddy, relax," Alex's voice rang with a reassuring tone, cutting through the tension in the room.

"Just take everything one day at a time. Believe me, if there is anything incriminating against Aurora, I will find it. I promise you." His words carried the weight of a heartfelt commitment, earning a grateful nod from Xavier. It was a moment of camaraderie, a shared understanding of the importance of the day ahead.

In an attempt to lighten the mood, Alex couldn't help but chuckle at Xavier's predicament.

"But I have to say," he teased, a mischievous twinkle in his eye,

"this whole thing is quite amusing, my friend. Who would have thought the great Xavier Knight would ever find himself walking down the aisle?" His laughter was infectious, and it served as a temporary escape from the gravity of the day that lay ahead.

Just before Xavier could form a response, the door to his room swung open with a swift motion, shattering the moment of contemplation. Bursting into the room, a strikingly beautiful young woman carried an aura of boundless excitement.

With a sense of palpable anticipation, she rushed towards Xavier, her excitement propelling her into a tight, enveloping hug. The energy in the room shifted instantly as the unexpected visitor disrupted the tranquility of the moment.

"Bro!" her voice pierced the air, charged with infectious delight. Her effervescent energy couldn't be contained as she leaped into Xavier's arms with an almost gravity-defying enthusiasm.

"I just had to see it with my own eyes! When Dad told me you were getting married, I nearly fell off my chair. So, spill the beans, Xav! Who is she? Where did you meet her? Was it love at first sight? Oh, wait, it must have been! My man-whore brother wouldn't settle for anything less, right?"

The room was instantly awash with her lively presence as she bombarded Xavier with her inquisitive, teasing questions.

Alex, with his signature mischievous grin, seized the moment to tease Xavier.

"This is quite a twist, isn't it? The infamous Xavier Knight, the eternal playboy, suddenly ready to settle down? Who would've predicted that?"

Xavier's patience dwindled under the relentless jesting.

"Alright, Alex, that's enough!" he snapped, the unexpected outburst betraying a tinge of irritation. Angela watched in mild surprise, noticing her brother's annoyance.

"Bro..." Angela began, her confusion evident.

Xavier swiftly composed himself and affectionately jabbed his best man in the stomach, prompting a feigned groan from his friend. With a light chuckle, he explained, "He's been making fun of me ever since I proposed."

Xavier's face lit up with a warm, genuine smile as he redirected his focus to his sister. He wrapped his arms around her, enveloping Angela in a tight, affectionate embrace, savoring the joyful reunion.

"I've missed, Gela," Xavier confessed, his voice brimming with a warmth that bespoke affection.

"I missed you too, Bro," Angela responded, her words echoing the deep bond between them.
