Chapter 175 Morals
Chapter 175 Morals
ALEXANDER POV
“Is that all?” I asked, my voice dipping lower, testing her. “Is that the only reason you came to my house? To bring Liam?”
She stared at me, her gaze lingering on my face for several long, agonizing seconds. I actually felt a rare wave of self-consciousness hit me under her stare, wondering if she was looking at the patch and finding me less of a man. If she found me monstrous.
“I wanted to see if... if you were okay,” she whispered.
A massive, genuine grin broke across my lips at her words. The cold darkness in my chest evaporated. She still cared. No matter what she said, she still worried about me.
“So,” I murmured, my voice turning thick with anticipation, “did you bring back my eye?”
My happiness turned utterly sour within a millisecond. My head literally spun as the warmth vanished from her eyes.
“Actually... no, I didn’t,” she said flatly.
The rejection hit me like a physical punch to the gut. My jaw clenched so hard the muscles ticked violently under my skin.
What the hell did she mean no? She didn't bring it? She wasn't ready to forgive me?
“Alexander, we need to talk,” she said, her tone shifting into something terrifyingly serious.
For fuck sake. This wasn't going to be good.
“I’m all ears,” I gritted out through clenched teeth, my fists tightening inside my pockets.
“Not out here,” she whispered, her eyes darting toward the hallway where Liam had gone. “Liam might walk back in and see us.”
“My study, then,” I said darkly.
I turned and led the way down the corridor. If it were up to me, I would have dragged her straight into our master bedroom, locked the door, and stayed there for a week. But looking at the rigid, severe line of her shoulders, rushing her into bed might be the least of my fucking problems.
The moment we reached the heavy mahogany doors of my study, I pushed it open for her. She stepped into the dimly lit room, the scent of leather and old paper filling the air. I locked the door behind us.
I leaned my back against the edge of the heavy desk, crossing my arms over my chest as I watched her. “I’m listening.”
Anastasia stood in the center of the rug, her hands trembling slightly against her thighs. She took a deep, shaky breath, looked me dead in my single eye, and shattered my world.
“I can’t be with you any longer, Alexander.”
I raised a single brow, forcing my face to remain an unreadable mask of stone despite the absolute panic clawing at my throat.
“Why?”
“Why?!” Her eyes went incredibly wide, her voice rising in a pitch of pure disbelief, as if I had just asked the most absurd, ridiculous question on the planet.
“Yes, why?” I demanded, leaning forward, my voice dropping to a dangerous, low growl. “Why don't you want to be with me any longer? Give me a fucking reason, Ana.”
She shook her head, rolling her eyes so hard at my sheer audacity that she practically gasped.
“Why? Maybe we should start with the fact that you are a deranged, unhinged psychopath who literally handed me his bloody eyeball the exact second he escaped death!”
I blinked. Shit. I honestly thought it was romantic. It was a blood vow.
“What else?” I asked, completely unfazed.
She stared at me like she wanted to violently bounce across the rug and punch me squarely in my jaw. “You are not a good person, Alexander! You’re... you’re too toxic. Everything about you is toxic.”
I slowly leaned away from the edge of the mahogany table, my boots making no sound against the rug as I stalked toward her. My single eye never left her face. As I closed the distance, her gaze frantically darted down, locking onto the heavy, thick bulge growing aggressively inside my pants. Her throat swallowed hard, a visible tremor passing through her chest as she stared up at me.
Good. I wasn't the only one in heat in this room. She wanted me just as badly as I wanted to ruin her.
I stopped directly in front of her, the tips of our boots touching. The second my shadow fell over her, her entire body tensed, her breathing turning ragged.
“I am an unfeeling bastard, yes,” I murmured, my voice deep, rough, and vibrating against her skin. “I lack morals. I know exactly what I am, Ana. But for you... I am willing to learn. Whatever the fuck you want me to do, I will do it. The exact second you told me you hated the Brotherhood, I walked away from it and never looked back. I will learn how to have morals, Ana. I will learn how to be whatever you need, if it means I get to spend the rest of my life with you in peace.”
Anastasia shook her head, tears of frustration gathering in her eyes. “You don't get it, Alexander. My dad is arranging our permanent divorce papers as we speak. The family lawyers are already on it. I can’t be with you.”
The mention of her father instantly shattered my restraint. A blinding, murderous fury flashed through my single eye, my veins turning to liquid fire.
“I’ll kill him,” I snarled, the words tearing from my throat before I could even stop them. “He can’t take you away from me. He dares fucking try it. I will end him.”
“This is exactly what I am talking about, Alexander!” she screamed, flinging her hands in the air, her entire body shaking with pure, unadulterated frustration. “You always want everything your way! You don't care about the consequences, you don't care about the laws—now you’re casually standing here telling me you’re going to murder my father!”
“Yes!” I shouted back, stepping closer until our chests were practically colliding. “I will kill anyone who tries to rip you away from me! I don't give a fuck who they are!”
