Chapter 73
Noah was everywhere. He was working up and he was working down. His previous department still called him a few times to ask some questions about what to do and what to not do. He was under a lot of pressure. Mark walked by and dropped a cup of milkshake for him.
Noah was more than grateful. His head was starting to heat up and he needed something cool. Without wasting time, he gulped it down and suffered a few minutes of brain freeze. When he recovered, he felt a little calm. Slowly, he began to go through the documents Landon had sent to him for the umpteenth time with the caption errors.
He read it carefully and was only able to spot a few errors which he felt Landon could have spotted. He corrected them and forwarded them to Landon again.
Landon sat quietly in his office when his computer beeped. It was an incoming mail from Noah. He checked to see that the grammar had been corrected. He smirked. Noah was a lot like Carly. Maybe he could keep the man as his assistant. His main purpose for doing that was so that he could indirectly keep tabs on Carly's life to know whatever it was that she was up to.
He could not always ask Martin as Martin would keep quiet most of the time. He sent an approval for the mail and he could literally hear Noah breathe in relief. He remained in his seat when he began to hear a light commotion outside. Scowling, he pressed the telecom button and before he could speak, he heard Rose's voice echo through the telecom.
He took his hands off and sent an email to Noah saying that he didn't want to have any visitors. He should tell everyone that he wasn't around.
Noah got the mail and smirked at Rose. "I'm sorry miss, the boss isn't around."
"Oh, so he removed that sorry girl he left here and replaced her with an even more sorry person," Rose said. "Can you imagine that, Dorris?"
Dorris chuckled. "I have no idea why you even bother lying. We saw his car downstairs."
"You must be blind then," Noah said. "Boss has been away since thirty minutes ago. Maybe you should get some glasses and go back to check."
Dorris got enraged by the direct insult. "Are you calling me blind?!"
"Not exactly," Noah said. "But if the buckled shoe fits, then feel free to wear it. Nobody's judging."
Dorris turned to Rose who also looked equally embarrassed. "I'm going to see my brother and have him fire you." She threatened.
"I'm scared." Noah said. He ignored them and focused on his work. Rose felt more infuriated. She wanted to destroy the computer he was working with. She was having a hard time controlling her anger.
She walked past to knock on Landon's door. As she knocked, she heard no sound. She knocked again and then tried to push the door. It didn't budge. She peeped through the hole and saw that he wasn't behind his desk and his desk was neatly arranged.
Realizing her folly, she slowly returned to Noah's desk. "Where did he go?"
Noah didn't respond as he was engrossed in trying to make a perfect document for Landon. Rose and Dorris were the least of his problems. Even if Rose was Landon's mother, for the fact that she had embarrassed his friend, Carly, he was bound to do even worse to her.
"I'm talking to you!" Rose yelled and slammed the desk. Noah raised his head without taking his gaze off the computer screen.
"What?" He asked.
Dorris scoffed. "C'mon, Rose, let's go. This man's obviously playing with us. Maybe you should call your brother and tell him we're in his company and his assistant won't let us in."
Rose rolled her eyes. "You think that if I could contact him that I would be here bantering words with his animal?!"
"It's only an animal that could understand the language of another animal." Noah murmured.
"What did you just say?" Rose demanded. "You seem to not enjoy working here huh? Maybe you don't even want to leave with dignity, you want to be chased out in humiliation right?"
Noah shrugged. "It doesn't matter how I leave, if I do put girls like you both in your places, I'll always feel content."
Rose nodded. "I'll see what Landon has to say about it. Dorris, let's go."
Dorris eyed him and joined Rose in walking away, their heels clanging against the tiled floor with each step they took.
Noah looked up after they had left. He hissed very audibly. He was beginning to feel even more enraged. Especially by Dorris's presence. Dorris had caused a lot of pain to Carly and if not for Landon, he would have hit her for even showing her dirty face at the company.
Landon came out a few minutes after they had gone. He glanced at Noah.
"Well done." He praised him. "You have done well today, I think you are more than fit for the job."
"Huh? Sir, aren't you mad at me for harassing your guests?" Noah asked. He was surprised that Landon had praised him rather than scold him.
Landon scoffed. "Rose is my sister, but she is very spoiled. Dorris however, I don't care."
Noah nodded, distracted. He couldn't understand why Landon seemed to be different. Maybe he could finally know why Carly wasn't at work.
"Sir..." Noah called. "What about Carly?"
Landon paused. If he told Noah that he fired Carly, it might affect the way he worked for him and he needed Noah on his side so that he could keep tabs on Carly.
"Sir...?" Noah asked again.
Landon turned away. "She quit." He said and shut his office door.
