Chapter 70
Carly picked her phone and dialled Martin's number. He picked at the third ring.
"Carly, what's the matter?" Martin asked. "Are you in danger?"
"No." Carly sobbed. "Landon fired me."
Martin was silent for a while. "See me tomorrow."
"Okay." Carly whimpered. Martin ended the call and she dropped the phone and bowed her head on the dining table.
Landon was equally hurt. Seeing her break down at the dining, pouring her heart out through silent tears and being comforted by his chef made him feel bad about himself. He was about to go and tell her that he could forgive her. But he could not trust her anymore. She had hurt him several times. She had constantly lied to him and broken his trust.
She had been with Tristan when he called her and she said she was at home. Not until she was kidnapped. And even after saving her and sending her home, he asked her where she was and she said she was at home. Next thing he knew, she was having an office romance with Noah.
Even if he didn't catch them in the act, their new found friendship was not ordinary. He couldn't just let it slide. Now, she even had the guts to join the secret agency and couldn't tell him? Even if she was asked to keep it a secret from him. She could have just told him and told him that it had to be a secret.
How well would he have taken it either way? Which one was his problem? Was it her joining or her keeping it a secret? Landon thought hard. Of course, it was her keeping it a secret from him. Although she had her life, she owed it to him, severally. He saved her parents, she owed him 12 million dollars. He gave her accomodation and a well paying job.
Something she couldn't easily afford for herself in California. Even without having the qualifications, he had granted it to her. Yet this was how she chose to repay him. By constantly lying and breaking his trust severally.
He watched her and his eyes soon started to harden at the sight of her. His hurt and pain gradually turned into anger. He turned and entered his room, slamming the door very hard.
The sound of his door jolted Carly in fright and she sniffed. Obviously, she had lost everything. She got up and went into her room. She packed every single thing she had into her bag. After packing, she left the house silently. Although it was too early in the morning, she didn't want to stay anymore. She couldn't stay. If she did not mean a single thing to Landon, she also could not remain in his house.
Carly came out and was lucky enough to find a cab that took her first to the company. She was able to get past the security since they didn't yet know that she had been fired. She went to her office and took everything that belonged to her there. After that, she left and entered the cab. The man then drove her to Jasmine's house.
As Carly tried to pull out her things, the cab man helped her out. She paid and he left. Carly found her spare key to the house and got in. As soon as she entered, she was attacked by Jasmine. Jasmine began to yell at her and then stopped abruptly when she noticed that Carly was in tears.
"Why are you crying?" Jasmine asked, toning her voice down.
Carly didn't respond, she just left her things at the door and walked into the room. She lay in the bed and curled up, crying her eyes out. Jasmine locked the door and pulled her bags into the sitting room. She then went to the kitchen and made a relaxing tea for Carly.
"Here, drink this." She said, "It will relax your nerves."
Carly shook her head. "I don't want to take anything. I... I can't."
Jasmine sighed and sat on the bed with her. Without saying anything, she pulled Carly in a hug and allowed her to cry on her shoulder. Carly poured out her emotions in the form of tears and didn't stop crying until the mid morning when she eventually slept off. Jasmine lay her in the bed and covered her up. She glanced at the mug of tea that had gone cold.
"Oh well." She said, She picked it and drank the entire cup. After that, she double checked the door to see if it was locked, then she went to sleep as well.
Jasmine was awoken by the sobbing coming from the other side of the bed. Groaning silently, she turned to find Carly wide awake and crying again.
"What the hell, Carly? How long have you been up? Crying again?" Jasmine demanded. "You had better wipe those tears and tell me what happened."
Carly took a deep breath and wiped her eyes. "Landon broke the contract."
Jasmine scoffed. "Shouldn't you be happy? You don't owe anybody your life."
"He fired me and sent me away from his house." She added. "Landon said he cannot house someone he doesn't know."
Jasmine sighed. "And that's why you're crying? Girl, you can always get a better job with a better looking boss who will treat you better!"
"Better?" Carly whispered.
"Yeah, you deserve better!" Jasmine said. "And I'm here to ensure that you do get better. So, go in and have a shower and dress up. You're going to go out with me and have some ice cream!"
Carly was pulled up from the bed by Jasmine and forced into the bathroom. She had no choice but to shower and came out not long after. Jasmine had already prepared clothes for her to wear. Sighing to herself, she began to dress up.
