Episode 28
Victor Kane's voice crackled through the comms, sending a wave of shock and confusion through the team. Nadia, her heart pounding in her chest, ignored the revelation for now. Her focus remained on rescuing her mother.
Following the trail of sounds, she finally reached a heavily guarded cell block. Through a small window, she saw her mother, frail but defiant, glaring back at a burly guard. Nadia knew she had to act fast.
Taking a deep breath, she signaled Raven via their encrypted communication channel. Raven, ever-resourceful, hacked into the security system, disabling the cameras and unlocking the cell block doors. With a burst of adrenaline, Nadia stormed into the cell, knocking the guard unconscious in a single, practiced move.
Tears welled up in her mother's eyes as they embraced, the relief palpable. But their reunion was short-lived. "We need to go," Nadia whispered, her voice filled with urgency. "This place is about to get messy."
Meanwhile, Alexander and Raven stared in disbelief at the young woman strapped to the table. Her features were unfamiliar, but the fear in her eyes mirrored Nadia's own ordeal. This was another victim of Project Lazarus, another pawn in Cerberus's twisted game.
Before they could formulate a plan, the airlock door hissed open, revealing Victor Kane, a cruel smile plastered on his face. He was flanked by a team of heavily armed guards, their weapons trained on the intruders.
"Well, well," Kane drawled, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Look who decided to join the party. I should've known you couldn't resist a good old-fashioned rescue mission."
Alexander, his eyes narrowed, demanded answers. "How are you alive? And what have you done to this girl?"
Kane chuckled, a chilling sound that echoed in the sterile lab. "Let's just say Project Lazarus has undergone some…improvements. And as for your friend here," he gestured towards the young woman, "she's just a test subject, a potential new asset for Cerberus."
The revelation stunned them. Victor Kane wasn't just resurrected; he seemed to be a puppet master pulling the strings at Styx. He was a walking experiment, a symbol of Cerberus's ambition to create an army of enhanced individuals.
Suddenly, a deafening alarm blared throughout the facility. Sarah Davies's investigation had drawn more attention than anticipated, throwing Styx into pandemonium. The guards outside the lab exchanged confused glances, unsure of who to prioritize.
Seeing an opportunity, Raven sprang into action. With a series of rapid keystrokes, she hacked into the facility's security protocols, triggering a controlled lockdown. The guards outside the lab were locked in, creating a temporary window of escape.
"This way!" Nadia shouted, grabbing her mother's arm and leading her towards the exit. Alexander and Raven followed close behind, the young woman from the lab still unconscious in Alexander's arms.
A frantic chase ensued. They weaved through corridors, dodging guards and security checkpoints as the facility descended into chaos. Victor Kane, enraged by their defiance, roared orders through the comms, determined to stop them.
Just as they reached the exit, a familiar figure emerged from the shadows – Nightingale. She had managed to infiltrate the facility through a different route, anticipating a potential confrontation. With a team of her operatives at her side, she provided much-needed firepower, allowing them to escape the chaos.
They burst out of the facility's back exit, the night sky a welcome sight after the sterile confines of Styx. Helicopters buzzed overhead, searchlights slicing through the darkness. There was no time to celebrate their escape; they needed to vanish, to regroup and assess the situation.
Safely on board Nightingale's extraction helicopter, they finally caught their breath. Nadia held her mother close, relief washing over her. But the victory felt hollow. They had escaped with their lives, but the fight was far from over.
Victor Kane was alive, and he seemed to be a leader within Cerberus. They had a new face to put to the enemy, a face that filled them with a chilling sense of dread. And the question of Uncle Darius remained unanswered – was he still alive, and if so, was he friend or foe?
The battle lines had been redrawn. Their fight for justice had taken a sinister turn, forcing them to confront a threat more dangerous than they could have ever imagined. As they soared away from the illuminated complex, they knew one thing for certain – the war against Cerberus had just begun.
