Chapter 93 Why didn't you tell me she's in danger?
"Huh?" I was too shocked to comprehend what just happened... Somehow, Nova might have met my mum, but what of the auction? Why would she sound so hostile when I only asked her about the auction? Could Nova have met her during it??? It seemed like -
I froze when a certain thought filtered through my mind. What Nova went to the auction? That would explain the huge amount of money she spent. Was she there because of my mum? Was that why she asked if I sent my wife over to counter her every move? Was she the one who got the prized item my mother wanted?
A chuckle escaped my lips at that thought, and I had to cover my mouth when I received a glare from the man next to me, who was looking at me as if I were a pervert. He shuffled far from me, giving me a stern glare.
"Sorry." Apologizing, I turned and left the restroom, walking over to Nova's private room. A few nurses I met on my way nodded at me with a smile, which I reciprocated, something that wouldn't have been possible had it been the time I rushed Nova to their hospital.
Halfway to the room, my phone started ringing. This time. I chose to ignore it. I knew the only people calling would either be my director or my clients, and I wasn't in the mood to answer any of them. It wasn't until the person called for the 3rd time that I checked the caller ID, only to realize it was an unsaved number. I contemplated answering the call for a few seconds before I did.
"Hello?" I stopped at a waiting chair, and plopped down on it, crossing my legs. I didn't wish to take the call to Nova's room, to disturb her rest.
"Where the fuck is Nova???" came a familiar booming voice from the other end. "Why is her phone switched off? What did you do to her?!" He yelled, his voice almost deafening.
"And who the fuck are you?" I gritted out, despite knowing who it was. Brion Marshall was the only one who would call me and start sounding that way about Nova. He was, after all, my rival. "Where is she?" This time his voice was low, laced with enough venom, almost like he was planning on where to hide my body after getting rid of me. "Where did you keep Nova? Why is her phone switched off?"
"And what is your concern about that? Nova is my fucking wife. You have no right to ask me, the husband, about it!" I fumed, barely controlling my rage. "What is it to you that we do at home? Why do you even think I will tell you where she is??" Having him call me at a time like this made me wish to storm over to his house, to demand his head. I only let him be because Nova held him in high esteem, else I would have let him know what I do when tried.
"Where i
Nova? I need to speak with her. It's urgent."
"What do you want to tell her? You can relay the news to me, and I will give it to her," I offered, the least I could do for him at the moment. Since he said it was time-sensitive, it must be so, seeing how he sounded.
"I need to speak to her. This is for her ears alone. Do you think I would have called if her phone was on?" He demanded, his voice taking an edge once more. "Can I speak with Nova? If you can't pass the phone to her, ask her to switch her phone on," he said, commanding me.
"I'm afraid that won't be possible. Nova is "I paused before I could tell him about Nova's state. Since he didn't want to tell me why he called, there was no need to tell him mine.
"What happened to Nova? Why did you pause? Is she okay?"
"Why did you call?" I asked once more, this time keeping my tone as neutral as I could. "I don't owe you an explanation, since you don't owe me one. You just -"
"Her kids are asking for her. I promised to take them to meet their mum when they return from school, but now I can't reach her. I'm worried she's in danger. Her -" "Why do you think so?" My ears perked at those words. "Has there been a recent development?"
There was a lengthy silence from his side before I heard him sigh, almost like he had made up his mind to respond to my question. "Her car was tampered with twice, and -"
"Why the hell didn't you tell me?!" I boomed, pissed they had kept something of this manner from me. "Why didn't Nova tell me? Why keep something of this nature from me when she knows her life is in fucking danger?!" Had I known about this, I wouldn't have let her walk alone, not when her life was in danger!
"She didn't want to tell you. Not only that, but she refused my suggestions to let someone trail her. She believed it violated privacy, so I didn't... Wait a damned minute, why am I even telling you about this? It's not as if you care."
"Why won't I care when she's my wife?? What do you mean by that? Had you told me about this, I would have prevented this disaster!"
"Disaster?" He sounded alarmed, his voice rising, his breathing doing the same. "What the fuck happened to Nova!"
