Chapter 86 Why did you send someone to tail me?
Brion cleared his throat, acting a bit too theatrical at the moment. "I just got information about an auction."
"And?" I was eager, trying to rush him to tell me more about his plans. "What about the auction? Who is hosting it? How do I get back to my ex-mother-in-law through it?"
"Now you are impatient to know," he teased, loving it. "Tell me, what do you think I have in mind?"
"Brion," I warned, letting him know I wasn't in the condition to have any mind games with him. He had already caused me to forfeit my sleep, just to listen to him. I wasn't in the mood to beat around the bush with him. I might have done that had he called in the afternoon. We would have had enough time for his mind games.
"Okay, I will tell you. Your ex-mother-in-law is the most influential person going for the auction."
"And?" I still didn't get it. From what he said, I couldn't even tell where he was heading with his suggestions. "What are your plans? I mean, how do I get back at her? By knowing about the auction? I doubt it."
"You will have to go to the auction," he stated like he had mulled over this for a long time before letting it out. "There's rare jewellery and a painting, which I'm certain your ex-mother-in-law is going for. If you can purchase the items, snatching them right from under her nose, I bet you will have the revenge you have always craved. What better way to show her how much you have matured than this?"
"You have a point there." I placed my hand under my jaw, thinking of what he said. Successfully purchasing the things she wanted to get would mean getting back at her. Even though it would seem like a childish way, it would help me draw her attention to myself.
"That's what I thought when I was told of the auction. If you need money, just let me know. I will provide you with enough to cripple her."
"I doubt that will be necessary." Just like Brion, I had gotten an idea of whose money to use for the auction while listening to him. "I won't use your money or mine. I have the right candidate in mind."
"Who?"
"Dashiell."
"Dashiell? You can't be serious. Didn't you say you wanted nothing to do with him? Why do you want to use his money to fight his mum? Isn't that like taking his money?" He sounded confused. "Not at all." A small smile crept up my lips the more I thought about the auction. "I will use his money against her. What better way to rub it in her face than to use her son's money? She called me a gold digger. I will let her know how a gold digger behaves."
"Oh, I get it now."
"So, how brilliant is it?"
"Excellent."
Grinning, I told him more of my plans and how I intended to use them against Dashiell and his mum. Since my 'kind husband' has been begging me to use his money, I will oblige him by using it to fight his mum. He would only know about it after I had completed my mission.
....
Dashiell didn't ask what I needed the money for. He was thrilled I even considered taking it from him and didn't bother to verify before giving me his card. The smiles on his face as he gave the black card to me made me feel guilty for playing with him. However, thoughts of the past caused me to harden my heart. This was the least he could have done, for breaking my heart and signing to get my babies killed. I still hadn't gotten back at him for that.
I checked the time on the clock as I leaned on my chair, patiently waiting for the right time to leave. The auction wouldn't start for another hour, which means I would have to stay at the office for an extra thirty minutes. The thirty minutes felt like ages because I was anxious to get the show on the road. Rubbing my palms in glee, I reached over for my phone just as it started ringing.
A small smile graced my lips when I saw the caller's ID. "Hello. Missing me already?" I teased, grinning as I imagined him rolling his eyes at my words.
Having stayed with him for a long time, I could tell his reactions to most of my words.
"I got a call from the detective I sent to keep watch over you," he said, his tone solemn. "You are -"
"You sent someone to tail me??!" I yelled at him, having caught up on that. "For fuck's sake, Brion, that's a fucking invasion of privacy!"
"Calm down, Nova. I know you will be mad, which was why I didn't tell you about it. Please believe me when I say I only had your safety in mind when I employed him."
"I'm not freaking concerned about that! You should have informed me before you hired him! Why would you even do that without telling me? That's fucking creepy!"
He sighed, "I'm sorry, Nova. I knew I should have told you about this before. I was just afraid you wouldn't have accepted it, which was why I had it secretly done. Unlike you, I believed someone was indeed targeting you, which was -"
"The end doesn't justify the means, Brion. Getting someone to stalk me isn't something you should have done without my permission! I'm the person being followed by a stranger without even knowing it." I was barely restraining my anger.
"I'm sorry. But before you bite my head off, can you listen to me? Please?"
"Go on." I huffed in anger, still brimming with unrestrained rage.
"Someone is indeed targeting you, Nova. They have tampered your car with once more. This time, they did not do it outside the car, but inside. It was meticulously done, so you wouldn't notice it."
