Chapter 77 How the mighty has fallen
NOVA
"Yes, that will be all for today." I got up from my chair, smiling at them. "If you have questions, you can visit my office anytime. I will be open to any discussion. Especially designs," I added with a chuckle. "I love those." Brion always joked that I lived for it.
"I do have one." Benita got up and walked over to me. "I still don't understand this." She gestured to her tablet. "Mr Dashiell approved of this site. Don't you think it won't go well with the theme? I believe it's too extravagant. It will make everything seem too flashy." She made a face at that. "We don't need anything like that, not with the emerald green accent."
How the mighty has fallen
Dashiell's order without knowing if it would work out or not. "Which one do you have in mind? You must have studied about this before bringing it to my notice, right?"
"Of course." She scrolled down until she got to Dashiell's third hotel. This was the one he built three years ago, and the least visited because of the location. It wasn't in the city centre like most of the other ones he had. This one was located on the outskirts of the city, preferably for those who might wish to lodge at a hotel when stranded or far from the city. Not only that but for any who loves the countryside. He always joked that the hotel was like a home to those who live in the countryside. "Don't you think this one matches it?"
I took the tablet from her, scrunching my brows as I scrolled through the pictures. Just like she pointed out, this one seemed to match the theme we had in mind. The traditional buildings and the location matched the theme. "I will have to discuss this with Dashiell and the board of directors. We can't make such a major change to the event without letting them know."
"What if they don't support this? You realize how huge they are on flashy things. Most of them still blame me for changing the colour."
"But this is for the profit of the entire company. You aren't doing anything wrong. It's not even for personal gains," she argued. "I believe Mr Dashiell will understand when you tell him about this. He will see reasons in it like you did." She smiled, closing her tablet. "I hope you convince him."
"Don't get your hopes up on that."
I left the room after bidding farewell to a few of the workers who were lingering. Most of them were trying to discuss the new design o proposed. Some of them didn't think it was wise for me to introduce another project when we were still preparing for the project.
I didn't share any of their thoughts on the matter. Dwelling on a design when we had already decided on the project wasn't my way. I don't dwell on something for a long time, and I hoped to make the team working under me know that.
Dashiell was waiting in my office when I stepped in, and for the first time, I didn't evade him like I would have done had I not needed to speak to him about the location.
"What are you doing here? It's not time for lunch, is it?" I walked over to my worktable and kept my file on it. "What do you want?" I turned to face him, pursing my lips as I folded my arms. He was sitting on the couch in my office when I stepped in. At my question, he got to his feet, nervously running his hand through his hair as he gave me a lopsided grin.
"I... Are you free? For lunch? You see, there's something I want to discuss with you. I think it will be better if we do that over lunch," he blabbered, his gaze not catching mine. Each time his eyes landed on my face, he would avert his gaze so fast that it made me wonder if I was scary.
"You want me to go for lunch with you?" I folded my arms, amused. Watching him stumble over his words while speaking to me reminded me of five years ago when I acted just like he did. Back then, I revered him. Funny how everything changed. How the mighty had fallen. It seemed I wasn't far from completing my mission.
"Yes." He nodded. "Do you have time? I promise I won't do anything silly. I just want to have lunch with you."
"Huh?"
"And discuss the new design for our Christmas Eve party," he added, gulping as he watched me, his gaze pleading. He looked like he was on the end of his rope, about to leap into a hole.
"I also have something to discuss with you," I stated, my tone dry.
"Really??" He perked up at that, his eyes sparkling as he smiled. "It's decided then. We will go for lunch and discuss everything. How does it sound?"
"Okay." I walked around my desk to my chair.
"Aren't you going with me?" He looked incredulous, squinting as he watched me. "Didn't you just agree to have lunch with me?"
"I did." Nodding, I checked the time on my phone. "We will have 20 minutes before lunch. It's not time. Unless you want to abuse your power by leaving before your employees?" I lifted an eyebrow at that, pursing my lips. My lower lip twitched, but I didn't smile. I had to keep my expression serious.
"Not at all." Blowing out a breath, he smiled nervously before he left.
