Chapter 30 Didn't she tell you how poor you are in bed?
Groaning, I turned to face him, folding my arms with my eyebrows raised as I watched him approach. He didn't look to be in a hurry. With a swagger to his step and his hands in the pockets of the black jeans he was putting on, he looked as if he had all the time in the world. There was a lazy grin on his face, and a little glint in his eyes, one that reminded me so much of Willow. That was exactly the look she always had each time she wanted to do something she perceived I wouldn't appreciate.
"I knew it was you when I saw you from outside," he said, more to himself than me. "There's no way I will ever mistake your hair. I -"
"What are you doing here?" I demanded, shaking my thoughts off the lane it was going towards because it was dangerous.
"What?" He tilted his head a little to the right, with a smug on his face. "Last I checked, this is a supermarket, Nova, not a private property. I have as much right as you do to be here."
He was right, and I had no response to that, which was why I turned to leave instead of saying a word. It seemed there wasn't much to say. Even if I did, I would rather not waste my precious time with someone like him.
"Why are you hell-bent on not forgiving me?" He asked, prompting me to turn to face him.
"Forgive you?" Scoffing, I took a step towards him, my gaze going around to be certain there was no one watching us, and there wasn't. We were, after all, standing in front of the restroom. Not everyone gets pressed while shopping in a mini-mart. "Why should I?"
"Because I'm your husband." He said those words with a straight face like it was the best response ever. Like he had all the damned right to say such words.
Throwing my head back in laughter, I clutched my stomach as tears welled in my eyes. His reply was so damned humorous, I couldn't control my reaction.
"What's funny?" He demanded, sounding puzzled. He looked as perplexed as he sounded, his face scrunched up in a frown as he watched me, waiting for a reply to his question.
"What do you think?" I asked, straightening my stance as I wiped the tears from my eyes. "You are a damned fool, Dashiell. You know that, right?"
"A.. A jerk? Yet, you married me?" He still looked smug, not offended by my words. "Let's leave that for now, Nova. I just want a response from you about something. Where is our baby?"
I stilled at the question. My heart skipped a beat as my forehead beaded with sweat at the last question I wanted to be asked. I slowly raised my head to look at him, locking my eyes with his grey ones while thinking of a reply.
"Do you care?" I asked, my anger took over my fear when I remembered what happened five years ago. "Or are you planning to complete what you neglected to do years ago?"
"What did I fail to do?" His face clouded with confusion. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"Don't act ignorant with me. You know exactly what you planned to do to me with that bitch of a girlfriend you have!"
"Don't you dare insult Lilith!" He gritted out, narrowing his eyes at me. "You have no right."
"Oh?" I scoffed, folding my arms as I watched him with an amused smile on my face. "You are funny. You know, right?"
"How so?"
"You claim you want me back, yet you are shamelessly sleeping with your ex-girlfriend. The same bitch you cheated on me with when I still lived with you."
"Jealous?" I bit my lower lip, smiling. "I don't care what you do or who the fuck you slept around with. You mean absolutely nothing to me. Nothing. If anything, I hope you rot in the hottest part of hell."
"Why did you sleep with me if you hate me this much?" He asked a question I thought he would have asked long ago.
"Because I wanted to scratch an itch." I stepped close to him until we were nose to nose with each other, and stared deep into his eyes. "You are nothing to me now, Dashiell. I only used you that
night."
"That's a lie!" He argued, his face clouding my anger. "Your body can never lie. Not only did you react to my touches, but you asked for more!"
"Like I have done with other men." I placed my right palm on his chest, smiling as I bit my lower lip. "Don't tell me you believed you were special to me because I slept with you?" Scoffing, I took a step back. "I did that because I wanted to remind myself of how poor your performances were."
"Shut up!" I could tell he was pissed at the moment. His eyes darkened with rage, and the veins on his forehead popped out. He looked like he was barely holding himself back.
Backing down was the right thing to do. It was the most logical thing to do at the moment, but I have never been sensible. Smirking, I folded my arms, stepping back to create more distance between us. "What? Did I stoke your ego? Come on, Dashiell, don't tell me Lilith never told you how poor you are in bed?" I laughed, covering my mouth with my palm. "Thinking of you in bed gives me nightmares."
