Chapter 82
“I'm so sorry, it's not because the fish is bad, but the thing is…. I'm allergic to shellfish and seafood in general.” I squeezed my face as I spoke, waiting for their reaction.
“What!?” They all exclaimed in unison because they almost couldn't believe their ears.
“And you didn't know this, Sorin?” His father asked him but he remained quiet, he just kept staring at me.
At some point, I was getting scared because I didn't understand what was going on or why they were so shocked.
“Come to think of it, she is left-handed.” Sorin's mother said as she observed.
“Yes, that's true.” His father agreed.
“How is this possible? How can she bear so much resemblance?” She whispered with a shaky voice, and her husband immediately held her hand, like he was comforting her.
I remained seated, looking so confused because no one was telling me anything. I was just left in the dark to figure out what was going on by myself and this was the hardest thing.
I turned to look at Sorin, hoping to get an answer or a clue from him but to my surprise, he just looked like he was a statue or some rigid object of some sort. Grandpa Zaveri, on the other hand, was silent too. They all looked like they had seen a ghost or an abominable thing and so I knew that something was definitely up or wrong somewhere.
I didn't know who to ask any questions since everyone was in their feelings. Suddenly, Sorin stood up and walked away.
“Son? Wait, Oh no!” His mother muttered and immediately followed him.
“Please excuse us for a moment.” Grandpa Zaveri said and he and Sorin's father both moved out, leaving me at the table.
I impatiently sat, waiting for them to arrive and explain what was going on to me, but it seemed like as the clock kept ticking, hours were running by instead of seconds. Unable to peacefully sit any longer, I needed some air because I felt choked, and so, I stood up from my chair and walked out of the dining area onto the living room and saw the open balcony and walked into it.
I closed my eyes and took in the soothing breeze that was blowing while I tried to sort out all of my thoughts. I guess I had been there for a while and had been carried away with my thoughts that I didn't notice that Grandpa Zaveri and Sorin's parents were back in the living room.
“Drea.” I felt a warm soft hand on my shoulder and I snapped out of my thoughts.
“I'm so sorry ma'am. I was just carried away for a moment.” I swiftly apologized.
“Oh no, it's fine. You don't need to apologize.” She said, shaking her head and I put on a weak smile.
My eyes scanned the room but I didn't see any sign of Sorin, so I decided to ask.
“I don't see Sorin around, is he not here?”
His father sighed and they all looked at each other.
“He left.” She said and my mouth opened in shock.
“What? He left? Why? Did I do anything wrong?” I kept asking.
“No, No No. It's not you. It's not your fault. He just needs some alone time. He will be back home before you know it.” His mum assured me.
“But it's already getting late.” I said, looking out at the already dark sky.
“Don't worry, he'll be fine. He instructed Kelvin to take you home, so Kelvin will take you home.” She said and as she was still speaking, Kelvin walked in and bowed in respect to all.
“I guess we'll have to reschedule this dinner. We will pick another date and let you know, so we can talk better. I have a lot to say and ask you both.” Grandpa Zaveri said.
“Okay, G.P.” I responded, and he held out his arm for a hug and I went to give him a hug
“Goodnight child.” He said.
“Good night, G.P.” I responded.
I hugged Sorin's parents too and bade them good night before leaving with Kelvin.
Kelvin led the way and in a few minutes we were outside. He opened the door to a different car and told me to go in.
“But this is not the car we came in.” I said as I noticed the difference.
“Yes, ma'am. Mr Zaveri already took the one we came in.” He told me.
“Oh. Do you have an idea of where he might have gone to? Does anywhere come to mind at all? I mean, it's getting late.” I asked impatiently.
“I'm not sure, ma'am. But I can assure you that he will be fine. He'll come home once he is ready to do so.” He said.
“Okay.” I replied and fell silent throughout the drive back home. I didn't utter a single word, I just kept staring blankly at the window and kept wondering what exactly happened back at Sorin's parents' house.
“I wish they told me something. At least, I won't be so worried now.” I sighed.
“Are you okay, ma'am?” Kelvin asked, looking at me through the rear view mirror.
“Yes, I am.” I lied, still looking at my side of the window.
“We've arrived home now, ma'am.” He announced and I immediately looked around and saw that we had truly gotten back home. I didn't notice because I had gone so far away in my thoughts.
I didn't wait for him to open the door for me, I opened it myself and stepped out. I'm sure he knew that I was not fine but he didn't want to say anything.
“Would you be needing anything?” He asked as I walked into the house.
“No, thank you.” I answered and walked straight upstairs to the room.
I got into the room, shut the door and sat at the edge of the bed. I checked the time and it was already past 9pm. I then stood up and began to pace. I wanted to call him but as I picked my phone, I realized I didn't have his number saved on it, I hissed in disappointment.
“Wait, Kelvin definitely has his number.” I said out loud, snapping my fingers like I had found gold.
“Urghhh! I don't have Kelvin's number too.” I remembered.
“But at least, he is not far away. I'll go and ask him.” I thought to myself and stood up, ready to leave the room when I heard a knock on the door.
“Yes? Who is it?” I asked cautiously.
“It's Kelvin.”
“Oh! Thank goodness. You're just the person I needed to see right now.” I said as I opened the door and he stepped in.
“Why?” He asked.
“I need your number and Sorin's.” I replied as I handed my phone over to him.
He collected it from me and typed the numbers m, after which he handed the phone back to me. After confirming which number is his and which one is Sorin's, I saved both their numbers.
“But wait, why did you come here? I wasn't expecting to see you.” I said.
“Oh! Yeah. I noticed you were worried and so I wanted to come and tell you that I've been able to reach Mr Sorin.” He said and with this, my eyes widened in expectation.
“Where is he? Did he tell you? Is he fine?” I didn't stop asking.
“Yes, ma'am. He is fine. He told me to tell you not to wait up for him and that you should go to bed.” He said and my face fell.
“Oh… Okay. Thank you.” I appreciated Kelvin and he left the room.
Immediately he left, I went back to sit in the bed with my phone in my hand. I kept staring at the phone which had Sorin's name boldly showing in my contact list. Despite the fact that Kelvin had given me word concerning him, I really wanted to hear from him by myself and so I summoned the courage to dial his number, which began to ring immediately but no one picked it up. I tried it a couple of times more but still to no avail.
