Ch.99
Ayanna's POV

After a short while, Dr. Albert and I returned to the office, where Travis was waiting. I sat close to him.

Dr. Albert adjusted his glasses as he looked between Travis and me.

"Mrs Sinclair, based on your medical history and the examinations we conducted, the primary reason you can't carry another pregnancy is due to damage to your uterus," he began.

Travis adjusted himself beside me. "What kind of damage?"

"After your last delivery, there were complications that led to significant scarring in the uterine lining. The scar tissue has reduced the elasticity and function of your uterus, making it unable to sustain a pregnancy. The risk of implantation failure or miscarriage would be extremely high."

I kept my hands clasped tightly in my lap. "But my ovaries are fine?"

"Yes," Dr. Albert confirmed. "Your ovarian function is normal, and you're still producing viable eggs. This means surrogacy is an option if you wish to have another child."

Travis exhaled sharply, rubbing his palm over his chin. "So there's no way she could carry the baby herself?"

Dr. Albert shook his head. "I wouldn't recommend it. The structural damage is too severe. Attempting a pregnancy could lead to life-threatening complications for Ayanna."

I glanced at Travis, waiting for his reaction. He didn't speak immediately, just staring at the floor.

Dr. Albert continued, "If you decide to proceed with surrogacy, we can begin the necessary steps. But I want to be clear-this isn't a condition that will improve over time. A natural pregnancy isn't a safe possibility anymore."

I nodded slowly and glanced at Travis, hoping he understood the situation.

Travis remained silent, his jaw clenched as he absorbed everything the doctor had just said. I could see the inner battle waging within him.

I reached for his hand, squeezing it gently. "Travis, I know this isn't what we imagined, but it's the best way for us to have another child."

His fingers curled around mine, but he still didn't say anything. I turned back to Dr. Albert. "What's the next step?"

Dr. Albert leaned forward. "First, we'll need to extract Ayanna's eggs and fertilize them with your sperm in a laboratory setting. Once we have viable embryos, we'll select a surrogate mother to carry the pregnancy. The process is carefully monitored to ensure everything goes smoothly."

I asked curiously."How do we find a surrogate?"

Dr. Albert offered a reassuring smile. "We can match you with a surrogate through our clinic. We conduct thorough screenings-both medical and psychological-to ensure she's the right fit. Of course, if you have someone in mind, you can bring your own surrogate, but she'll still need to pass our screening process."

Travis leaned back in his chair, folding his arms. "And how long does this take?"

"The timeline varies. The screening and preparation for the surrogate could take a few weeks, and the embryo transfer process can take another few weeks to months, depending on how the surrogate's body responds. The pregnancy itself would be the standard nine months, just like any other pregnancy."

I hesitated. "What are the chances of success?"

"Surrogacy has a high success rate when using healthy eggs and sperm. Of course, there are risks, but we'll do everything to ensure the best outcome."

Travis turned to me. "Are you sure about this?"

I nodded. "If this is the only way for us to have another child, then yes."

Travis took a deep breath. "Then let's do it."

Dr. Albert smiled. "We'll start the initial tests today. The first step will be retrieving your eggs, Ayanna, and running a few tests on Travis to ensure the best chances of success. I'll have the nurse take you to the lab for the first phase."

Travis held my hand as we followed the nurse down the hallway to a smaller examination room. A different doctor explained the procedure to me, telling me how they would monitor my cycle closely over the next couple of weeks before retrieving my eggs.

After the checkup, Travis had his tests done, and we returned to Dr. Albert's office.

"The results should be ready soon," Dr. Albert said. "Once we confirm everything looks good, we can move forward. Have you considered any preferences for the surrogate?"

Travis stiffened. "Preferences?"

"Some couples prefer someone with a specific background, education level, or even physical traits similar to the mother," Dr. Albert explained.

I shook my head. "I just want someone healthy and reliable. That's all that matters."

"That's understandable. We'll match you with a few candidates based on your medical and personal criteria," Dr. Albert assured us.

Travis nodded. "And she'll be under constant supervision, right? I don't want any surprises."

"Absolutely. Our surrogates go through extensive medical screenings, psychological evaluations, and legal agreements. You'll be involved in every step of the process."

I let out a breath. "Thank you, Doctor."

Travis stood, pulling me up with him. "Let's get this over with."

Dr. Albert smiled. "We'll arrange a meeting with the surrogate tomorrow."

He sighed, then pulled me into his arms. "I won't lie-I'm still unsure. But if this is what you want, I'll stand by you. I just need time to process everything."

Tears welled in my eyes as I hugged him tightly. "Thank you for supporting me."

When we arrived home, Irene came running toward us, her tiny arms wrapping around my legs. "Mommy, Daddy, you're back!"

Travis bent down, scooping her into his arms. "Did you behave while we were gone?"

She nodded eagerly. "Yes! Nanny helped me bake cookies!."

I smiled, brushing a stray curl from her face. "That sounds delicious. We'll have to try them later."

I found myself feeling a mixture of emotions-hopeful, anxious, and excited all at once.

Just before bed, Travis wrapped his arms around me from behind. "We'll meet the surrogate tomorrow."
