Chapter 29 I Might Sleep And Die
One thing Ana loves to see every morning now was an alert of 30k euro. Fernando had paid her for the one week she had stayed and was now paying her daily ever since that day.
In just two weeks Fernando was able to get her business approved. She was so happy when she got the email that her business was now registered.
She had shared the news with her family and they were so happy to hear it.
“I thought it would take an extra two months,” her father said on call.
“That is what I heard too, but I’m surprised it came early now we can finally open. All the suppliers had brought the fabrics they will be using to start the business, the sales of the fabric will determine if they will patronize those suppliers again or get new people.
Ana was so happy that evening that she felt like celebrating. She was going to go to her parents' place tomorrow to celebrate with them.
She was about to go down to have dinner when Fernando came into the room.
“Thank you for helping me out with getting my business registered” she said.
“What’s the point of thanking me when it was the condition you gave to make you stay”
“Yes, but I still need to thank you, if not for your connection I would not have gotten it on time”
“Didn’t think you knew how to show appreciation”
“Ofcourse I do”
“Good then”
Ana could sense something was wrong. He looked so emotionally tired, was it about his fiancee who is still in coma.
“About your fiancee in a coma.…”
“Why are you suddenly asking about her?” Fernando cut her short.
“Because if she doesn’t wake up soon you might have to tell your mother the truth sooner or later”
“I'm paying you daily for your service. Is it not enough?” Fernando frowned.
“That’s not the point”
“What’s the point then?”
Ana sighed “Never mind, forget I asked”
Fernando went into the room and she went down to have dinner.
Later he had joined them midway and Mrs Buenavista saw this as an opportunity to say what both of them had feared so much.
“It’s been close to 4 months since you both got married. And since I’m still alive, don’t you both think you should give me a grandchild”
Fernando chuckled on the food he was eating and immediately drank water but kept coughing.
Ana bite her bottom lip. What kind of response should they give to her?
“Silvia?” When Mrs Buenavista called, she was expecting a response from her son but since he was coughing she faced her.
Ana bit her bottom lip, she looked at Fernando.
“Fernando and I, we……..”
“Not now mother” Fernando said, making Ana not complete her statement.
“And why is that? I thought having a child was what both of you wanted the most. Both of you used to talk about having kids when you get married, what changed” Mrs Buenavista questioned both of them.
Ana looked at Fernando. She had never gotten this information before. It was the first time she was hearing that he and Silvia had such plans from the beginning.
Ana did not know what to say so she just kept on eating her food.
“Answer me both of you” Mrs Buenavista went on with her question.
“Mother, we both changed our mind about that. You have to respect our decision. I’m too busy at work, we will have kids when I’m less busy and when we are emotionally ready” Fernando said with a tone to let his mother know that he doesn’t want to talk more about it.
Mrs Buenavista did not like his answer at all and she doesn’t plan on backing down “Just because I survived my death notice doesn’t mean I can’t sleep now and die in my sleep at any time”
“Mother in-law you should not speak in such a way” Ana pleaded with her and she received a glare from Mrs Buenavista.
Ana was surprised but kept calm.
“She is right, mother. Do not say such a thing” Fernando defended.
“I will say it, I might die at any time. So give me grandchildren!” She said in anger.
Ana was taken aback, she was shocked. Mrs Buenavista has never spoken this way before.
Fernando stared at his mother not knowing what to do or say. He was getting frustrated.
Ana stood up and bowed her head “Thank you for the dinner. She said and went upstairs.
“I’m coming with you wife” Fernando said
Ana was surprised but remembered that it was just him acting.
He stood up and also bowed his head then walked away, following Ana upstairs.
Mrs Buenavista was angry that they left, but continued eating her food without them.
They both got into the room and Ana turned to face him “See, this is exactly why I asked about your fiancee in coma. At some point you would have to tell your mother the truth, I can’t stay here for so long”
“And you think she will not die the moment she finds out we have been lying to her. Forget about her treatment, the reason my mother is still holding on is simply because of the hope that she will see her grandchildren before she gives up”
“You shouldn’t speak this way,” Ana said to him.
“Just continue your duties, if she wants a child so badly I will find a way out. Just keep on doing your part for now”
Find a way out? How does he plan to do it?
Ana sighed not knowing what to say. She knew that sooner than later their lies would catch up with them.
The next day she went to see her parents and they celebrated their store opening. They decided that in 3 days time they will open the store officially.
And that was what they did cause on the third day they officially opened. Ana had run ads online to advertise the opening of their store and some of their fabrics.
Friends from their old neighborhood came to celebrate with them on the opening of their shop.
It was in a good location and the yearly rent was about 50k euro which she paid 3 years upfront.
They successfully sold some fabrics on the first day and the second day was good as well. With time they will get more customers.
Ana had done the interior design of the shop to be like a luxury shop to attract people from all walks of life.
That afternoon she headed to law school because she had classes.
While she was rushing she collided with someone and everything he was holding fell from his hand.
