Chapter 85 You Still Want to Find Wade
"Dad, can you guys spot me some cash?" Shirley asked, looking all worried.
Michael's face twisted in disbelief and anger. "Don't you have shares in the company? Where's all that money going every month?"
Shirley bit her lip, tears welling up in her eyes and rolling down her cheeks, making her look as pitiful as possible.
"I lost it gambling. I have to pay the casino a bit every month," she mumbled, her voice getting quieter and quieter.
She glanced up, looking miserably at Michael and Anna.
"Shirley!" Michael's face was red with anger as he moved to hit her.
Shirley quickly covered her face. "Dad, don't hit me. I won't ask for money anymore."
Michael paused, his fury momentarily abating, but he still glared at her coldly. He never expected her next words would make him even angrier.
"Then I'll just go ask those sugar daddies," Shirley said, pretending to be in a tough spot. "Kenneth is the most generous! The others only give me ten or twenty grand; that's not enough at all!"
"No, no, no, there's also Wade. Wade gives me fifty grand each time, but now he's in a coma. I can't get any money from him now, no matter what I do." Shirley wrung her hands, her voice trembling with anxiety.
"You even want to turn to Wade?" Michael's eyes were full of rage, and he was so worked up by Shirley that he felt short of breath.
Anna was also furious seeing Shirley like this, but she couldn't do anything to her. Faking a smile, her bright eyes full of mirth, she said, "Alright, Shirley, if you need money, you can talk to me. From now on, you can't go to Wade, understand?"
Shirley pretended not to understand, frowning and asking, "Why?"
Anna maintained her fake smile but sneered inwardly, thinking, 'It seems all my years of pampering Shirley have paid off. She can't grasp something so simple. At this rate, she'll ruin herself. If she wants men, let her. One day, she'll be the laughingstock of Frostholm, and no one will marry her.'
"No why. Just remember that you can't see Wade or Kenneth anymore. Cut your connection with both of them right now, got it?" Anna said firmly. Seeing Shirley's confused expression, she added, "I won't harm you."
Anna then took a credit card out of her bag and handed it to Shirley. "Aren't you short on money? I have an unlimited credit card. Take it. Spend as much as you want."
"Isn't this a bit much?" Shirley raised her eyes and testingly glanced at Michael.
Anna gave Michael a meaningful look. "This is my credit card. Take it without worry! It has nothing to do with your dad."
Shirley carefully took the credit card, "Thank you, Anna."
"We're family, no need to be polite." Anna's bright eyes were full of smiles, "Stay quiet and don't go looking for sugar daddies these days. The money I'm giving you should last you a while."
She wasn't afraid of Shirley finding sugar daddies, but she was afraid Shirley would bring her big trouble again. Helen's engagement party was coming up, and she couldn't afford any mistakes.
"Okay, Anna." Shirley nodded obediently.
Anna smiled brightly. "Then your dad and I will leave now. Be sure to behave."
Shirley nodded happily.
Anna, arm in arm with Michael, smiled. "Let's go, honey. I'm sure Shirley won't go looking for them anymore."
Michael snorted, leaving with Anna, and slammed Shirley's door shut, as if releasing all his anger on it.
Shirley wasn't angry. Thrilled, she kissed the credit card twice, not expecting any money from home.
Outside the door, Anna and Michael's voices could be heard.
"Why did you give her that much?" Michael's voice was full of anger.
"Honey," Anna began, her tone soothing, "didn't you see how much Shirley needs money right now? If we don't give it to her, what if she turns to Kenneth or Wade?"
She continued, her voice steady and persuasive. "Besides, Helen is about to get engaged to Kenneth. If Shirley causes trouble over money now, it won't be good for the Johnson family. Just let her do as she pleases for now."
Michael sighed, "You are right. I was really about to lose my mind with anger over Shirley. How can she be so shameless?"
Shirley heard everything and chuckled as she put the card in her bag, determined to live off this credit card and cover all her expenses with it. She wouldn't waste Anna's kindness.
In the following days, Shirley was indeed well-behaved, staying at home.
Only at night would she sneak out to Whispering Pines Hotel to treat Laura. The rest of the time, she stayed home tending to her plants, cooking, doing half an hour of aerobics to stay fit, watching short videos, browsing shopping apps, listening to music, and watching TV.
Life was particularly quiet.
One afternoon, just as she was about to take a nap, there was a knock on the door.
