Chapter 85 Choosing Her Side
"Come on, Rowan. You will hurt him this way" Jack rushed to him and pulled Rowan back.
"Hey brother, what a surprise. You have not spoken to me in a year but you come running to defend your little lover when I haven't even laid my hands on her?" Wilson sneered.
"Grow up, Wilson" Jack retorted, still holding Rowan back.
"Oh, you came with your little puppy too." Wilson said, smiling mischievously.
Rowan charged towards Wilson again but Jack stopped him again. "Let it go, man" he then turned to Wilson. "You sure deserve that blow."
"Cut the crap and get to the business of the day." Wilson snapped. "What do you want?"
"Nice question." Rowan responded. "I am going to ask you once. Delete what you posted on Social Media and apologize to Amanda publicly for what you said and have cost her"
"Easy!" Wilson exclaimed. "But to what do I owe that?" He asked, grinning.
"Don't play games with me, Wilson. What the hell is going on? Why are you accusing Amanda of murder?" Rowan demanded, his fists still clenched?
Wilson smirked, reveling in the chaos he had unleashed. "Because I want justice"
"Justice for who?" Rowan yelled, interrupting him.
"For Mabel, for me and for everyone she has hurt." Wilson yelled back.
Rowan chuckled. "Justice for Mabel, the same Mabel." He walked a few steps away from Wilson and Jack before he continued.
"I looked into Mabel, she was a suspected criminal. She was wanted for Felony. Even if I do not want to believe all of that. She squandered my money. She used and dumped me." He sighed.
"Look here, there is no way Amanda would have done that to her. She wouldn't kill to save her own life, Wilson."
"You don't know that," Wilson exclaimed.
"I do." Rowan interjected. "And it is a shame that despite claiming to have dated her you know nothing about her. Now I am beginning to doubt everything you told me about her."
Wilson looked away, suddenly sober. Rowan continued.
"Listen to me carefully. You have twenty four hours to take back everything you have said. I won't let you destroy her life with your stupid games," Rowan retorted, stepping closer to Wilson.
"And if I don't?" Wilson asked Rowan, his tension rising.
Rowan walked closer, just an inch away from Wilson. He looked closely into his red eyes "Then I will make you regret your existence."
In a sudden, aggressive move, Wilson grabbed Rowan's collar, a sinister glint in his eyes. "Stay out of this, Rowan. This is not a family business."
Rowan pushed Wilson away, anger burning in his eyes. "I will make it one. You mess with Amanda, you mess with me."
With that, Rowan walked hastily out of the door. "Wilson, you know your brother, this is trouble. Please stop before it is too late." Jack said before following Rowan.
Later that evening, Rowan decided to go to the police department himself. He had sent orders to grant Amanda bail and on several occasions from different people, the orders had been dismissed.
"Rowan, I get that you want to help Amanda, but let's handle this the right way. Threatening Wilson and now heading to the police department won't make things better," Johnny urged as they approached the police station.
"I can't stand by and watch Amanda suffer for something she didn't do. If I have to ruffle some feathers to get her out of this mess, so be it," Rowan replied, his jaw clenched.
At the police station, Rowan's presence didn't go unnoticed. Whispers circulated among the officers as he walked through the corridors. "Isn't that Rowan Xi?" one officer muttered to another.
Ignoring their whispers, Rowan approached the front desk. The officers, recognizing him, exchanged glances but maintained a professional demeanor.
"I need to speak to your commander," Rowan declared, his tone demanding attention.
Johnny, trying to keep Rowan focused, said, "Rowan, this might work better if we talk to Amanda first. Let's not escalate things."
Ignoring Johnny, Rowan yelled at the desk officers. "Where is your commander?"
Shaken, one of the officers rushed to call the commander while the other dialed his office. In no time, the commander, with a stern expression, emerged from his office.
"Mr. Xi, what brings you here?" He inquired, trying to maintain a composed demeanor.
"I'm here for Amanda Roberts," Rowan stated firmly. "I've issued orders for her release, but they seem to be ignored."
The commander frowned, realizing the gravity of the situation. "Mr. Xi, we have a proper procedure for these matters. We can't simply release someone without due process."
"Due process you say?" Rowan asked. "On what ground was she arrested? Because my brother posted something on his social media page, you think that is enough to place an arrest on an innocent lady?" Rowan scoffed, "Is that due process or affluence?"
The commander sighed, acknowledging the situation. "I assure you, Mr. Xi, the investigation is ongoing. We can't release her without proper documentation."
"Just the way you shouldn't have arrested her without proper investigations. Rowan leaned in, his eyes piercing. "Commander, you and I both know that keeping Amanda behind bars won't end well for anyone"
The commander's eyes widened as he listened intently to Rowan. "Especially when I can rob you of your job by just blinking. Imagine me telling my side of the story. How the police commander placed an illegal arrest because someone from Xi's family who was obviously out of his mind claimed an innocent lady was a serial killer."
"How much did he pay you?" Rowan continued. "I suggest you reconsider. It's in your best interest."
The commander, sensing the gravity of Rowan's words and the potential fallout, nodded, "I will look into it."
"I am not leaving here without Amanda." Rowan stated, his looks firm.
The commander didn't hesitate further. "Get Amanda Roberts released immediately."
After some minutes, Amanda was released and she came out to see Rowan. Her eyes widened in disbelief and relief when she saw Rowan at the police station.
As he approached her, she couldn't hold back her emotions. "Rowan, I knew you would come for me" she said, her voice choking with gratitude.
Rowan nodded, a rare softness in his expression. "I didn't do it. I swear. You have to believe me. I didn't kill Mabel." Amanda lamented, trying to convince Rowan.
"I know. Amanda, I believe you, okay?" Rowan said, touching her face so she could calm down.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Amanda couldn't help herself and pulled Rowan into a tight hug. "Thank you, thank you so much," she whispered, tears streaming down her face.
However, it was short-lived. Her gaze met Wills, standing at the entrance staring back at her.
