“Aunty, the company is about to be taken by the Clarks,” Rhiannon said to her aunt Melda.
Melda frowned about hearing her words as she couldn’t believe that that man would do that to Rhiannon as she had witnessed how her friend had gotten married to the latter.
“Taken? How can that be?” she asked with a frown.
Rhiannon stared at her as she wondered whether the alter was pretending not to know anything or not.
“Da met with an accident yesterday. I was in worry thus I rushed to the hospital. He had lost a lot of blood but when I was just to donate my blood, I was told that we don’t share the same blood type. Father said when he woke up that mother was blood type A, is it true?” Rhiannon asked as her tone had been of urgency out of impatient.
See down, she hoped that what she had been told at the hospital was not true.
“He is right. Our mother was blood type A,” Melda said crushing Rhiannon’s hope.
Luckily, she wasn’t standing as she would have fallen when told that.
“But….but,” she tried asking a question but she kept stammering and unable to ask.” Rhiannon, I know that this has affected you but there is nothing you can do. Your mother married a man because she wanted you to have a complete family. She wanted you to have someone to rely on when she wasn’t around. If she knew that whatever has happened to you in the past years since she died would happen, I am sure that she wouldn’t have married your father. She would have even opted to give birth and raise you alone,” Melda explained.
“Then who is my father?” Rhiannon asked after calming down and wiping away her tears.
Melda was stunned at her question and the both of them stared at each other for a while.
“Or you also don’t know? But how can that be? Aren’t you my mother’s best friend?” Rhiannon asked with a frown as she wondered whether everything she knew since she was a kid lies.
“No! Although you and most people see that, your mother was my boss,” Melda said as she seemed to be taken back in time.
“I was once a very poor girl who couldn’t afford tuition fees or anything to eat. At that time, I was in the capital. To earn money, I worked in a café. There was a day when I encountered a group of men on my way home after my night shift. Your mother walked at the moment something worse was about to happen,” Melda started narrating as her eyes were full of pain and sadness as she remembered the old days.
However, when she mentioned Sabrina, her eyes shone as if she had met some gold or precious stones, after all, women loved jewels and jades.
“She rescued me and asked why I was out at such a time and I told her. From then on, she paid for my school fees and accommodation. After completing my studies, she helped me get a job in one of the best design companies. It belonged to her friend’s family.”
“However, she one day came to tell me that she was leaving and I should be careful. That I should make her proud. I asked her where she was leaving and told me that her life was in danger and there were people following her. At that time, I already saw her as my big sister thus how could I let her go alone? I made a fuss when she refused that I should accompany her till she comprised.”
Melda sighed as it seemed that she had just come from telling a very difficult story.
“That’s how we came to this city. She was talented in every industry and we started building our first company. The company which you think that its mine, it's your mothers, I am just a mere CEO who is paid by the company although I have some shares in it,” Melda said with a smile shocking Rhiannon as she started wondering how rich her mother was.
“Although she married your father or you, she was worried that if they find out that you are not their child, he might make things hard for you. Worse, you might fail to inherit the company. She didn’t want you to be entangled in the battle. Nonetheless, my company as the first company, is yours. I was even waiting till you get a footing at the Clarks Company before telling you everything and joining it with this one but it would have to be swallowed as the company I manage has grown into a higher level, become large, and one of the most successful companies in the cities and top 100 in the country,” Melda said causing Rhiannon to nod her head as she had always looked at how the company was doing since she thought that she had to know as it was her aunts.
“Aunt. I understand everything but cousin loves designing and has been looking forward to taking over from you,” Rhiannon said although she appreciated what the latter had done for her and her mother.
Melda shook her head as she was worried that Rhiannon might misunderstand something.
“My family already knows. Even my husband knows and supports us. He always said that he doesn’t need you to give us the company as it was thanks to your mother that he found a wife,” Melda said causing Rhiannon to chuckle.
She understood what her uncle meant. If Aunty had stayed in the capital not accompanying her mother, she would never have met her uncle.
“You don’t need to worry. I told them that the company was founded by your mother for you and that I was merely her secretary. I was careful. Although they are family, I may never know who is sincere or not. Your mother was been followed by an organization thus I have kept most things a secret. What I know although very little,” Melda said making Rhiannon nod her head as she understood.
“No that it seemed that you have understood me, I am relieved. Your cousin said that she was working hard so at least she can also be able to side at your side as your secretary and also protect you when you encounter danger.”
Upon hearing her words, Rhiannon felt sour in her heart as she remembered how she treated her cousin just because Kaylee told her. She never wanted to make Kaylee mad. To her, Kaylee was the family while her cousin was trying to ruin their relationship out of jealousy.
Melda started worrying when she saw her crying and panicked.
“Aunty, where is a cousin?” Rhiannon asked as she stared at her aunt with a hint of stubbornness in her eyes.
Her big watery eyes blinked stubbornly as she bit her lower lips like someone who had been wronged and was about to start crying. Seeing her like this, Melda was stunned before she smiled as it had been long since she saw her like that.
“Your cousins and uncles are at the company. Your youngest cousin said that she can’t be the lazy one and not do anything thus she started working at the company,” Melda said with a smile when she talked about her family as she was proud of them.
Rhiannon nodded in understanding as her eyes shone with determination. She wanted to make everything right but at the same time, she was worried that her cousins might hate her for how she used to treat them.
“Aunt, I will be staying with you for a while before I decide what I should do next,” Rhiannon informed the latter.
“What? Why? Didn’t I hear that you are married?” Melda asked.
“Yes but..…”
“No buts, Rhiannon! A married woman should always stay at her husband’s place. You can’t just come and hide here because something has happened on that side. What will they say about you? Don’t you think that they will call you a coward?” Melda interrupted her and asked sternly causing Rhiannon to want to cry as she felt wronged.
“Aunty, it isn’t that I don’t want to go back and accompany my husband but the guy is too busy to have time for me” Rhiannon answered as she bit her lip.
“What do you mean? Doesn’t he treat you well? Or does he think that now you have been proven that you aren’t the Clark’s child you are a nobody and have nothing? Did he marry you because you are rich?” Melda asked question after question making Rhiannon dumbfounded as she wondered why the latter was thinking too much.
“No! He was richer than I am. He also doesn’t know about my identity yet,” Rhiannon said causing her aunt to sigh in relief.
“That's good. At least… I thought...”
“Aunty, calm down. Everything is fine between my husband and me,” Rhiannon interrupted her as she had a feeling that what her aunt would say next would be eye-shocking.
“He is just beauty. He went to the capital yesterday for some business and might be back after a few days, I believe that Aunty has no issue in hosting me those capable of days, It better for me to live here instead of living alone,” Rhiannon said and lowered her head since she felt guilty about lying.
There was no way she was going to be alone as the butler was also there.
“Okay,” Melda said with a smile.
“It’s also a good thing. In these coming days, you familiarize yourself with the company before taking over. You should take what rightfully belongs to you and forget about that family.”
