Chapter 268 Agree to Stay
The reporter was broadcasting the whole incident live, and everyone in Harmony City was glued to the Disney stabbing event, including Carol. She was in a cab racing towards Disney, anxiously watching the livestream on her phone.
But of course, they hit traffic.
As the minutes ticked by, Carol couldn't stand the helplessness of sitting in the car any longer. She decisively got out, kicked off her high heels, and started running barefoot down the street.
The hard pavement stung her feet, but she had only one thought in her mind—get to Daisy as quickly as possible.
The streets were packed with cars, and the traffic was terrible, making Carol even more anxious.
Just then, a motorcycle roared up and stopped beside her. The rider took off his helmet, revealing a handsome, rugged face with deep-set features and a free-spirited look in his eyes. He exuded a strong, sunny vibe that seemed out of place in the bustling city.
"Where to? I'll take you."
The man's gaze fell on Carol's bleeding feet. Without hesitation, Carol jumped onto the back of the motorcycle and held on tightly to his waist.
"Disney, hurry."
The motorcycle weaved through the congested streets with the rider expertly maneuvering around the traffic. Carol resumed watching the live stream of the Disney stabbing incident on her phone.
As a mother, Carol was on the verge of a breakdown, but she knew the motorcycle was already going as fast as it could. She couldn't push him any harder.
Soon, they arrived at the entrance to Disney Park, where David's bodyguards were standing guard, not letting anyone in or out.
Carol's heart tightened. She jumped off the motorcycle and tried to rush in, but the bodyguards blocked her path.
"Sorry, the park is on lockdown," one of the bodyguards said coldly.
"I'm not a visitor. My daughter is in there. She's been taken. I need to get in!"
Carol, losing control, tugged at the bodyguard, trying to force her way in. But her strength was no match for the burly bodyguard, and each attempt to push through was met with resistance.
Seeing Daisy so close yet being stopped at the gate was driving Carol mad.
The man on the motorcycle saw what was happening, took off his helmet, and walked over to the bodyguard. The bodyguard recognized him immediately.
"Mr. Stone, what are you doing here?"
"Good, you know me. Now step aside and let us in. If there's any trouble, I'll take responsibility."
"Yes, Mr. Stone."
The bodyguard didn't hesitate and immediately ordered the others to clear the entrance. The head bodyguard was just following orders; he didn't dare let Carol in because he didn't want to be held accountable. But now that someone was willing to take responsibility, he had no reason to stop her.
"Thank you," Carol said as she rushed into Disney Park.
Zachary Stone revved the engine and blocked Carol's path with the motorcycle.
"The park is huge. Get on, I'll take you."
The motorcycle sped through the park, and they arrived near the parade floats just as Sophia was taking down the kidnapper. Carol ran over and hugged Daisy tightly, feeling her warmth and the breath of life. The long-suppressed fear and anxiety in her heart burst out in tears.
"Daisy, thank God you're okay."
Carol's voice trembled with concern and pain. She held Daisy tightly, afraid of losing her again. Daisy's face still showed traces of fear, but she managed a smile.
"Carol, I'm fine."
Carol shuddered with relief, thinking of the earlier scene. She couldn't imagine what would have happened if Sophia hadn't arrived in time.
At that moment, Carol's heart felt torn, filled with guilt towards Daisy and gratitude towards Sophia.
"Thank you, Sophia," Carol said.
"I was just doing what I had to," Sophia replied.
Carol felt a wave of emotion. She shook her head. There was no such thing as just doing what one had to do.
Sophia had risked her own safety to save Daisy. From that moment on, Sophia was Carol's benefactor. Carol gently took Sophia's hand. "I'll take your case."
Even if Sophia had saved Daisy for Carol's sake, even if Sophia had ulterior motives, Carol didn't care. After all, Sophia had truly saved Daisy's life. She couldn't imagine how she would go on if something had happened to Daisy.
"I'm glad you agreed, but..."
Sophia hesitated.
"I didn't save Daisy because..."
"I know!"
Carol interrupted Sophia, catching her eye and giving a slight shake of her head while glancing at Daisy. Sophia got the message immediately. Some things weren't for little ears.
After all, kids were happier not knowing everything.
Sophia respected Carol's protective instincts for Daisy and nodded in agreement.
Daisy, being a child, quickly shifted her emotions. She had been pale with fear moments ago, but now, standing with her favorite people, Sophia and Carol, she felt safe again.
Daisy tilted her head, puzzled, looking at Sophia and Carol.
"Carol, Sophia, what are you talking about? I don't understand."
Carol affectionately ruffled Daisy's hair but said nothing.
Daisy seemed to understand and nestled into Carol's embrace, also saying nothing.
The kidnapper, however, couldn't stand seeing Daisy happy. Though he was already subdued by David's bodyguards and handed over to the police, he continued to shout.
"Why? Why does your daughter get to live a good life while my daughter lies dying in a hospital bed? It's not fair! It's not fair!"
His shouts grew fainter as he was taken away, and no one paid attention except the reporters.
The kidnapper was taken away in a police car, his face full of anger and resentment. He sat in the back seat, secretly planning his escape. When the police weren't looking, he quietly picked the handcuffs. As soon as the officer turned his back, the kidnapper used the chain to strangle him. The officer quickly lost consciousness, and the kidnapper grabbed his gun.
He opened the car door and jumped out without hesitation.
The police car was moving at a decent speed, but the kidnapper knew he had to escape to have any chance.
Sophia and Carol, not far away, had just started to relax when they heard a commotion. They turned to see the kidnapper jumping out of the police car, gun in hand, aiming straight at them.
Sophia's heart tightened, sensing a strong killing intent.
"Bitch! I'm going to kill you today!"
The kidnapper's finger tightened on the trigger, ready to fire.
