Chapter 257: Bracing for the worst
Everyone froze in their spot. What made grandfather worry was that Madison would be scared of Wesley after seeing him all bloody and looking like the king of hell. Wesley also had the same fear. He had a feeling he had already traumatized Madison further, considering what she'd already gone through earlier. He didn't know whether to run away or to keep standing where he was. If he ran away, wouldn't that mean he was running away from responsibility? What if it made Maddy feel sad? All that while, Madison was just looking at Wesley without blinking. No one knew what was going on in her mind. That's what made people scared.
"I'll go back to my room. You can continue with your business." Madison said softly and turned to leave the living room. Wesley had just opened his mouth to call out to Madison. Grandfather shook his head at him. Wesley had no choice but to stop what he was about to do. He wondered why grandfather did that, but he figured there was a reason. The two silently watched as Madison ascended the stairs. It was pitiful, but what could they do in such a situation?

"Grandpa, why did you stop me?" Wesley couldn't help but ask.
"She needs some time to herself. " Grandpa answered with a thoughtful look. From how he saw Madison, it looked like she wasn't as scared as he thought she would be. It seemed like she had already started getting used to the other side of Wesley. He raised a brow. What did this brat, Wesley, make his precious granddaughter go through while they were together? When he thought about that, he decided not to tell him anything. He wanted him to go through that pain, too.
"Then?" Wesley was confused. He didn't know what to do, so he could only ask his grandfather.
"You look like a bloody mess. At least go and clean up first." Grandfather looked at Wesley in disgust and said.
Wesley touched his nose awkwardly and turned to head upstairs. Grandpa, on the other hand, slumped on the couch in a relaxed manner, looking forward to seeing what Wesley's next move would be.

After Wesley was done cleaning up and had some time to think about the next course of action, he figured that he needed to hear what Madison had to say. He knew he should expect anything, considering how much he knew Madison. The girl was always scared of blood, and that's why he mostly made sure not to be covered in blood whenever he was with her. He didn't want to freak her out. After adjusting his state of mind, he walked to Madison's room and gently rapped on the door.
"Maddy?" He called out softly.
"The door isn't locked." Madison said in a muffled voice. Wesley felt his heart clench when he heard how down she sounded. However, he still pushed the door open and entered. He braced himself on what to expect before he went and stood before her.
"Maddy, i-"
"Wesley," Before he could explain himself, Madison cut him off. This made everything freeze in place. Wesley clenched his fists, totally anticipating the worst news. What could he do? It seemed like she had already decided.
