Chapter 16

*Tina's POV*

I sat on the counter, watching as the police officers went about their work. I could not believe what happened today.

Kelly was arrested.

Why is it that whenever she comes to my house and invites me out for a hangout, something disastrous always happens? The first time, it was that slut, Natalie. Now this. If we get through this, I would tell Kelly to put our hangout on hold for a month. Or until that slut is dealt with. That bitch was beginning to become a thorn on our sides. What made the situation more annoying was the fact that she wasn't even engaged to Alejandro or at least his girlfriend.

Speaking of Alejandro, I had immediately called him after the arrest and gave him the details and whereabout of the station and he replied that he would be over. When this is over, he would also get a good talking to from me. I don't care if he was my boss or my potential lover, he needed to put this bitch on a leash and get her out of her lives.

Just when I got tired of waiting and assumed Kelly was going to pass the night in a cell, I saw Alejandro walk into the station. He looked tired and his hair was disheveled. It didn't change anything though. He still looked as sexy as ever. His eyes scanned the room and they landed on mine. He rushed over.

"Thank goodness you came," I said as he took my hand in his.

"I don't make promises I don't plan to keep." His tired eyes stared intently into mine. "Where's she?"

"In custody," I replied. "I think you will have to speak with the chief."

"That won't be a problem." He made his way to the counter where one of the officers were on duty. I saw recognition fill the latter's eyes as Alejandro questioned him. Their voices were low during the interaction but I assumed Alejandro was questioning him about the situation. The officer jerked a thumb towards a corridor and Alejandro nodded. He turned to me and signaled for me to wait. I pouted and slumped back into my seat. Alejandro made his way into the corridor.

Another round of agonizing minutes passed and I began to busy my eyes with the clock. It's so funny how interesting the ticking hands could be when you were waiting for something. After some more minutes, I left to my feet as Alejandro made his way out. To my relief and happiness, Kelly followed behind.

"Kelly!" I squealed as I rushed towards her. I caught her in a tight embrace.

"Easy, babe." She laughed as she patted my back. "Don't squish my boobs. They are my valuable assets, you know."

She said the last part in a whisper and I pulled away from her, shaking my head. It was always funny how she managed to make light of a serious situation. I examined her. Apart from her rumpled blouse, she didn't look out of sorts.

"Are you okay?" I asked her.

Alejandro had moved towards the counter and was discussing with the officer.

"Yeah," Kelly replied, flashing her signature defiant smile. "No cell in this world can tame this bad bitch."

I laughed as I swatted her arm. It may have been hours since I last saw her but I missed her uncouth mouth.

"So what happened?" I asked.

"Our boss bailed me out." She nodded towards Alejandro who was now walking towards us. I felt my heart warm in appreciation. His eyes landed on mine and I read the message behind them. I knew the main reason why he came to Kelly's rescue. He knew what she meant to me.

"Alright, let's head out," he said.

We found ourselves in his car minutes later as he drove along the road. It was a silent ride. I stared at the now dark sky, trying to count the tiny stars that shone and trying to decipher why the universe decided to be a jerk to me today. Even the usual talkative Kelly was silent at the back seat. I glanced back on occasion to observe her. She looked thoughtful as her eyes were focused on the window beside her. Her usual lively expression was gone at the moment. I wondered if she was just as upset as I was. If one saw her face for the first time, they wouldn't think she was a spitfire.

I glanced sideways at Alejandro. His eyes were focused on the road but I could see his jaw grind from time to time. His eyes were filled with anger and I could understand why. The anger was not directed at me or Kelly. It was directed at himself. His eyes glanced sideways for a moment and met mine. I managed a small smile and he sighed.

"I owe you ladies an apology." He finally broke the silence.

"Why, sir?" Kelly asked from the back.

"Because it was my fault," he replied, keeping his eyes at the road. "The woman who caused this mess was a parasite I should have gotten rid of for a long time. I didn't think she was going to get this possessive."

"Don't beat yourself too much about it, sir." Kelly flashed a grin. "I'm sure what I did to her was a reminder not to cross the line."

Alejandro's lips twitched and I knew he was struggling to contain a smile. It was so cute of him to try not to break character in front of anyone except me.

After we dropped Kelly at her house, Alejandro parked the car by my apartment and switched off the ignition. For a moment we said nothing as we listened to the crickets chirp around us.

"Crazy day," he said.

"I couldn't agree more," I laughed. He smiled as his eyes shifted to mine. My laughter died down and I felt the excitement leave me. I looked away and stared gloomily at the dashboard.

"What is wrong?" I felt his finger under my chin, tilting my face to look at him. His eyes were filled with concern.

"Thanks for what you did today," I said. "But I won't be lying if I say that's not enough. Natalie has proven to be more than an obsessive ex."

"She was never my girlfriend." Alejandro scowled.

"I know," I cut him off. "But she doesn't see it that way. Honestly Alejandro, you are an awesome guy and you've proven to be so, despite the way we met and despite that hard exterior you put on at work. I really care about you and I want to give this a try but I can't do so if crazy and obsessive women keep popping out of nowhere and giving me a reason to be paranoid and-"

My eyes widened as his lips crashed into mine, cutting off my ramblings. I gasped into his mouth and then my eyes closed as I returned his gesture. A moan rumbled down my throat as I felt his hand land on my thigh. It selt a tingle to my legs and I felt heat at my core. My legs spread a bit as his had roamed further up. My heartbeat tripled as I couldn't believe my dilemma.

I was making out with a billionaire and things were about to get x rated. I wouldn't mind if they did. It has been two months since I got some action last.

And just like that, it was over. Alejandro pulled away from me and my lips formed a huge pout of disappointment.

"Don't do that." He touched my lips with a slight chuckle. "It doesn't suit you."

"This is your fault." I folded my arms.

"I know," he replied. "And I'll make it up to you. After I sort out Natalie and we have the dinner, I will."

He leaned towards me and kissed my cheek. A pink hue appeared on my cheeks at the contact.

"You're lucky you're good looking." I stuck out my tongue at him. " Otherwise I would still be mad at you."

"I know." He winked.

I chuckled as I opened the door and stepped out.

"Goodnight, Alejandro," I said as he started the engine.

"Goodnight," he replied with a teasing smile. "Dream of me."

He zoomed off. I watched his car as it disappeared down the road with a looney smile on my face.

Oh, I definitely will dream of him.

And I hope it's not going to be innocent dreams.
