Chapter 31 The Nightmare

Chapter 31 The Nightmare
Seraphina's POV

“Don't hate your mom for not telling you the truth, not when she had moved on from this life long ago” Mam Carolina pours more whiskey in the glass for me. “When I first saw you, I was curious… even The Landlord felt it. Isabella’s striking resemblance, hair and everything…”

Wow, so that was why he was sniffing my hair that day? It was creepy though, and smell coming out of his body made it even creepier.

I listen as she continues to talk about what I already understand. She doesn't want to reveal much about my mom, just trying to justify why my mom didn't tell me anything about La Estancia and why I need to accept the eventualities that lead to my coming as providence.

Well, accepting my fate has become mandatory for me. I have no place to go to, and nobody is obviously coming to get me. Not even Damien.

I huff.

“Get some rest,” she orders, smiling.

I obey.

I head back to my room, reach out to the bunk to climb my bed when I lose control… thanks to the whiskey, and fall down. Surprisingly, my roommates are deep into sleep. None of them wakes up.

I try to raise up but I can't.

I feel as if something is placed on my body, something preventing me from moving.

When I can't fight the slumber associated with the overwhelming force pinning me down, I finally give in to sleep.

My vision goes dark as I lay motionless.

…

“I told you to stop acting like a child, Seraphina, you've grown up”

A woman says in my mom's voice. I can't see her face clearly, it's filled with brightness. Whenever I look up at her face, all I see is light.

“Mom?”

I want to know if she's the one.

“Mom, is this you?”

My question goes unanswered as she giggles and runs into a room. The whole house looks like our mansion in La Terra, and the room she enters is the guest's room where dad used to stash most of his cash.

“Mom, wait…”

I follow her to the room.

I am curious. I want to see her face.

Wasn't she dead?

When I enter the room, in a blink of an eye I can't find her anymore.

She was right there in front of me but suddenly the room was empty? How's the even possible? I wonder as I look around.

“Mom, where are you?”

I turn as I hear footsteps outside the room. I run out and find no one in the sitting room.

Then I hear footsteps climbing the stairs.

I run and finding her standing by the door of the room she shared with my dad. Her face is still invisible to me.

“Mom, I know it's you but aren't you dead? I saw Ricardo shoots you and you feel down…”

I don't complete my words when she hits the door open with her head.

My mom has nevet done that before. This is so weird. I don't know what's going on.

I run to the room where I find her sitting on the bed and holding a suit belonging to my dad.

Before I can say a word, she weeping gently while running the suit with her palm.

“You know why you are here?”

Her question makes me baffled.

I don't understand.
What does she mean by that?

“Mom, I… I…”

“You don't have to stutter my love, you are here to help me find him” she apprises.

Him who?
My dad?

I am speechless,
I don't understand!

“I can't find him, he promised to be with me wherever I go to or find myself in, but he's not here!” she yells as she stops rubbing the suit.

I tremble.

My mom didn't used to yell at me. She loved me so much. I don't understand why she's doing that now.

The brightness on her face suddenly fades. I am shocked to see her face... stained by blood.

The face looks like that of a living corpse.

I try to hold my fear, my emotions as I place my hand on my mouth and weep gently.

"My love," she smiles, "I don't mean to hurt you. BUT YOU HAVE TO FIND YOUR DAD!" she races towards me, screaming.

"Ahh!" I wake up, panting.

It's just a dream. A bad one.

My breath isn't steady.

None of my roommate is awake, still. But now, I have the strength to climb the bunk to my bed at the top.

But I can't sleep, not when I can still recall what I saw in the nightmare I had... vividly.

I don't understand the message behind it. Mom's finding dad? I just don't get it.

Ricardo murdered her in my presence, and when Dante and I escaped to the car I heard gunshots which probably was meant for my dad's head. I left him outmatched.

So now, I think they are both dead.

If she can't find him up there, where then is here? Maybe his soul is somewhere here world haunting Ricardo and his men for what they did.

I say my prayer for their souls to rest in peace before laying on the bed.

I sleep soundly this time.

No nightmares.

In the morning, Mam Carolina announces some of us will be sponsored by La Estancia to La Terra for a special event, sponsored by one of the richest drug lords.

La Terra?

Richest drug lords?

I am shocked.

That has to be Ricardo,
and I am not going... even though while she announces it, her eyes were on me with a befitting smile.

No, I can't go to La Terra!
