Chapter 69
Chapter 69
Catalina turned her gaze to Caroline as soon as Damien and Emily sat down at the table reserved for them. The girl looked at her mother with annoyance.
“Look. Because of you, I can’t sit near them,” she said, then turned to her father.
“I don’t understand how you can’t resolve things with Victoria.” Catalina shook her head, finding it strange that Charles still hadn’t managed to win Victoria’s favor. That man should hold the most important place in Victoria’s life. Even more important than Damien’s status as the husband of her eldest daughter.
“Come on, Brian. Let’s sit somewhere else.” Catalina pulled Brian toward a table not far from Victoria and Damien’s. They had to be careful of their movements. Catalina didn’t want her parents to find out about her plan.
“I didn’t know Catalina was this rude.” Charles’s remark startled Caroline. It would be dangerous if Charles found out what Catalina was really like. He knew nothing of what was happening because he was too busy with work. He mustn’t find out about Catalina’s bad behavior all this time. Who knows what Charles would do if he learned Catalina was desperately trying to win over her sister’s husband, Victoria.
“We should sit down, Charles.” Caroline pulled her husband toward the table that had been set for them. She hoped he would forget about Catalina’s behavior.
“Why do you look so sullen??” Damien said after glancing at Emily, then shifting his gaze to the host on stage.
“Smile. A lot of people are watching you because this is your first appearance since you recovered.” Emily sighed at the man’s words.
“I don’t like seeing Catalina. Suddenly, her presence makes me annoyed. Can’t you get rid of her?” Emily stared at Damien. She disliked Catalina because she could see through the girl’s insincerity. Only a blind person couldn’t see how fake Catalina was. Emily couldn’t stand being in the same room with that girl for long.
“She’s family,” Damien said again, then gave a sly smile.
“Victoria’s favorite, too. People would definitely wonder why she didn’t come to this event.” Damien took Emily’s left hand, which was resting on the table. The girl looked at Damien, then at her hand, which he was holding. Of course. How could she have forgotten? Being out of Victoria’s family’s sight didn’t mean they were safe. On the contrary, they had to act like a loving couple because they were surrounded by people who knew the heir to this company.
“Good evening, sir, ma’am,” the waiter greeted them, then placed white wine in front of Emily and Damien.
Emily reached for the wine glass. Catalina, who saw this, smiled. She had paid the waiter a lot of money to serve wine laced with sleeping pills.
“Just a little more, Brian,” Catalina said enthusiastically.
“Victoria will be yours very soon.” A wicked smile spread across Catalina’s face.
“I’ll take Victoria out of here as soon as she drinks it.” Catalina’s words made Brian’s heart race. He had once considered possessing Victoria through such dirty schemes, but he had abandoned the idea. Brian truly loved Victoria; he didn’t want to possess her through such cowardly acts. Yet, he couldn’t resist the temptation to have Victoria when Catalina offered him a deal. Being nice to Victoria hadn’t gotten him anywhere. Instead, he’d been separated from the woman he loved. Not only that, but Victoria didn’t even remember him. So, from now on, Brian would do anything to take Victoria away from Damien.
“Ah, damn.” Brian looked ahead as he heard Catalina curse.
“Why did you take my wine?” Emily asked Damien, confused.
“You’re not allowed to drink alcohol,” Damien replied flatly, making Emily flustered.
“This is a party, Damien. Don’t you think people will find it strange if I don’t drink anything?” Damien ignored Emily’s question, causing the girl to sigh.
“I want to drink wine. ” Damien ignored Emily’s words. He looked at Austin, who was sitting next to him.
“Please bring Emily some water,” the girl widened her eyes as she watched Damien reach for the wine in front of him.
“You get to drink wine and I don’t?” Emily grabbed Damien’s hand and glared at him. How convenient for him. He got to enjoy wine while she had to drink water.
“Remember your condition. Damien’s reply made the girl sigh.
“You don’t seem to remember what we’re doing right now. I’m playing the role of Victoria, your wife,” Emily said emphatically.
“I remember. I also have another reason for stopping you from drinking alcohol, darling.” Damien said, flashing his ‘sweet’ smile.
“You have to take care of your health.” Emily’s mouth dropped open at the man’s excuse. It was completely unbelievable. Emily couldn’t accept it.
“Oh, I could say the same thing to you,” Emily said with a forced sweet voice and smile.
“I’m worried about your health too, darling.” The girl stroked Damien’s arm. She brought her face close to Damien’s.
