Chapter 64
Chapter 64
They avoided each other since the kiss. Damien left for work earlier and came home later than usual. It wasn't much different from when Emily first arrived. However, Emily felt something was missing whenever she didn't see his face. Like it or not, Emily had to admit that she needed to see Damien's face, even if only for a moment, to cure her longing. Just like she was doing now. She stood in the foyer waiting for him. She determined to do that so that her feeling of longing would disappear.
Emily paced back and forth. She would see Damien's face as soon as the elevator doors opened, but there was no sign of any movement. Emily had been doing that for some minutes. Damien's return time was irregular. He used to come home before dinner, sometimes after dinner. It was already very late. Did Damien go somewhere? However, Austin didn't tell her if Damien had work outside the city or abroad. Where did he go? She just needed to see his face for a moment, a few seconds, not even a minute, and then she would go to sleep.
Unable to bear the curiosity of Damien's late return, Emily contacted his assistant. Austin must know where Damien went. He knew everything about Damien.
“Hello, Emily.”
“Hi, Austin. Do you know where Damien is? Is he still at the office? Why hasn't Damien come home yet?” Austin, who was with Emily's manager, looked at Anna's with confused expression, which was met with a questioning look. Anna wanted to know what Emily was asking.
“I'm done for the day. Damien is too. What's going on?” Hearing Austin's answer made Emily confused. If Damien was off work, why hadn't he shown up yet? Had she missed something? Maybe Damien was already home, but she didn't know. Emily walked to his bedroom and opened the door, but Damien wasn't there. The dark room made Emily disappointed.
“Damien isn't home yet. I want to ask him something,” Emily said, making up an excuse so Austin wouldn't think anything strange.
“Maybe he went to his home.” Austin's answer made Emily feel something in her heart. It wasn't a feeling Emily liked.
“Okay. I'll ask him later when I see him. See you, Austin.” Emily ended her call with Austin. Of course Damien would go to his 'home'. It was Damien's home with his wife, Victoria. Emily walked slowly to her room. What Austin said reminded Emily of her situation over the past three months. There was no relationship between them. Emily couldn't allow herself to be happy just because she lived with Damien. What was happening now was right. It was better for them to meet when she was acting as Victoria.
“See you later, Mrs. Victoria.” Michael waved to Emily and ran toward his father.
“Have fun, Michael. See you on Monday.”
Emily sighed and walked toward the car guarded by bodyguards. She still felt strange being accompanied by three muscular men, even though they had been guarding her for quite some time.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Miller.” Emily still wasn't used to being called Mrs. Miller. She just smiled in response to her bodyguard's greeting. Emily was about to get into the car, but someone called out to her.
“Victoria,” Emily saw Catalina running towards her. Emily's eyes widened, quite surprised by the girl's appearance. What the hell? First Brian, now Catalina. What did those two siblings want? Especially Catalina. Emily didn't understand why she had come to see her. Emily had been unfriendly toward Catalina ever since she found out that Catalina's mother was Victoria's father's mistress. Catalina had no right to come see her.
“I've wanted to see you for a long time, but I was worried you wouldn't want to meet me,” Catalina said after seeing the burly men standing around Victoria like a shield.
Emily slammed the car door to dramatize her response. She stared at Catalina sharply as if the girl was the last person she wanted to see in the world.
“What do you want?” Emily said curtly.
“You really have no respect for yourself. Doesn’t my attitude at home show that I don’t want anything to do with you?” Catalina widened her eyes at Victoria’s sudden change in personality. Her firm words made Catalina hesitate to carry out her plan. Where was the gentle Victoria? She tought.
“But you didn’t refuse to meet Brian.” Catalina spoke very softly, afraid that Victoria would become even more unfriendly towards her.
“He’s different,” Emily glared sharply at Victoria’s step-sister.
“Brian didn't try to cover up your mother's lies,” Catalina felt cold sweat starting to appear on her forehead. Victoria was so perceptive that she remembered Catalina's words.
“That means you knew from the beginning what the relationship between my father and your mother was like, but you chose to lie to me,” Emily stared hard at Catalina. Whatever the girl was planning, Catalina would not succeed in carrying it out.
“You love me so much?” Emily smiled dismissively.
“Nonsense.”
“I said that because—”
“Ma'am, Mr. Miller wants to talk to you.” Emily's bodyguard interrupted Catalina and handed his phone to Emily. She gave Catalina a sharp look before walking away to answer Damien's call.
“Hello, Damien,”
