Chapter 59
“Will you be my girlfriend?” Anna’s eyes glazed over, she couldn’t move her lips because it felt unreal.
“You won’t answer me?” A pleading look from Austin left the girl not knowing what to do.
“Don’t you like me?” Anna shook her head violently.
“This isn’t a dream, is it?” she asked, her voice shaking.
“Why don’t you prove it for yourself?” Anna threw herself into Austin’s arms. This was no dream. She hugged Austin tightly.
“Why don’t you prove it in a more convincing way?” Austin lowered his head and kissed Anna’s lips. He gently sucked on her lips. The sweet kiss from Austin made Anna close her eyes. This was so real. Austin really liked her. The man was happy when Anna kissed him back. He had no intention of expressing his feelings now, but what else could he do? Austin didn’t want Anna to have a bad thought.
“So what’s your answer?” Austin asked as soon as he released his lips.
“I like you too,” Anna replied with a blush in her cheeks.
“So?” There had to be a connection after those words.
“Of course I want to be...”
“Anna!” The call stopped Anna in her tracks. Austin and Anna looked at the car.
“Let’s have another drink! Please bring more beer for us!” Under the light of the streetlamp, they could see Emily raising her hand as if holding a glass. They both laughed at Emily’s behavior.
“Actually, it was Emily who asked for a drink,” Anna said after her laughter subsided.
“Was it really to celebrate the one-month anniversary of Emily’s contract with Damien?” Anna shook her head.
“Emily was feeling lonely.”
“Lonely?” Austin asked, confused.
“She lost her chat buddy at the penthouse.” Anna’s words confused Austin even more. Did she mean Damien? He was on a business trip overseas for a week. Was Emily feeling lonely because of Damien?
“Samuel, the handsome chef, no longer works there.”
“What did you say?” asked Austin. There was disgust there, but Anna misinterpreted it because Austin did not hear her words clearly.
“That chef doesn’t work at Damien’s penthouse anymore.” Austin closed his eyes for a moment.
“You said Samuel was handsome?” Austin’s voice was incredulous. Anna had just said she liked him, and now she was saying another guy was handsome?
“Yes. You must have met him too, right?” Met Samuel? Of course. He was the one who was looking for a cook for Damien’s penthouse. Hearing the woman he liked say another man was handsome really hurt Austin’s ego.
“So who’s more handsome? Me or Samuel?” Austin asked seriously.
“My type is Samuel,” Austin removed his arm from around Anna’s waist as soon as he heard her answer.
“No wonder you didn’t answer my confession right away. It turns out you admire another man.” Anna couldn’t help but smile at Austin’s reaction. She hadn’t expected such a reaction. Knowing that Austin could be jealous, too, gave Anna a feeling of excitement. She walked over to Austin and hugged him.
“Samuel is handsome, but you are more handsome.” Austin’s annoyance melted away a little.
“Really?” Anna nodded.
“I want to be your girlfriend.” Anna smiled at him.
“Thank you, Anna.” The man tightened his embrace, but not so tight that Anna felt breathless.
“You’ve just made me the happiest man in the world.” The two newly united people dissolved into their flowery mood. As many people say, the world seems to belong to them when they’re in love.
“Anna, refill my glass!”
“That’s my sign to go,” Anna nodded.
“I’ll call you,” Austin said, and she nodded again.
“Come in. I’ll leave after you enter the building.” Anna stared at Austin for a long time. She didn’t want to part with him if she could.
“Bye.” Austin nodded with a sweet smile at his girlfriend. The man returned to the car after seeing Anna enter the apartment building. Austin looked to the side and saw a sleeping Emily.
“It’s a good thing Damien isn’t home yet, Emily. Otherwise, you would have been scolded.” The man shook his head. Hopefully, Emily won’t make a habit of drinking during her stay with Damien. The man could not tolerate a drunken woman.

Damien felt empty as soon as he arrived at the penthouse. The man dragged his suitcase deeper inside, he walked to his room. Perhaps he felt lonely because the servants only worked until the afternoon. The man went to the bathroom to clean up. His work ended early, so he could go home early. From now on, he had to try not to see Emily again. He managed to do that before he left for overseas. Damien hoped he could do it again. The man combed his hair. It was hard not to think about Emily. He even did a bad thing while on a business trip, asking for all the photos of Emily that the Lime Agency had.
Damien couldn’t help but miss Emily when they were away. But after being close to Emily, Damien was sure he could control himself. His feelings had to be kept in check. At least until there was certainty about Victoria’s condition. His wife showed no signs of waking up. At one point, he asked Doctor James to remove all the medical equipment from Victoria’s body, but the doctor refused.
After Victoria briefly opened her eyes, the doctor said that Victoria could wake up at any time. The chances were high, although the doctor couldn’t give an exact time. If Victoria died, he could definitely have been close to Emily. That bad thought came before he asked the doctor to perform the medical device removal procedure on Victoria. Only once. Now Damien pushed those thoughts away. He let God work on Victoria’s condition. Whether Victoria was awake or in a coma, Damien still had to keep his distance from Emily. Even though their marriage was not based on love, Damien still had to protect Victoria’s feelings as a wife.
