After Vivian had dropped Judy at the hospital, she smiled and wiped the fake tears from her eyes.

Natalie laughed, “It is all about passion. I did not have it easy when I started my medical career. Sometimes, I would just think of quitting, but after every successful surgery, everything became worth it.”
During the time when they were not so busy, Natalie held lessons about medicine and surgery. The director had given her a go-ahead to pass her knowledge to others.
At first, Natalie thought that she would not be able to do it since she was not really into teaching. But the moment she started, she actually realized that it was easy. Every time she saw people applying the things they had learned from her, it gave her joy and fulfillment.
Now, she somehow understood why her mother had been so passionate about her teaching job.
Seeing that it was still early, Natalie decided to head to the market and buy some food. Sean had been so busy with work lately, and he hadn’t had time to make them anything delicious. Today, Natalie wanted to make something delicious for her family.
But just as she was about to leave the hospital, she received a call from the officer who was in charge of her mother’s case. She needed to urgently head to the police station because the investigating team found new evidence.
“Karl, what is the matter? You haven’t reached out to us for a few days now, and I was just about to call and ask if everything is okay.” Natalie said the moment she reached the police station.
“Mrs. Cole, everything is okay. It has taken a while, but I have finally been able to retrieve your mother’s forensic report. I just wanted to ask you a few questions regarding your mother’s case.”
Natalie became tense. Her mother’s forensic report would reveal the exact cause of death, and Natalie was not sure if she was ready for the news.
“What does the report say?”
Karl did not give her a direct answer as he asked a question of his own. “Mrs. Cole, was your mother fond of taking sleeping pills?”
Natalie shook her head without hesitation, “Not really. My mother had maintained a healthy lifestyle, and I never saw her take any sleeping pills.”
“Hmm.” Karl gave a silent grunt.
He looked at the forensic report and spoke, “Given the information from the forensic report, a large amount of sleeping pills was found in your mother’s system. There were also some rough impacts around your mother’s neck, probably due to strangulation.”
“What? What are you even saying?” Natalie asked, her heart beating louder.
“The forensic officer concluded that your mom was strangled and then someone forced sleeping pills down her throat, maybe to make it look like she died from an overdose. Seeing that they might be easily caught, they staged the accident.”
Natalie’s face lost its color. She was a medical student, so she understood just how painful it was for a life to be forcefully taken. Just what kind of pain had her mother endured? And who did this to her?
Seeing that she was not saying anything, Karl called her out.
“Mrs. Cole, are you okay?”
Natalie came back to her senses. She fought the tears that were about to fall from her eyes and spoke, “I am okay. I just need a moment. Could you please show where the washrooms are?”
Karl nodded and ordered a female officer to accompany Natalie to the washroom. The moment she left, Karl called Sean and told him to head to the police station ASAP.
The moment Natalie reached the washroom, she held the sink with all her might and gave out a painful moan.
She could no longer control the tears that were falling from her eyes, and she let them fall freely.

She looked at herself in the mirror and sobbed, “Mom, I failed you so much. Why didn’t you tell me that Dad brought another woman home? Why didn’t you just leave when you still had the chance? But it was my fault. I should have been more observant, and I should have visited you more often.”
Natalie cried. After what seemed like forever, she wiped the tears from her face and splashed cold water on herself. Her gaze was resolute as she spoke through the mirror, “Mom, I was not there for you when you needed me the most, but I am going to make sure that you get the justice that you deserve. When she returned from the washroom, she was stunned to see Sean in the questioning room.

Sean went over and hugged her. How could he not tell that his wife had been crying?
His heart broke, and he felt like burning the whole world to the ground.
“Honey, Karl has briefed me on everything. Don’t worry, even if it costs me my life, I will make sure that Mom gets the justice she deserves. I will make sure that everyone involved gets punished.”
