Chapter 61 chapter 61
Chapter 61
“Natalie, I am sorry that you had to find out that way. I was just so stunned that day that I did not know what to say.”
Natalie looked at the man she had called "dad" for over twenty years—the man she had almost worshipped and felt nothing but disgust.
Looking at him now, she actually realized that she did not know much about him. Remembering the agony her mom had gone through after finding out the truth of his betrayal, she lost her appetite.
Pushing away the plate of her favorite seafood, she looked at her father and asked, “Dad, how did my mom die?”
Tyron’s heart trembled. He could not look Natalie in the eye, so he averted his gaze. After opening and closing his mouth for almost half a day, he finally responded, “I already told you, it was an accident.”
Natalie looked at him, and her gaze turned cold. “Dr. Hart, I will ask you one more time. How did your wife die? Was it really an accident, or was she murdered, but it was made to look like an accident?”
Tyron lost his temper after hearing the way Natalie addressed him.
“Natalie, where are your manners? I am your father. Is that how you are supposed to address me? Don’t you have any shame?”
Natalie was not afraid. She looked at her father and sneered, “Do you even have the right to be called a father? You wouldn’t have done what you did in the past if you did not want this day to come.”
“It was all a mistake. Everything happened in the spur of a moment, and I never thought that it would come to this.”
“Another question, have you ever loved my mom?”
Tyron nodded without hesitation, “Of course, I loved your mom. Why else would I have married her if I did not love her?”
“Are you sure about that? Because, from the look of things, you never loved your late wife. Maybe you loved your mistress more.”
Tyron slapped the table hard. He could no longer withstand the insults, “Natalie, you are going too far. You can question me about anything, except the love I had for your mother. You know that I loved your mother more than life itself.”
“But you watched her die, and you made sure that she would never get justice, and with that, she would never rest in peace. You claim to have loved my mother, but what is a stranger doing in her matrimonial home, sleeping in her matrimonial bed? Is your love so cheap, Dr. Hart?”
“I…” Tyron had nothing to say in his defense. He only opened and closed his mouth without a word coming out of his damn mouth.
Natalie wiped her mouth and looked at her father one last time. All the good feelings she had about this man vanished into thin air.
“Dad, since it has come to this, then I would just be honest with you. I am going to make sure that my mom’s case is solved to my satisfaction, and I am going to see to it that anyone who was involved in her death would be dealt with accordingly.”
“Justice might have been delayed, but I am going to make sure that it is served. No one is going to escape the hand of the law.”
“Natalie, listen…” Tyron tried to say something, but Natalie had already left.
He slumped in his chair as all the energy left his body. What was he supposed to do now? If Natalie became stubborn and decided to uncover the truth, then he would never be able to live. He was already feeling so guilty that he had no idea how to face Clara, his late wife.”
…
“How did it go with your dad?” Sean asked. He had not followed Natalie along because he did not want to complicate things for her.
Natalie hugged Sean tightly as she let go of her insecurities. She could only be herself in this man’s arms.
“I can’t believe that I once worshipped that man. I must have been a blind fool.”
“It is okay, honey. Sometimes, the people we look up to are the ones who hurt the most. But don’t worry, no matter what happens, your mom is going to get the justice that she deserves.”
“I am not going to spare anyone. I want everyone involved to face the full wrath of the law.” Natalie said. She was done playing nice, and anyone involved in her mother’s death would pay the price.
…
At the Hart family mansion…
Tyron had called everyone, including Jason.
“Dad, why did you call us here all of a sudden? I was to have a candlelit dinner with Jason today.”
Tryon did not beat around the bush: “I met with Natalie today.”
“And what does that have anything to do with us?” Sophia shrugged her shoulders and asked.
“She wanted to know how Mom died,” Tryon said with a heavy heart.
“What?” Vivian reacted. “Hope you did not tell her anything.”
Tyron looked at her and sneered, “If I had said anything, do you really think that we would be having this conversation?”
“Dad, what are we supposed to do now?” Vivian asked.
Tyron sighed. He knew just how stubborn he could be. Once she made up her mind, no one and nothing would be able to stop her.
“Natalie is adamant about finding the truth behind Clara’s death. Jason, how safe are we? You had said that the officer had destroyed all the evidence. Are you sure?”
“Yes, uncle.” Jason nodded. He thought for a moment before he proceeded, “The last time he spoke to me, he said that he would even get those saved in the police database to be destroyed. So, I think that no matter how hard Natalie digs, she would never be able to find anything. Besides, Captain Noah said that he would never let that case be reopened, no matter what.”
Sophia and Vivian sighed in relief, but Tyron was still worried. The confidence in Natalie’s eyes could not have been for nothing. Or was she just trying to scare him?
“But we can’t relax just yet. I would suggest that Sophia and Vivian go abroad for a while until we are completely sure that Natalie will never be able to find anything.”
Sophia and Vivian protested right away, “Dad, what are you saying? How could I leave my family behind to go and hide abroad? This is not right.”
“This is the only way to keep you safe,” Tyron said.
Sophia held his hand and said, “Honey, you have nothing to worry about. Jason already promised us from the start that he would never let anything happen to us. So, you should relax and have some faith in your son-in-law.”
