Chapter 56 chapter 56
Chapter 56
Jason did not know how or when he fell asleep, but the ringing of his phone jolted him awake.
Looking at the watch, he was stunned that it was already morning of the next day.
There were several missed calls, and the majority were from Vivian.
Jason combed through his hair with his fingers, and his mind started to clear. He seemed to have drunk too much the previous night, and he unknowingly fell asleep.
Jason was about to head to the bathroom when his phone rang again. Seeing that it was his assistant calling, he quickly answered.
“Leon, what is the matter?”
“Boss, where are you? I have been trying to reach you, but you weren’t answering your calls.”
“Yeah, what’s up?”
“We have lost two of our major clients, and our stock market price is dropping. If this goes on, then we might go bankrupt.”
Jason immediately sobered up after hearing that. “What did you just say?”
“Sir, someone is deliberately targeting us. I have tried to look into but I haven’t been able to find anything.”
Jason was the richest man in Sterling City, or so he thought. For the past years, he had been running this city like its godfather. His name brought tremors to anyone who heard it.
But recently, things did not seem to go well for him. His old business partners were bailing out on him, and all of them gave out very weird reasons that did not even make sense to him.
“Boss, the board members are requesting an emergency meeting. The chairman, your father, has also been requested to attend.”
Jason closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. Ever since he ended his marriage with Natalie, the relationship between him and his father had not been great.
If his father started to get involved with the family business again, did that mean that he was about to lose his inheritance?
Jason felt his head throb just by thinking about it.
“Leon, prepare everything. I will come right away.”
“Okay, boss.”
At the Thompson Group…
The shareholders and the directors were enraged.
“What has gotten into Jason lately? Has he offended someone he shouldn’t have?”
“Our company has been losing a lot in the past few days. I am afraid that if this goes on, then we might really go bankrupt.”
“The Thompson Group has been doing well for the past few years, but ever since we lost that large shipment, things started to go south. I wonder the kind of bigshot that Jason had offended.”
“Guys, we have invested so much in this company, so we can’t just sit still and watch as we lose everything. Jason needs to give us a proper explanation, or we will not let him go. He can as well step down as the CEO, and we can look for someone more competent.”
“You are right. His wife is way too arrogant. During the Boardroom Beast gala, she caused a scene, causing Jason to be thrown out even before dinner ended. While companies were reaping off from the ten-billion-dollar investment, we were turned into memes and an internet laughing stock.”
“We have had enough, and this ends today!”
Leo arrived at the company before Jason did. The air in the company felt stiff, and things were not looking good.
“What is going on here?” Leo asked the moment he entered the conference room.
When the people saw him, they stood up and bowed in respect. Although he handed his son everything and he rarely showed up at the company, everyone still respected him as the chairman of Thompson Group.
Together with his late father, they had single-handedly built the company from scratch, and he had earned the respect of his employees.
“Chairman Thompson, welcome.”
“Chairman, it has been a while. Sorry for disturbing you, but we had no choice but to call you over.”
Although Leo had been out of business for years, he was still as sharp and domineering as ever.
The moment he entered the conference room, all the hushed voices stopped.
Leo looked around, and after a while, he frowned. He went to the main seat and asked, “Where is your boss?”
The board members looked at each other before shaking their heads, “He is yet to come, sir.”
Leo’s frown deepened. The company was almost ruined, and Jason was still messing around? Just what the hell did he want?
He hadn’t returned home the previous day, and he was yet to report to the company. Just what the hell was he doing? Did he want to see the Thompson group destroyed?
“Let us begin the meeting. What the hell is happening?” Leo asked. His voice was cold, and no one dared speak out of turn.
One of the board of directors who had worked with him before he handed the company to Jason stood up and explained everything.
When he was done, Leo’s expression had turned as dark as the bottom of the pot. He could not believe that a lot had been going on while he had been kept in the dark.
Leon looked at him, and his expression changed. Things were going really badly, and if Jason did not show up in the next five minutes, then…
…
In the CEO’s office, after the board meeting…
“Jason, I handed over the family business to you because I knew that you would do a good job at managing it. But what is this?”
Jason lowered his head. He knew that he was in the wrong, so he did not dare talk back.
“Dad, I have no idea who I have offended. Everyone bailing out on us isn’t giving any valid reason, and at this point, I honestly don’t know what else to do.”
“And why do you think this is the work of your enemies? Maybe people are just starting to see how incompetent you are.”
“Dad…”
“Just shut up! I am so pissed off right now. Do you want all my hard work to go to waste like that? How else am I supposed to face your grandfather, the person who gave his soul and body to this company?”
“Dad, just give me some time, and I am going to fix this!”
“And how are you going to do that?”
