Chapter 17 chapter 17
Chapter 17
Even after they had landed in Sterling City, Natalie was still in disbelief. How did Sean end up on that flight? She thought that she had left him in Star City.
Sean knew all the thoughts that were running through Natalie’s mind. He chuckled as he joked, “You know, I used to practice magic when I was young.”
Hearing that, Jojo popped her small head and asked cheekily, “Daddy, what is magic?”
Sean did not know how to explain to Jojo since he was just teasing Natalie. But seeing how Jojo was looking at him with such curiosity, he could not let her down. He thought of a random excuse and said, “Magic is when something you did not expect happens. Like how I appeared inside the plane without your mom knowing.”
“Oh, so you used magic?”
“Yes. Your mom left me in Star City, so when she saw me inside the plane, she must have thought that I was a magician.”
Although Natalie was pleasantly surprised, she did not know why her heart felt excited and happy after seeing Sean.
Could it be…
No, she did not dare think in that direction.
The ride from the airport was filled with Jojo’s childish voice asking all sorts of questions, and Sean answering all of them with great patience, that Natalie forgot to give the driver her house address.
When the car stopped, she realized that they were at a famous five-star hotel. She wanted to tell the driver to turn around, but Sean stopped her.
“Don’t worry. I brought you here so you could have dinner first. I know that you will be busy unpacking when you reach home, and you won’t have time to eat.”
Natalie looked at Sean, feeling emotionally conflicted. Just how much did this man understand her? A small gesture from her, and he already knew what she was thinking.
Even Jason did not have such a deep understanding of her, and they had been friends since childhood.
Jason…
Natalie was stunned when she thought of that name. Because for the past five years, that name had rarely crossed her mind.
Was it because she was back in Sterling City and her past couldn’t wait to catch up to her?
Sean had already made a reservation, so when the family of three entered the hotel, they were led to a private room.
“Bluemoon Hotel!” Natalie read the name of the hotel.
Sean looked at her and asked, “Do you like it?”
She nodded, “Yeah, it is very fancy, but I have never heard of it before. I think it must have been built in the years I have been away.”
Sean looked at her, but he did not say anything. He wondered how Natalie would react if she knew that he had built this hotel just for her.
He was glad that no one knew that he was the owner, or else Natalie would have asked so many questions.
When the time was right, he would tell her about his other identity.
The food was soon served, and it was delicious. Natalie had a heavy breakfast in the morning, so she hadn’t eaten anything for the rest of the day.
Although they were offered food on the plane, she was not used to eating while traveling.
The moment the tantalizing aroma hit her nostrils, her stomach growled.
Sean and Jojo were already used to it, so they were not really surprised. Sean scooped some soup and passed it to Natalie, “Drink this to warm up your stomach before you have something heavy.”
Natalie took it, scooped a little using the spoon, and drank it. Although it was not as great as the one Sean had prepared in the morning, it still tasted delicious.
She felt her stomach warm up the moment the soup reached her intestines, and the warmth spread all the way to her heart.
She never noticed before, but every time they ate out, Sean would meticulously take care of her. He would keep serving her food until he forgot about himself.
Now that she thought about it, Natalie seemed to have taken their relationship for granted. She had never once served Sean anything.
She did not know why she suddenly felt guilty. She must have been a very bad friend.
Natalie touched her nose as she tried to hide her guilt. After Sean was done placing food on Jojo’s plate, Natalie took a small bowl and put some soup in it. She passed it to Sean, as she said, “Drink this up, it tastes great, but not as good as yours, obviously. Don’t just focus all your attention on us. You need to eat too.”
Sean was stunned, and he actually thought that he was dreaming. This was the first time Natalie was serving him food, and his heart welled up with happiness.
It was not like he expected Natalie to serve him, but this, given that they now shared a different relationship, Sean felt as if he had just won the biggest lottery.
Seeing his stupid grin, Natalie did not know what was going on in the man’s head. Why did he look so happy, as if she just handed him gold?
After he took the soup from Natalie, he took a sip and nodded, “It is very delicious, thank you, love.”
Natalie felt her heart skip a beat when Sean called her love, and her face blushed.
She did not dare look him in the eyes as she explained, “I just wanted you to have something since all your attention is on us.”
Sean shook his head, “It is my responsibility to make sure that you guys are full, so don’t worry.”
The dinner went well as usual, and they soon left in the car that carried them from the airport.
Although it posed as a taxi, it was Sean’s car. He felt like it was too early to tell Natalie everything.
Natalie had bought a mansion in a secure neighborhood. Although she wanted to go to her family home so badly, she had many reasons not to. Now was not the time to pay some people a visit.
“Thank you for bringing us home, Sean,” Natalie said after Sean carried the last suitcase to the house.
Sean ruffled her hair, his fingers brushing past her neck briefly, “Get some rest. I will see you tomorrow.”
“What? Aren’t you staying over? We have so many spare rooms, and you are new to Sterling City.”
“I don’t think that is a good idea, love. Don’t worry, I have already made arrangements, and I booked a presidential suite at Bluemoon Hotel. I will be staying there for the time being.”
Natalie did not insist and bid the man goodbye.
Sean was about to step outside the door when he remembered something. He turned around and saw that Natalie was still waving at him.
He smiled lightly, walked over, and pulled Natalie into his arms. Before Natalie could react, she felt a soft touch on her forehead.
The same tender kiss that Sean gave her yesterday.
He let go almost immediately and said with a gentle smile, “I love you, Nat.”
